Just as an FYI, motl is going to give you a slightly (actually, probably significantly) higher average age than other sites like salvation. Motl's a fairly (relatively, sheesh!) "old" site.

For the record, that's also something I sincerely love and genuinely appreciate about this site, and a contributor in no small part I'm sure to the fact that this is just about the most mature mtg site out there.

Under 13 has to have parental approval, from a mod or something. Has to send in a document for approval. So under 13 is allowed~ but with restrictions and such.

That's not quite how COPPA works. If as a part of registration for this site, the site itself collects information that could be used to personally identify a person (email address, home address, telephone numbers etc) or allows such information to be publicly available (like on a profile page) then anybody under 13 requires express written consent from their parent or guardian in order to register on the site.

If someone posts a thread saying "how old are you?" and someone posts "I'm 12" all that happens is the staff of MOTL become required to check whether that person filed COPPA permissions with them, or else ban them immediately from the site.

True, but things get a little more complex when we're talking about a site where it's likely that the underage person has given someone else their physical address in the course of a trade. It's just not worth the potential headaches involved. Better to err on the side of caution and all that jazz.
