I'd imagine you might draft each set individually with 2 set blocks to get the most out of each set as in each draft will consist of 3 packs of 1 set or another set.

You kind of need/want a baseline of stuff in a draft format like, a few disenchants, some kill spells, etc. Typically wizards doesn't put enough of that baseline stuff in the small sets to make them practical on their own. The last few years I've drafted small-small-small with friends (as a way to crack packs) and it's always a bit of a mess. I would not have wanted to play any of those formats competitively. Draft formats also get "solved" much like standard. Having a really tiny card pool will only worsen that problem. Wizards could change the way they produce small sets to make them fun to draft stand-alone, but it would probably mean less variety in the small sets and a very quickly solved draft format.

I'll miss the Core set. I always liked it, a fresh change after another crappy 2nd or 3rd block. I'm positive that that is changing though, so I'm glad we're getting better sets to draft.Don't play standard because there is too much money involved and everything gets stripped down leaving a few decks competitive enough to play. I hate that. Copying a deck from the internet and then winning is not how the game was meant imo. Half the fun comes from creating something from scratch. __________________ I'm a geek, you're a geek. Let's trade.Lord Flasheart: Enter the man who has no underwear. Ask me why. The last Small x3 draft, Coldsnap, was pretty awful.

Actually, this 2 set block isnt going to worsen the problem at all. Compare it to now. Theros - Big Set, 3x Theros. Play for 3 months, then the format changes. Born OT Gods - Small Set, 1x + 2x Theros. Play for 3 months, then format changes. Most of the Theros decks are still good, doesnt change much. Journey - Small Set, 1x1x1x. 3 Months, most of the previous stuff is still good, doesnt change much. And now, the real kick in the nuts! You can either draft even more of the above, or draft the AMAZING CORE SET(tm). Yay :/ In the new system, Steps 1 and 2 are the exact same. Now instead of step 3 and AMAZING CORE SET(tm), we start with a whole new, fresh format. If you're talking block constructed, sure, only having 2 blocks makes it more solvable, but it changes twice as often. Overall, this is a big plus to limited.

Thror, I'm perfectly fine with the way it's going to work. My comments were in response to a hypothetical - drafting smallx3 and ignoring the large set from the same block.

With each block rotating in 6 months, I predict that standard will be less popular as people are less willing to put money into decks that can possibly rotating at such short time.

The format rotates every 6 months, but you still get a decent length of time with cards, and now oppressive cards will leave the format sooner without needing a ban. First sets are around for 18 months instead of 24, second sets are around for 15 months instead of 21. You still get more than a full year with your cards.

On the other side, people may draft more often as the format changes more often.
