I wonder if this guy cheated to make Top 8...http://classic.magictraders.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000468.html At least he didn't get a PT Invite.

Yes, received 2 game wins in different matches, and one warning. Dude playing Pod in brand new sleeves had his pods blatantly marked. I didn't notice until shuffling for the 2nd game, so he kept the win for the game he cheated in, and lost the second game. Cheating is absolutely rampant in GPs.

Way worse. Brand new sleeves and it was his first match of the tournament (2 byes). His pods' sleeves had huge circular indents in them, like he pressed a loonie on each sleeve. Every other sleeve was perfect. I really thought he was going to get the DQ, he and the judge were gone for 9 minutes. Game 3 was no fun. Me sitting there against a cheater, knowing I was going to lose, because I had to mull to 4, and him sitting there not saying 1 word.

Honestly the fact that there's so much cheating, in addition to all the childish crap people pull at tournaments is one of the reasons why I don't play in anything higher level than FNM. I guess I'd play online, but online is too expensive.

+1000. I feel like at every major tournament someone gets caught cheating. Seriously? It's actually quite sad.

The worst part is that if you're semi-sloppy you're more likely to get penalized by sharks than the guy who is teh ch33tz.

That another one of the instances that happened against me. I look down to draw my card (it was turn 2) and when I'm looking down he draws a card. I said "Did you just draw?" He says "yeah, I thought you said go? "You thought I said go as soon as I drew my card for the turn and before I looked at it? Judge" He got a warning. Edit: Realize that these guys will cheat when they are being filmed, this is how much they rely on it, so what do you think is happening during a typical 1v1 matchup? Alex Bertoncheaty was allowed to cheat for years, was caught multiple times on film blatantly cheating, won the last tournament he was caught cheating in and only afterwords due to public outcry was he stripped of the title/prizes and suspended.

+1. At GP San Antonio, I told gaeacradle about this guy who told me to play faster ( I was playing at a reasonable speed) so he called a judge. the judge came and stood there for a minute and told him I was playing at a reasonable pace. I believe he was trying to intimidate me into making bad plays. In one occasion, I had 1 lothleth Troll out and a Strangleroot geist so he rolling temblor and I say ok so I pick up my geist and put a +1/+1 counter on him, and he tells me that my troll dies, and I tell him it doesn't because I'm going to regenerate him ( I have 4 swamps open) he calls a judge and tells him I can't regenerate because that moment has passed. I was like " WTH, It's obvious I'm going to, I have 4 swamps open" and he says " I don't know whats obvious, I know you didn't regenerate him" so the first judge ruled in my favor, he appealed it and the head judge overturned the ruling. so I lost my troll. He Lost the match, KArma can be a bitch. But I don't get why to some people winning at any expense is so important, trying to find any way to get an advantage. In the last round of the tourney, that same guy played right next to me, and he called the judge 2-3 times against that opponent. If I think he's trying to pull crap just to try and make his opponents play bad, can I tell a judge? is that fine?

You dont matter, the rules don't matter. What you can make the judge believe is all that matters. Anything outside of FNM is tainted with the ungodly need to win at any cost. Their not there to have fun or make friends. Their there to win. Cheating runs rampant in all forms of competitive play for all sports. Why would Magic be any different.

These same guys who cheat at the high lvl events also cheat at the lower end ones (FNM and such). I wouldn't put it past them to cheat at kitchen table magic. Winning is all that matters.

Really I don't get all the scumbag magic players. Its not even like you can win much money playing magic. Also its sweet how much trading you can do. I have a buddy who does my trading for me and he made me a large ammount in cards while trading up and down all three days.

Aww. I would have gone for cheap bulk. Toronto bulk is better than Vancouver bulk. Last time I got in 60K of bulk and there were beta commons in it.

To be fair, I would call a judge on you as well in this situation. Sequencing is important.

yeah, that's why I'll probably stick to smaller tourney's from now on. People tend to not want to look for any minor thing in order to get an advantage. Like I said, It was pretty obvious I wanted the troll alive. He noticed I made a mistake by not following the correct sequence so he called it on me. I got it, It probably won't happen to me again. and he still lost the match. so all's well that ends well.

Um, it was previous obvious you that you passed the chance to regenerate it. You probably learned from it, but you were made a mistake doing it like that, and moving onto the Geist indicates that tremblor resolved and dmg was done. At FNM, you might get the takeback, it's a lowprize event, for fun. GPs are for Cash, not storecredit/cards. Except in Germany.

I had this type of thing happen to me in a tourney once. My opponent cast sphinx revelation during his main phase and it put him to 9 cards. He discards down to 7 cards and then tries to activate his Tamiyo tapping my Thragtusk. I said I'm sorry but your discard phase happens at your end step you can't activate tamiyo after discarding down to 7 for your turn. I felt terrible and he was a good guy so eventually after talking to him I let him have it but it did end up costing me the match.
