I agree with OCDOD that Pastimes staff was really screwy in the early going, they seemed to straighten things out as the con went on though. Dealer room was like super huge from when I went in 2010, and was pretty awesome all around. Got some neat stuff there. We stayed at the Comfort Suites, which was pretty close to the center. Like a 5-10 minute walk depending on how many blisters from walking, lol. Good times all around .
I enjoyed the Ram's 22 Oz beer specials a little too much. Pastimes was a jerk to my friend, and I'm never supporting them again. He plays casually and wanted to know if he bought a few singles if they could go lower, and the guy sarcastically snarks, if we could go lower don't you think the sticker price would be lower. I met some fantastic dealers over the weekend and even gladly payed a premium since they were so cheerful despite the mess of magic players in the vendor room. Pastimes got to monopolize the magic playing area, and couldn't treat anyone with respect. So confused...

Yeah they can be jerks. Being from the area I get punished by them for most tournaments. Over priced tournament followed by crap prizes and all but the judges are for the most part are very nice.

Yeah I noticed one dude in particular seemed like a jerk behind the counter. Their singles looked over-priced, so I didn't really bother with buying from them (aside from trying to find a foil Scion of the Ur-dragon). I think they realized they can get away with not reducing prices because they're still open after the dealer room closed. If you needed something after 6 PM, they were your only bet. I gotta agree that there's like no reason to be snarky about it though... Also, to go along with AGO's post. All of the judges were super cool, including the one short dude with the loudest voice ever. He was like trying to move people out of the way, and I'm sitting there going, what a jerk... like he can yell THAT loud. Then he yelled THAT loud. It was almost like a super power, lol.
A lot of the other magic dealers, especially the smaller ones were super cool, and I think my favorite part was going around the dealer room checking out everybody's stuff.

I also checked out all the dealers and compared sale prices and also buy prices. I think empire games had the best prices and he also bought alot of my stuff at the prices that i sell here. Also did anybody strike gold like I did at one of the big retailers who had 4 5k boxes of "played" cards. 99% of it was foreign. Snagged alot of korean tempest stuff at 2 for a $1. Saw a guy grab a chinese No Mercy and a bunch of other goodies too.

Missed out on that, but I did do some shopping at Empire. Got some neat stuff including but not limited to a Cabal Coffers for $2 that somebody had signed their name to with a smiley face. It was other was NM, and I said screw it, still works just as well as any . Wish I had found that gold mine though!

I find the smaller retailers to be much more friendly as that is there business and they want to have a good customer base. The larger retailers just hire these drones who are there to serve you and not make you happy.

Reminds me of when I went in 2010 to Gen Con. Last day all the vendors had sales going on, so we decided to do one last sweep before we made the 12 hour drive to NY. I found a few things at one of the booths, and there's thsi girl behind the glass helping other customers. So we're waitin in line for this one dude. He's like how about these cards for value - x. She's like "Sorry I can't negotiate prices on these." "Oh come on, a cute girl like you can't get me a discount?" Apparently this girl was having a rough weekend, and she had been harassed throughout the con. "F-you, get away from my booth I never want to see you again!!!" My friend Nick and I are standing there both dumbfounded, and completely entertained. Like HOLY CRAP THAT WAS SO AWESOME. I love this girl, but I know if I say it I'll get screamed at. *Deep breathe.* "How can I help you guys?" (smiling) Which was even more awesome. We bought a few things, and left. That was one of my favorite moments from the con that year though .

Can't Gen Con find someone better to run the magic area or at least let other organizers run events so maybe some competition forces these pastime idiots to shape up or lose out on the business at least at gen-con.
