Overdue: adj.
1) Being unpaid when due: an overdue bill.
2) Coming or arriving after the scheduled or expected time: an overdue train.
3)
a. Expected or required but not yet having come about.
b. Being something that should have occurred earlier. See synonyms at tardy

... Just in case you were wondering.

Hello again to you all; it's (slightly past) time to celebrate the best and worst that we've seen from the past year. This year, as previously mentioned, saw a marked decrease in balloting; but writer's strike/lazy MOTLers or not, the show must go on, and so it will!
If my multiple allusions to the fact already haven't alerted you; these awards are, in fact, late by a couple of weeks, mostly due to me trying to find a job, getting my applications out to schools for September, generally having a life, etc. and if you cared about these things I'm sure you'd have asked so I'll just shut up and apologize for the delay.
This year's presentation will see a couple of changes; first, the percentages will not be revealed for reasons that I assure you are legitimate but that I don't feel like stating. Also, the presentation will probably seem a little shorter, and that's most likely because it is -- with less ballots comes less names, there aren't as many numerical facts, and also close margins that don't allow for clear runner-ups in many categories.
That said, there is still a list of nominees, or those who received any votes at all in the category. They'll be listed in ascending order, from the lowest vote-getters to the highest. There will be a number of runner-ups roughly proportional to the number of names who got enough votes to be deemed a serious contender in each category. And, of course, there are the winners.

So, enough gab from me; let's get presenting!

The Mimi Bobeck Award
This award is designed for MOTL's biggest forum troll, and I don't think I can introduce this properly without making reference to the fact that Pyro has just returned to the scene, so this year's winner had better beware!
The nominees in this category were stu55, MeddlingMage & Matt Conroy.
In the runner up position for this award is skizzikmonger.
your winner for teh mimi bobeck awrd this year is Ml490! ths is his 2ond time around, and even if he havent been trolling as much lately, that motl still thinks he rains supreme!
Sorry Mark. Think of it as flavor text; I had to say SOMETHING to make it interesting.

The Real Estate Award
This award belongs to the poster (all logic dictates mod/admin, but hey, I'm open-minded) who does the most closing of posts around the boards, and swinging the banhammer when necessary.
(Or unswinging it apparently -- seriously, Pyro & Trotters are back? Okay, I'll shut up about it for now)
The lone nominee in this category was BoltBait.
In the runner up position for this award, the loser from a very close race was Tha Gunslinga.
And, that leaves room for nderdog, who once again has frightened many a poster this year with the green title under his name. Thanks & congratulations!

The WEOAMP Award
This award is for the member who has been, or is most likely to be on the wrong end of a massive pwnage. I should note that, with respect to the naming competition, most respondents indicated that they thought this award name was fine the way it was, and who am I to mess with a good thing?
I'm just going to say right now that, with the exception of a single vote (Selvaxri = nominee, btw), this entire category frequently deposited only a single name on my ballot: scrum. I think I can honestly just quote this as my commentary here:

quote:
Originally posted by scrum:
I ordered a box of stronghold online, and I opened the packs and there were no rares or foils in it. It was sealed with wizards shrinkwrap so I know that no one tampered with it, but I'm just really ****ed that all 36 packs didn't have rares.

*Insert multiple explanations here*

... Okay, I'm lying about that being my only commentary. Would anyone else like to see this called The Stronghold Award in memory of this landslide?

The Proton Award
I need some more C12H22O11 if I'm going to get through typing these awards in one sitting...
And if you got that joke, you probably think that this award is aptly named, as it belongs to the the member most responsible for his/her positive input to the boards.
The nominees in this category were daner, Jazaray & orcishartillery.
Snagging a runner up position here was GottaLoveElves. And rightly so, how many of you other MOTLers have something as positive love somewhere in your name? Huh?
However, I was no match for the resident winner of this category, BoltBait! Thanks once again for all you do.

The Big Bird Award
This award belongs to the MOTLer with the biggest-- I mean the yellowest feath-- uh, I mean the friendliest MOTLer. Yeah, that's the guy.
The nominees in this category were Valmtg, super324, CPTBOBIX, BoltBait, GottaLoveElves and Jazaray.
It's a bird! It's a plane! No wait, it's just a really big bird -- ronandaggy to be exact, the winner of The Big Bird Award this year! Great job guy(s)!

The Marlboro Award
Finally, a sig you can enjoy without fearing the carcinogens that it contains. By that, of course, I mean that this award belongs to the MOTLer with the best sig.
The nominees in this category were GottaLoveElves, stu55, MeddlingMage and iccarus.
And, you could almost say that this guy is smoking hot with his performance in the awards this year; congratulations to your winner BoltBait! The voters have once again picked function over aesthetic and agree that a signature that serves a legitimate purpose is worthy of this award.

The Trnothr Award
This award goes out to the most electric member of the boards; is always arguing their point, and doing so in a manner that doesn't make most of us hate them, anyways.
The nominees here were eclinchy, Stat1c_X, TheMidnightBomber and nderdog.
The runner up in this category is long time member JoshSherman, here perhaps most notably because he's a fan of everything Boston and there are more people in New York.
The winner, however, for the third straight year, and by his largest margin yet, is Goaswerfraiejen! Anyone who can remember that name to type it in upon login regularly has to have something working upstairs. Congrats Goas!

The Radiance Award
This one is for the brightest member; handy with a link or downright browbeating depending on what information you need/spew.
The nominees here were jeb, BoltBait, coolio, Goaswerfraiejen, WestWycke, and defending champion flaminio.
So, assuming you read the previous line, I can now tell you that your newly crowned well of knowledge is yakusoku! Congratulations on this award; you certainly earned my vote based upon the field theory joke from October sometime, and thanks to the votes of others, I'm sure this is well deserved!

The Homer Simpson Award
This award goes out to the member perceived to be the funniest around the boards. They bring the ROFL's, and once they LOL, they just can't... stol?
Damn, somehow that doesn't work as well for me as it does for Pringles...
And, as with every year, I have proved exactly why I didn't win!
The nominees here were GottaLoveElves, nderdog, speechjew, iccarus and MeddlingMage.
Your overwhelming choice for Homer Simpson this year, though, is ronandaggy! Congratulations on another first time award!
And, also, since I can't remember your kid's name, I officially have an excuse to just call her Maggie.

The Mike Bullard Award
This award, in contrast to the Homer, belongs to the member whose jokes fizzle like a revised edition counterspell that was the target of a deflection. They're just not funny, trying or not.
...Or like mine.
The nominees here were ShawnSr, Mruthyu and nderdog.
Your unfunner up this year is the previous champion (or, rather, not); JoshSherman! I think you get the congratulations in this blurb, Josh, for shaking that title!
The winner of The Mike Bullard this year by a pretty hefty margin is Selvaxri! Cong...something?

The Chronicle Award
Well, this award is supposed to go to the stupidest banned member from the previous year. Unfortunately, the number of votes for already banned folks and people banned in '06 far outweighed the votes which may have been legitimate, and I never even heard of the people the possibly legitimate were about. So, with that said, this one will be going unawarded this year.

The Hit & Miss Award
This one goes out to the member most missed by the forum population. Banned, bored, bincommunicado, whatever; we want them to come back.
The nominees here were eclinchy and rockondon.
There were two legitimate vote-getting runner ups in this category; first and foremost, the three time champion of this award, PlasteredDragon, is still missed by some MOTLers. And, second up, good news for some voters -- pyr0ma5ta is back, even if you did miss him.
The winner here, however, getting my vote among others, was Jazaray. Hopefully the kids and boyfriend and the life for her is great! And, we can all certainly agree that she's missed by the community.

The _____ in the _____ Awards
These awards contain some quick statements about MOTLers intended to be amusing.

The first blank deals with MOTL modship, and the most likely candidates (as voted by the users, so it doesn't quite count ) for it.
The nominees for this blank were daner and implode.
T1) "And your newest mod for MOTL is GottaLoveElves!"
T1) "And your newest mod for MOTL is Ml490!"
Apparently, both myself and Ml490 are considered likely by a few of you to contend for The Real Estate in the future. Thanks, congratulations, etc!

The second blank deals with Magic: The Gathering, and the ability of our users to play the game that brought them here.
The nominees for this blank were Kluckers, nderdog, wrshp666, jott, hilikus and yakusoku.
1) “Wow, look, MAB_Rapper is playing on the Magic pro tour!”
Well played, MAB!

The third blank deals with television, and the MOTLer who you think would be most interesting to see on it.
The nominees for this blank were GottaLoveElves, speechjew, nderdog, JoshSherman, Jazaray and skizzikmonger.
1) “Hey, BoltBait has his own TV show!”
Another one for the trophy case, eh BB? Congrats!

The fourth blank is a joke indicating the MOTLer who most often talks about their altered states of consciousness as brought on by bad substances that Jesus most certainly would not approve of overconsumption of and boy do I need to cut this run on sentence don't you think?
The nominees for this blank were daner, cerberus and implode.
1) “Hello, I’m Ml490 and I’m an alcoholic.”
This is Mark's second year in the program.

The fifth blank is the MOTLer most likely to be a brick or three short of a load and whose anger and disdain for people, we think, will see them on a shooting spree.
The nominees for this blank were eclinchy, Matt Conroy and Selvaxri.
1) “Welcome back to Channel 6 news, I’m Kent Brockman. In local news, police have finally gunned down Tha Gunslinga from his murderous rampage.” (33%)
Seems like he and Selvaxri are trading this award.
I'll let you make your own joke here, as I'm bound to offend someone if I keep talking, haha.

The sixth blank is the MOTLer who's most likely to show up and steal a Chronicle award in the future.
The nominees here were nderdog, BoltBait, Leshrac, scrum and avendor. Yes, 3 of them are mods/admins. Children these days.
1) “OMGWTFLOLBBQ, Ml490 just got bant good!”
Like last year, I'll mention this award's predictive validity -- it's been right pretty much every year. What will '08 bring?

The Spool Awards
This is the section where MOTLers who have a presence in certain threads get their recognition.

The first spool is for Captain N, the UBB gamer among us.
The nominees for this spool were GottaLoveElves, nderdog and MAB_Rapper.
However, Captain N, by a sizable margin, is MeddlingMage! Congratulations on your success both in the awards and in the games.

The second spool is for the MVP, or the sports guru among us.
The lone nominee for this spool was MAB_Rapper.
The runner up for knowledge of things involving running is daner! Is that why you're beating me in fantasy hockey?
And, your MVP for this year is speechjew! Congratulations -- and let me guess, a Rangers/Islanders/Knicks/Jets/Giants/Yankees/Mets fan?!

The third spool is for Judge Judy; the member who gives great M:TG Rulings advice.
The lone nominee for this category is nderdog.
Taking a step down from last year, but still receiving runner-up gratitude is WestWycke.
And, your winner, in a trade-like deal, is last year's first runner up. Well done, orcishartillery!

The fourth spool is for Siskel &/or Ebert, the member who knows their movies.
The nominees for this spool were flaminio and speechjew.
The winner of this category is a name that, even if you're skimming this post, you've caught at least twice by now -- congratulations, BoltBait!

The fifth spool is for The Rolling Stone, the member most regarded as a music buff.
The nominees for this spool were cerberus, potm, *Tedman* and Denizen.
That leaves your winner, who still swears his '07 CD review went up at a coincidental time. (That would be me).
Thanks again, all!

The Kings/Queens of MOTL Award
As always, the conclusion to the 200X MOTL Awards are going to be the naming of the winners of the popularity contest. This category sees four votes from each balloter with a total of seven winners named. And, I'll even give you some suspense to chew on -- both of last years winners have been dethroned!
This year's nominees for the Kings & Queens were hilikus, JoshSherman, Omega, super324, Denizen, rockondon, Bob Phyllis, Ml490, Valmtg, Leshrac and Tha Gunslinga.
There is a three way tie for fifth place this year; congratulations go out to returning (and missed) winner Jazaray, and first time winners Goaswerfraiejen and daner!
Taking up the fourth position, all by his lonesome, is BoltBait. Congratulations on your gazillionth merited mention of the post, BB!
The first runner-up, AKA second place, sees two ver familiar names: last year's co-kings of MOTL, GottaLoveElves and nderdog.
Hey nder... what say we team up and fight the winner for the throne back? There's two of us!
Finally, the part of these awards that I hope you anticipate most; the part where I announce your new king of MOTL. This year, in a move that wouldn't surprise a sociologist anywhere, the friendliest and funniest guy is also the most liked. Congratulations to ronandaggy, your new king of MOTL!
(Hey, technically don't the two of them have enough for a monarchy now? There's two of them, and a princes...

Well, 5 + 1 makes 6, so this would be the sixth time I've done this.
Although I'm sad to see that the awards lost a little bit of readership this year, I'm still really glad to be able to make everyone who won or was nominated feel good for being recognized; and even though it took me forever to get the chunk of time I needed to slog through this, I'm glad to have been the one to organize this and type it up.
This wouldn't be a MOTL Awards post without me throwing out a few names of people I'd like to thank. First & foremost is Leshrac; for reasons that I really doubt need elaboration. Thanks to all the green-titled folks (and inca911 too!) for keeping this community clean as a place where I like to troll and people actually know my name. Insert Cheers reference here. Thanks to all the conversationalists, or just folks who, like me, post where and when they have the time. It takes lots of us to make a community, ya know. (Yes, I copied that last bit from last year, but it bears repeating) Thanks also to anyone who's donated money to MOTL, or to the MOTL stack -- much like the names above donate their time, you've donated from your pockets so mooches like myself can be here. And, thanks to anyone who isn't in that list, because honestly, everyone deserves a thanks somewhere for something, and they don't always get it.
If there are two words that I've overused in this post (read: that I really can't find good alternatives to in a thesaurus), it's the two that I'm going to repeat to close out this year's awards:
Thanks, and congratulations!

Good job GLE...hopefully I'll get one next year, seeing as I just started being a frequent poster.
Congrats everyone!

I don't think there's one for misspellings. And, besides, Ml490 would win that one anyway.

Most likely to be on the Pro Tour?

Well, a win is a win. Thanks all.

Kinda shocked that dominating Fantasy Hockey means nothing nowadays.

Holy crap... First of all, I'd like to thank the Acade-- oh wait.

Finally more of you people than not realized what I've been telling you the whole time-- I'm not that unfunny! I totally voted for Selvaxri...

I had asked GLE to let me rename the award if I won it again. I'm almost upset that I don't get to. Almost.

Whoah. I've got to say, I'm surprised by a few of those. Aaaanyhoo, congratulations all 'round, many thanks to GLE for spending time on this, and here's to a more active MOTL year!

By the way, I definitely like the sound of "The Stronghold Award".

Well, I'm totally honored to win the Proton Award. Although, I do feel a little guilty. I haven't done anything even remotely close to the posting box in a long time.

My sig is also honored to win the Marlboro Award. Logout button FTW!

And, the movie award?

I guess strong opinion counts for more than knowledge these days.

Thanks everyone! Thanks, Tony, for putting the whole thing together. You are a brave man for crossing the picket lines...

I would also like to send congratulations out to all of the other winners! There were some surprises, but nothing that wasn't well deserved. You guys/gals rock!

Thanks everyone, especially GottaLoveElves.

As far as the "The ___ in the ___ Award" #2, I'm surprised my goofups about every week in the V3CB didn't put me out of the running, cancelling any other information I post regarding the general state of magic.

I'm very pleased to have won the Radiance Award, but I have to sheepishly admit that although I read through the initial nomination/pre-presentation thread, I failed to submit a ballot. Part of it was that the holidays managed to chomp away at my time, and I forgot to submit something. I got put in charge of the turkey and several other dishes at our annual New Year's Day party, as well as moving furniture (the sofa from the living room goes to the family room, the dining room table goes to the living room, the chairs from the family room go to the living room). Part of it was that I really didn't know who to nominate for almost every award, except scrum, orcishartillery, and possibly nderdog for something. I'll be more conscientious to send even a partial ballot next time around.

I'm sure you do, and I expect that, if nothing else, it's probably a condition of your return. And, I'm aware you never won the award.
But come on man, your umpteen post-per-page days are getting to legendary status.
The whole point of me compiling these the way that I do is more or less for everyone to get a laugh, and a reference to the legacy that you left certainly wasn't my way of saying "good riddance" or "why's he back", but rather just what I said: a reference, added to give the comment some flavor.
Long story short, my intent wasn't to offend or belittle you.

Take a guess at how many people in that league actually cast ballots.
And, I threw my vote at daner, because every time I've even as much opened a sports thread, he's there. I tried to go for a more wholistic view, haha.

I should probably say something here;
honestly, the fact that I keep bringing up how low balloting was wasn't intended to guilt people (such as yourself) who couldn't find time to throw together a ballot, and I know some categories aren't as clearcut as others. Honestly, I can see myself having been someone who meant to send one but didn't, and even when I did make a ballot I had a bit of trouble picking in some cases.

Perhaps that came off too strongly. I don't actually resent that remark so much as I think it's funny. I guess my good behavior is a condition of my return insomuch as any karma smacks will result in red letters yet again, though I wasn't really planning on going any rampages in the forseeable future. Here's to humor at my expense!

Thanks for the hard work GLE!

I'm assuming voter turn out was pretty low this year, and that there were a few joke votes. I mean, who would honestly vote for me as the friendliest member? Also, I have a good bit of faith on ml not becoming a mod in '08.

Congrats to ron on being the newest queen of MOTL.

When does Selvaxri even try to be funny? This was more of a "let's give the guy we don't like an award for being lame" than anything else.

Nice, it took almost three years, but you finally came up with a comeback.

I like the new "Stronghold Award" name, GLE.
