So, as many of you know, I used to organize a yearly forum award for MOTL wherein we all vote awards to members in a number of categories. Some serious, some just for fun. I've kind of been off the scene for a few years now, and while (as I've said in the PfS & in #motl) I still don't know how long I'll stick around, it appears as though my attention span is going to hold long enough for me to do this old song and dance again. I made the awards post from '02-'08 inclusive, nderdog took over in '09 & '10, and the forums were without the awards last year. No matter though, annual awards can skip years occasionally, just ask the Stanley Cup! ( ) I'm unsure how nder worked the process in the years he did them, but I know the last time I did them, here's how the process went: 1) We had an everyone-welcome panel discussion in #motl about what three members we thought most deserving of various acclaims/awards. (List of awards to follow) 2) I compiled the nominees, and made a post explaining each award and who was up for it. 3) Voting opened, and any MOTLer was eligible to vote. Write-ins were also accepted. 4) I compiled the post and presented it with many of my own lame attempts at humor & flavor text. & I have a few questions for you, the reader of this post: 1) Is this something you guys are still interested in, or am I beating a dead nostalgic horse? 2) If there's interest, would you show up for a nominations discussion if it's at a time convenient to you? 3) Should the awards remain unchanged, or should there be additions/subtractions? Basically, if the interest is there, I'd like to do the live nomination discussion again as before (with the date/time TBA), get everything straightened away, and get things typed up to have the votes open a week before Christmas (or so) and have the results ready to post early in the new year. Note that I've only been posting again here for a month or two, so I will definitely need the help on the setup in one form or another; I don't know who a lot of you even are. Finally, here's the list of awards as they stood the last time they were presented: The Mimi Bobeck Award (Biggest forum troll) The Real Estate Award (Mod who closes the most posts) The Stronghold Award (On the wrong end of a memorable massive pwnage) The Proton Award (Positive contribution to the forums) The Big Bird Award (Friendliest member) The Marlboro Award (Best forum signature) The Trnothr Award (Member who sparks the most debate/discussion) The Radiance Award (Most brilliant member) The Homer Simpson Award (Funniest member) The Mike Bullard Award (Unfunniest member) The Chronicle Award (Least missed banned member) The Hit & Miss Award (Most missed member) Rookie of The Year Award (Best new member) The ________ In The ________ Awards 1) "And your newest mod for MOTL is _______!" 2) “Wow, look, _______ is playing on the Magic pro tour!” 3) “Hey, _______ has his own TV show!” 4) “Hello, I’m _______ and I’m an alcoholic.” 5) “Welcome back to Channel 6 news, I’m Kent Brockman. In local news, police have finally gunned down _______ from his murderous rampage.” 6) “OMGWTFLOLBBQ, _______ just got bant good!” The Spool Awards (Prominence/knowledge in certain discussion threads) 1) Captain N (UBB Gamer) 2) MVP (Sports) 3) Siskel &/or Ebert (Movies) 4) Judge Judy (M:TG Rulings) 5) Rolling Stone (Music) Kings & Queens of MOTL (Popularity contest) MOTL Hall of Fame (As far as I can tell, it's just like it sounds. Ask nder for further details, this one wasn't me) I'll post my thoughts on updating awards in a separate post so as not to confuse this any more than I already have. __________________ Forum signatures: all the wisdom of a cereal box with none of the sugar! In terms of changes to the old format, I'll note that the fill-in-the-blank awards were added in '03 (I think?) to add a little meat to the awards. A couple of them, although they've been awarded a half dozen times or more, were literally something that I threw together in five minutes before making up the post. I.E. while "most likely to play on the Magic Pro Tour" & "Most likely to become mod" are worthwhile IMO, the decade-older/hopefully decade more mature version of myself thinks that "Most likely to get their own TV show" is a little superfluous/unnecessary, and "Most likely to go on a murderous rampage" & "Most likely to become an alcoholic" are both downright in bad taste in their phrasing (if not their intent). Also, while I know there are already a ton of awards, anything I'm missing would certainly be considered, especially in the spool awards. __________________ Forum signatures: all the wisdom of a cereal box with none of the sugar! We were set to add 4 names this year. Due to the way that votes have fallen and the fact that I have been active on MOTL for less than the others below, I am withdrawing my name from consideration. Due to a tie resulting from this, we will have 5 names added to the list this year. I will also be having a bit of a discussion in the next couple days regarding how to handle the HoF voting in the future to properly recognize the older members who this was really designed for. More on that later... 3 votes: coolio shadowizar 5 votes: inca911 7 votes: Tha Gunslinga 9 votes: Jazaray
It was discussed that to be voted in the member had to be on motl for a certain amount of years, though I cannot find what was discussed.

Not all of us can make it to the live discussion, especially myself. So I prefer the pm voting as was before. and it was 10 years suggested a few of us, myself included. But I do not think this was set in stone. Was just a suggestion. ~Revenger __________________ Your 2008 & 2010 Siskel & Ebert award winner!32nd in refs on Motl! #1 Ref's for Arizona! Votes will be cast over a ~2 week period via e-mail. The live discussion is just for deciding the "nominees", or basically the 1 of 3 MOTLers you'll be choosing for each category with your ballot. __________________ Forum signatures: all the wisdom of a cereal box with none of the sugar! 1. In 2. Yes 3. I believe we had SOME additions before, but now it looks fine. Maybe something along the lines of someone who isn't as active, but when they do post, it's usually for the most part non inflammatory and pretty insightful.

Nominates ryan2754 for this. In seriousness, I think it'd be nice. The renaissance of the GD is a boon for someone like me who quit magic but still likes this place

Absolutely, bring them back! They only fell off last year because I got busy with other stuff and never managed to get them finalized. For the Hall of Fame, I think having a group of older members who actually remember names like Squizz and Serra Angel creating the list of nominees would be great. The first vote we had way too many King and Queen type votes rather than a recognition of the people who actually made major contributions to MOTL, particularly in the earlier days. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. I'll give you three easy ones: raistlin squizz shadowizar The three original moderators of the BTA. I was moderating the Trading forums at the time and these three worked tirelessly to provide a sense of security to traders here that wasn't available elsewhere at the time. I realize that none of these are active anymore, but after coming back from a long hiatus myself and seeing what a mess online trading has become with arguements over sending responsibility and waivers, it makes me miss the simplier times and the effort that these three made to make MOTL the safest place to trade on the internet.

I remember them. shadowizar and raistlin the most.Very major contributots to the site. I also remember Goblin Snowman and Squirell Overlord as well_ I even nominated them one year. They did not get enough votes. __________________ Your 2008 & 2010 Siskel & Ebert award winner!32nd in refs on Motl! #1 Ref's for Arizona! I offer 3rd party trading services. Email if interested. Hm, perhaps the best way to handle that would to just pick one between a few of us? I agree with Glacier's input on those names, in the very least, they're all familiar to me from when I started here. Like, perhaps have to be a 10-year member to vote on it? Or a panel of such members will pick some? Either could work by me. Also, seems to be enough interest forsure. So, the #motl meeting: when is good for everyone? The weekend kind of sucks for me, and is short-ish notice; the earliest night I expect to be around would be Tuesday. Is 10PM ET/7 PM MOTL time too late for everyone? If so, I could do Wednesday at like 8PM ET/5 PM MOTL time. Thoughts? __________________ Forum signatures: all the wisdom of a cereal box with none of the sugar! I 2nd this (and I'm on East coast coast too). 8 oclock is too early on a Wednesday bc I coach 2 different basketball teams on those night. 1 is 6-7 and the other is 7-8 but always runs over. ~MM __________________ Blah, blah, blah werewolf.
