Equip cost is a bit high and its also random.

I'm not sure if shuffling them in the deck and never drawing them constitutes playing them . Just picked up another one last night and never drew it in 3 games. Your point is a good reminder of the value of SOM drafts, I would like to do more SOM drafts but last I remember the queues fire too slowly for me.

Odds are Trepanation Blade usually just gives +1 or +2 power to the creature.

What about the flail? Double damage is very strong in this format.

I value trep blade at "unplayable"
The flail is always intriguing, but I would want to put it in a deck w/ a bunch of fliers and I never seem to get to that point where I want to include it. It has the advantage of being cheap to cast/equip and in this fast format you kinda need that.

Ran into my worst MTGO day for awhile.

Played in three 8-4 draft. 1st draft, mulligan down to 4 with a 1 lander, because apparently having more than 1 land is forbidden despite a 17/23 land/spell ratio. In the second game, all the lands that went missing came back, and I went from a 3 land 4 spell hand, to drawing 10 lands in my next 13 cards.

2nd draft, once again, having more than 1 land is forbidden, and I went down to 6, then lost the game with 5 spells and 10 land. Game 2, same as above.

3rd draft game 1, I didn't miss a land until turn 11, and a 3/3 went all the way and took me down. Game 2, mulled a one lander away, then never drew another spell the rest of the game.

Seriously, WTFBBQSAUCE?

edit:

sigh. Another game where I had 12 land on the table and less than a handful of spell...

And...my opponent drops a turn 1 Reckless Waif in all 3 games. If this isn't a family friendly site, I would've added some serious profanity into this.

I am 0-5 today.

Last draft, round 2 game 3, the usual happened. I had control of the game early, but after a think twice + flashback, I played a total of 7 spells, and had 13 lands. My mana/spell ratio is beyond normal for the entire day, and as much as I hate getting flood, I will bet you anything that if I go down to 16/24, I will be mana screwed.

I'd take the dragon every single time. I can't count the number of times that my last pick is a vengeance...it always wheels in my experience, unless someone else is drafting a vengeance deck ahead of you. If you were passed vengeance as a late pick the first two times then it's a pretty safe bet you'll get the third one.

The dragon is definitely a bomb in limited. Will it connect? maybe...maybe not. But if it does you're pretty much guaranteed victory when you're running him in a burning vengeance shell.

Personally I've started forcing W/U stalkerblade whenever humanly possible. It's ridiculously easy to draft and there's only a handful of cards between the two colors that aren't relevant. If you can stick to humans and spirits along with a smattering of equipment then you can pretty much sleepwalk your way to a playable deck.
