I was on vaction in 98 0r 99. We went to get something to eat and when i got our of the car i looked around and saw this had written sign that said magic the gathering played here. So i went over to check it out. The place was a machine shop and the guy who owned the shop had set this small part aside for his son and his friends to have a place to play. I was looking at the few cards they had for sale. Almost imeditly 3 cards caught my eyes. a counter spell, llanowar elf and a dark ritual. So i asked the kid ( 10 are 11) how much they were. He goes they are some kinda of promo cards that we don't know anything about Is $5 a peace to much. I said no and asked if he had any more. He goes under the cash register and pulls out a tundra and ask if i would pay $20 for it. I said yes. Even back then $35 for 4 summer magic cards was a great find.

Basalt Monolith is a ten center so that's not really a steal or anything

years back I bought a beta Underground sea from a guy on ebay for $60.00 shipped. He had 0 Feedback.... Got the card, it was alpha and MINT! At the time BB seas were only about 100 to 125. Should have PSA graded it, and wish I still owned it.

Last Friday, I was looking for for Angelic Destinies to play in a standard FNM. I asked around, and one couple said "we have them, but we're selling all our cards." I offered to take a look at their collection, and he offered it to me, on the spot, for $50. I doubt I would have paid cash for the Destinies alone, but I figured this couldn't hurt, and my recollection was that their collection was worth significantly more than $50. I was right. If they had let me look before offering, my initial offer would have been $100, knowing I was getting a great deal at that price. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*Facebook*Logout- I had it second!*CKGB

Not sure if this would count or not, but I had several binders of promos set aside as "no value cards". I dug through them in October and found that I had 4 Signed FNM Promo Dissipates. Glad I didn't just list them at $1 when I first looked at them...__________________ MOTL's Most Likely to Play in the Pro Tour - 2007, 2008, and 2009 (My Nationals) The Official Tower Magic Facebook Page

Went back to the Charlotte, NC area for the most recent SCG Invitational, and stayed with my brother near Charlotte where I grew up. As I was settling in for the night when I first arrive, he pulls out an old decrepit looking box and says it was from when we first started playing.I open it, excited about what treasures I might find. First card I see? Pack mint Foil Apocalypse Vindicate. Some other hits included smaller things like Cabal Therapies, Cabal Coffers, Exalted Angel, Strip Mines, etc...

Three years ago, in the local $0.10 bin I found:x8 - Show and Tell X2 - Mishra's Factory (4th, AQ) X1 - Entomb X4 - Power Artifact X16 - Enlightened Tutor (MR) X2 - Transmute Artifact X2 - Morphling X3 - Necropotence X1 - Doubling Season X1 - Lotus Petal X4 - Guilded Lotus X1 - Rishidan Port I even found it in my heart to point out that these were misplaced, but the employee informed me that, "If they're in the $0.10 bin, then they are $0.10." Needless to say, I made out like a Noggle Bandit XD

So heres my story of a failed find. It was about 8 years or so ago when the US Nationals were in Kansas City. A few friends and I had left South Carolina early to try and grind into Nats through the LCQs. About an hour into the trip one of our friends starts telling this story about his cousin who knows where some Beta and Arabian Nights cases are in Lodi, Michigan in a tiny Generals Store. Needless to say, this is every magic players dream so we discuss it and see if we want to skip the LCQs to go. We attempt to contact the general store but cant find a phone number. We call the chamber of commerce to find they are open for 2 hours, 1 day a week, so that was a bust. We decide to detour and drive it. After a 13 hour detour into the dueling banjo part of Michigan, we arrive in Lodi Michigan. Theres literally not a stop light or anything in the town. We see the Chamber of Commerce, right across the street from.....the Generals store. Our hearts are pounding. I wish I had a camera at this point because I remember the look on one of my friends face and it was priceless. We walk into the General Store and look around not seeing them but the place was a mess so we hope we are just missing them. I found the owner and asked if he had any. He said he didnt. I asked if he had ever had any and he said he had sold the 10 cases he had them 2 months prior for $50 a case because they had sat there for over 10 years. Gut shot! We didnt end up with any Beta or Arabian Nights cases but got one amazing story out of the trip.

these posts kind of remind me of scars of mirrodin just being released -- I was pretty excited about all the new dual lands and was pretty certain that they were all going to go up in value. However, at the time, most retailers that I checked were selling them for $1.50-$2.50 each and were buying them for about $.25 each. While I regretted trading down my 4 Vengevines (worth about $15-$20 and which were very hard to find) for a pile of duals from scars of mirrodin at $0.50-$1.00 each, it ended up being well worth the trade as I ended up with about 100 assorted Scars of Mirrodin dual lands. I knew that the trade was a major gamble (and I have lost quite a number of times on buying large quantities of certain singles), but my predictions proved to be absolutely correct. The worst // best part is that I had misplaced the lands along with all of my decks (including about 25 mixed revised dual lands) and never found the lands again until around the time that New Phyrexia came out. The misfortune ended up as a happy ending, once I found the box with the cards, turning out significant profits well in my favor.

I was digging through some boxes of commons/ UC's they had 5 or so 5000 count boxes sat out with a sign that said commons were 10 cents and UC's were 25 cents. I came across a section of older cards, revised, 4th ed., tempest, IA, ect... before there were colored symbols. Anyway I asked the guy working the counter and he said 0.25 for silver symbols and 0.10 for black symbols. so I picked up 2x sol rings, 2x Disk, 10 factories, a falling star, chaos sphere, concordant crossroads, 5-6 IA painlands, a few of the crappy tmp painlands, a reflecting pool, plus about 30 or 40 junk rares from IA and TMP for under $10
