iiven Member	posted January 14, 2002 03:48 PM indeed, possibly one of the most intelligently written articles ive read on here. im with you, i remember saying "ill never spend that much on a single card" unlike you, i bought my first starter because pokemon sucked (yes i played that pokething prior to magic) anyhow, i love fantasy games, so it was an easy choice. back to the paying for rares. i started by saying "i wont buy any rares for more then 10 dollars each" well that theory was shot to **** when i decided i wanted p9... it was all good. i traded stacks of rares for my first couple. then that day comes when you get the "too good" offer. a kid with a NM/M unlimited mox ruby came up to me, and said "70 bucks" deal. yes it was real, i've dealt with the kid a lot. so theres my first huge purchase. since then ive been shelling out cash for more and more rares, and may stop buying packs all together (i do enjoy the random part of the game though i also enjoy buying packs because i never have a problem with uncommons and commons, i have 4 to 50 copies of everyone common/uncommon since revised...

I traded, opened packs, and got a little lucky, pulling out a few nice things like Morphling, Wasteland, Thran Quarry (when it was good), Cradle, Port, and the like. All have since been traded, sold, or ripped off me, and I'm left with nothing but a stack of about 100 ***/ok rares, I gave my commons and uncommons to my nephew. ::sigh::, being a 14-year old poor kid is not easy, especially when you're addicted to the game. That's right, I have about 100 cards and I've been playing for FOUR YEARS.* Apprentice is my savior.

Munchies Member	posted January 22, 2002 08:29 PM i see opening packs as a form of gambling for people under 18 or 21 (either or in some casinos). it is kinda an addiction, and not a drug. i hate drugs, just picture me doing marijuana...I have asthma (for thjose of you who dont know, a lung disorder very common). I've tried to quit 5 years ago when I was engaged, but the addiction was still in my blood. I gave up an arm and a leg for my Beta Black Lotus, and I would do it again in an instant (although I only have 1 arm and 1 leg left to give ). __________________ Now I need some Nether Voids and Beta cards. I've been out of the scene for two years now, and although I don't regret having quit at the time (I simply didn't have any money at all to spend on other things), the game is pulling me towards it again. If I get a job during the school year, I bet I'll start playing again. However, I'm in my last year of high school, so I have to spend quite some time on school. But I know lots of people in universities that play Magic, so technically it should be doable. I think I will be back. Nice article. As for the topic's title question: I would drink my own urine for a beta black lotus, provided it's in decent condition. I played for a while, sucked, loved it, but quit when I lost all my cards. I started again a year or two ago because I was bored and it was so natraul. It felt great to feel the old pieces of cardboard crack back in my hands... its an addiction alright. I was never in denial though... I always knew I'd spend I fortune, I just never thought I'd get ripped on a deal for two moxen ;( Good times, and magic IS addictive. laxdudes New Member	posted December 08, 2002 11:19 AM i started magic but it was from my brother- not a friend- and he had been playing for a month so i bought 1 starter pack, 3 boosters and a tournoment pack. this was around 3 years ago. i looked at my cards and saw green was the highest percent so i made a green deck and creamed my brother. about 5 months ago i bought 2 onslaught booster boxes (pre-sell) and about 2 months ago i started playing in tournoments. last week i found many of my friends play magic and i had 50 lbs. box of non-type 2 cards. all of my friends have crap cards and are trying to trade 2 phantom nomads for a Krosan Colossus. i haven't spent more than $72 on a single thing but for one card i payed around $1 but hopefully this game won't engulf me and make me pay over $10 dollars for one card- i really want 3-4 blistering firecats but they are a minimum of $12 anywhere by the way i loved the article- i would never have written anything that long just to ask a simple question like "What would you do for a Beta Black Lotus?" but to answer the question since i still consider myself a newb i only trade for type 2 cards so i can edit my decks and i can still use them in tournomant __________________
