I certainly meant English drains. I take zero interest in owning Italian drains or any IT Legends for that matter.

True story. Standard is like a high school relationship, fun but doesn't last long usually. Legacy is more like a post college relationship, stable, slowly increasing in value, etc. No idea where I was even going with that. Bonfire isn't even a fun card to play, I'd rather cast a drain 8 days a week.

Standard: extremely liquid, fluctuates significantly in value during season, depreciates rapidly as it begins to rotate out. Legacy staples: fairly liquid, relatively stable prices, generally appreciates Vintage staples (not legal in Legacy): very hard to move, stable in price but rarely goes up If you were trying to sell your Vintage staples, it would make sense to trade them for comparable value Standard cards assuming you could move them right away. However, there is usually no reason to sell Legacy staples unless you were really hurting for money, since you could always hold onto them and expect to make more later. While I imagine some people would be willing to trade a Drain for three Bonfires, I can't imagine many would be willing to trade a blue dual land for three Bonfires, unless there were an important Standard tournament they needed them for immediately.

Vintage is what? A 20-year marriage? Edit: That would also make Limited a one-night stand and Block Constructed a summer fling.

Cubing is really dirty and naughty then. If somebody wanted to give 1000 dollars in magic cards unless I had a ton of free time to move it around I would stick with the reserved list. That shouldn't ever go down. Granted you can easily make the most money in standard and you have a larger audience to sell to, but we don't all have the time for that.

It's a long bad marriage that nobody wants to be in.

I agree with Revenger on this one, as most players I am seeing come into our store are only interested in playing Standard, Commander (albeit with cards usually worth $3 or less each due to limited budgets) or rarely Modern. Basically, I have seen almost nobody where I am play legacy due to being in a small town and Star City, which is about 1 hour from where I live seems to rarely have local in-store legacy events either. Although I regularly ask people in my store if they want to hang out and play legacy for fun, free of charge, and the owner offers to have small free tournaments with promo cards as prizes if we have enough of a turn out, my legacy staples that are worth $30 or more retail tend to just sell to our casual EDH // Commander community vs selling a bunch of high-end staples to a competitive base like seen in major cities of the southwest and midwest. Likewise, most of our customers that sell to the store have mostly modern-legal cards and rarely have anything outside of a few $10-$20 staples for Legacy to restock store inventory. For that reason (and enough of my rambling), this is why I agree with Revenger, and also saying that if Legacy is hard to find, then invest slowly into the staples of the format (dual lands, force of wills, cards that will not be reprinted, and harder to find commons // uncommons from older sets, etc...). __________________ MTG Dealer for Fun-N-Games Hobby Shoppe @ 420 N Main St. Blacksburg, VA 24060 (540) 552-2204Fun-N-Games Facebook Page - Be a Fan!
