On a side note to add to the old school feel.

There were not any spoilers online like there are now.

That was one of the reasons you bought duelist, inquest, scrye. They would have a free spoiler of all of the cards and usually some magazine would have a couple of the new cards included. There would be an article or two about new strategy. Again you didn't net deck, you looked at what others were doing that you lost to and said hey that was a neat combo or trick I am going to use that.

Heck I had a buddy with COP red and orc canoneers and orc artillery, along with other burn stuff and swords. Took care of the damage, Shivan, Fireballs and other stuff. Not a top tier deck by any standard, but a lot people on these boards haven't seen COP of any kind in a really long time.

Because COP is utterly overpowered? When they were common they pretty much ruined limited.

thats what i miss about old school mtg. Scrye was my bible. Always neat to see the prices go up (or down).

and yes, COP black was my MVP card. It just killed my best friends mono black deck filled with nightmare, and sengir vampire. We didnt use sideboards either. But I always maindecked COP black just b.c i felt like being a d1ck to my best friend

I remember discovering MTG through my high school friends in 1994. Sets avail at the time were Revised and ATQ. Legends packs were available buts scarce. There was an upcharge at my LGS (now defunct) for packs of legends i think they were $5 or 6/ pack.

I remember popping open my first starter deck ever and i remember pulling a savannah. I had no idea what any of these cards were worth and my friend put the order of cards that he thought were best starting with: 1. Craw Wurm, 2. Dragon Whelp, 3. mesa pegasus because it had FLYING !! LOL. Man those were the days.

I remember when the DARK came out...i bought like 8 packs or so and first pack i pulled what my buddy thought was the biggest game changer for red, BALL LIGHTNING. my friend who had set my 1st starter deck was a red player and I remember him drooling over this card. That was until the best card ever from dark... MAZE of ITH. We got into so many arguments over whether that could be used against serra angel or not... lol. Good times good times
