A bunch of friends and I were going to buy a case at MSRP because a store was willing to order them for us by the case even though the store had no plans to sell them otherwise. That fell through, and I'm kinda glad it did. This stuff is pretty mediocre so far in 2 aspects.
still seems like a fine deal at MSRP to get a dark depths, token, and jitte for under $40 plus some other foils like ritual

Most of the local stores around me like to price hike the FTV sets. There's no way any of the local stores in my area will sell this for MSRP. They will be $75+ like the last few before FTV angels which was still $55-60.

As mm1983 said, good luck getting it at MSRP. __________________ "Message to women worldwide: Girls....we're stupid. We don't like games. We don't know games. We can't read minds. Say it like you mean or STFU." -rockondonSale Thread

It was in response to you saying that if you had the opportunity to seems like you should have taken it. As I said previously the chief complaint about ftv aside from the foiling process is that you can't actually get the cards near MSRP.

TBH though MSRP on FTV's exists only for distributors, the price has little to no relevance for stores, as even WoTC has stated, it's not meant to be sold at MSRP.MSRP just needs to exist so Distributors are giving a price point to give a % on to stores, otherwise you'd see FTV's going for WAY more as stores pay 100+ to buy them, then mark them up again, which is likely what would happen. __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. How much is a card docked for being less than NM? I have a couple of MP & SP Zen fetches to trade it I don't know how much to reduce the value by.

It depends but for that kind of stuff 10% per drop in grade is typically what I remember SCG doing

Usually around 10% for SP, MP closer to 25-30% is ususally fair.

I wish I could trade for Pokemon cards over Pucatrade. I've been far more interested in that game than Magic lately. It's become quite a good game.

Outside of competitive play, how is Pokemon as a casual game? Never played it, but my daughter is obsessed with the IP right now and has expressed an interest in the game. I'm just curious how steep the learning curve is and how hard the rules/game play are for a kid to learn. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Super simple, game basics are extremely easy, and game is designed for casual play.

It's actually pretty fun. The online client offers you a selection of a few starter decks for free, and while they're not tournament level by any measure, they're all pretty interesting to play. The rules are fairly easy to learn, as there aren't crazy timing and stack issues like in Magic. It's all pretty straightforward. What I'm really enjoying about it is how deep the game has become, and if you really wanted to, you could build decks that play quite a bit like old school Magic. I bought one of the 2015 World Champs decks that is basically Reanimator, and goes through a TON of the Trainer cards to utilize your discard pile. If she wants to just play with Pokemon she likes, she can do that just fine too. She can even play with other people on the online client using just the precon decks, as there's a room for people to only play with those. It's super robust. Kicks the **** out of MTGO for sure.

GP Atlanta is going to cost $85 for the main event. Wtf happened? I thought last year's price increase was rough. This is ridiculous.

That's only $15 more than LA 2016 and SD 2015. Think of it like spending $15 on 6 packs plus the usual $70 GP price.

I thought it was $85 last year too. One of my buddies mentioned going, but ended up changing his mind. Maybe $85 was for some bonus stuff? Maybe my memory is rusty. Maybe old age is setting in and I'm just waiting to die. I did end up getting the Zur playmat anyway on eBay, signed even.

So I should be grateful that they want to screw me a little bit more... quote: Originally posted by DJSmurfy: I thought it was $85 last year too. You should be grateful it doesn't cost even more. I think the price is high too so I don't pay it, but I also don't think the price is unreasonable. TO's got away with super cheap GPs in the past because they wouldn't pay their judging staff - wizards gave judges foils for working GP. Labor isn't cheap and the size of these events has really boomed.

This. People really need to start to understand the logistics and costs that come along with organizing these huge events. Getting a venue large enough to hold a GP requires a huge up front cost, especially when you have to book it for at least 4-5 days to account for load-in, the tournament itself, and load out. Even having banners hung in the hall can cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. They are also often paying to have attractions like major artists on site. Stop looking at it from the perspective of a tournament at your LGS and more like a major gaming convention. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Whoa Berskerk and Show and Tell?!? The fact that this is available at retailers like Walmart should really drive down the prices right?

They should really make sure the events aren't run terribly, then. GP Charlotte, Vegas (the first one), Toronto (the third one?) were just the most unorganized events ever, and really turned me off GPs. That and everyone cheats, which is hard to stop.

Yes. Expect most prices on reprints to drop significantly.
