I feel that as magic has become more mainstream we've attracted more of those people we hate from xbox live. Wondering of others who've been around for a while feel that while we still have a lot of great people in the community, both new and old, the percentage has become skewed towards people that we don't enjoy being around.

Might just be me, but the Magic community has always been full of those people that know how to ruin fun. I don't think it's changed really; we've just gotten older and less tolerant of that behavior.

There are less sharks around and when someone tries to be a shark, the other fish gang up on the shark.

The people you never wanted to be around were always there. I think the difference from my perspective is that there are a greater number of them now. I'm also much less patient with new people at my LGS. In fact, I generally avoid them.

Most people I grew up with playing the game now no longer play where I do still play from time to time but not nearly as much anymore. Those who I grew up playing the game with who are still in it are now store owners themselves and just don't play much as they have a store to run. When I do go into a store to play anymore I don't know anybody else playing there. I'm getting older but the people around me playing aren't getting older. When I do play anymore just about everybody else is of high school age where I'm 33. Over the past 10 years I've grown to love this game more for the buying, selling, and collecting aspect rather than playing

Ugh, I feel like such an old fogey talking like this, but back in my day...If I still played with any form of regularity, I would probably know the local crowd better. There are few people at the nearest LGS (which is where I've primarily played for the last 12+ years) who look familiar when I go in about once a set to draft, but I never remember names. I still know quite a few players actually, but those that FNM are dispersed across the five stores in the area that host events. As for the personality of players, I don't notice any difference. You still have your players who are good, who are socially awkward, and those who take FNM way too seriously. That may be different at bigger events, of course. I just stopped playing in those 7+ years ago. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.
