Sorry if it was a brutal assessment, but that just screams generic gaming store to me.

dunno, depends on how you look at it. The sit in the case, no one buys them. Price spikes and you get bought out is that bad? I mean the other option is to raise the price and have them continue to sit, might as well take the price you were happy with a few days ago. Am I saying to purposely sell yourself short all the time? nope, but if it happens to me I'm never sad about getting what I was asking for my cards.

Thanks again to everyone for the input. I know that we're looking at TCG mid for pricing, keeping condition in mind. We're also kicking around the idea of a "spend $X, get $Y off your next purchase" plan to get people to come back to the store. Also kicking around the idea of some type of membership or club that gets you 5% extra on trade-ins. We're already set on offering comic buyers who have a pull file 10% off for 1-4 titles and 20% off for 5+ titles.I like the fruit and other healthy options, we'll have them available to start and see how many people actually buy them. Someone joked earlier about free Modern Masters drafts. It occurs to me that I've got a box sitting on my shelf at home. Maybe "spend $X on Magic, get an entry into a drawing for a free MMA draft."

I've worked with loyalty programs. The simpler you get, the better. And instant gratification. So yes, a "spend $50 and get a coupon for $10 off your next $50 purchase" is better than "Buy ten packs get one free."

the jokes on you, we have one of these, its been open for like a year now, they have MTG, yu-gi-oh, weiss schwarz(somewhat newer game, only two shops in Colorado carry this stuff and both are in my area) Comics and games, sure the prices are a bit higher(in terms of games) but the owner is rather cool, and other staff knowledgeable its a cool shop to hang out at

Jokes on who? what joke? One of what? What's been open for a year? Anyways our LGS has rewards loyalty program that I hardly use. What I do like is that every Friday they have something different on sale. Week before last it was Jace vs Vraska for 15 each. Limit 2. Last week was buy 1 get 1 free walking dead figures. Which was awesome. It's the little things like this that keep me going.
Edit this is at FNM for FNM players only btw.

Video games. That usually is a big market and should draw people into the rest of the stuff. But space/capitol/and knowledge are key to games. This is the one thing I would do if I had a store. My brother and 2 friends run an amazon business and want to go to a retail space for storage and sales. They would have me run a game section for vintage and collectable games as I did it for years at flea markets. This I feel is ideal. Halo/COD/FPS tourneys plus other games.

My LGS used to have a system setup for Halo. It was a huge draw. A lot of them got into Pokemon and Yugioh later. I also think fighting games would work, but the crowds are really diverse since a lot of people are into specific fighting game lines. __________________ "Message to women worldwide: Girls....we're stupid. One of my local stores has these table covers that are essentially table-sized playmats. I am not one to carry my own playmat around but appreciate the cleanliness one provides over your standard store table, as well as not creating awkward situations where people use playmats and overlap into someone else's space. I also had a store that was willing to sell draft sets at a discount. We'd get together a group of 6 or 8 that wanted to draft, and they'd sell us draft sets at $9 despite charging $4 a pack normally. We weren't wanting anything sanctioned or run by the store, just packs and play space. We split into teams and the winning team got to pick from the opens as prize support. Honestly at most places I'd just as quickly 'borrow' packs from a friend and pay him cash when we got out of the store. This wasn't anything advertised, so the more casual crowd was probably paying retail, but it made the competitive drafters stick around a lot more.

I'd watch the microwave carefully if you go ahead and install one. The smells of some common food, such as popcorn, linger for as long time and turn some people off. Persistant odours make one think twice about spending a lot of time somewhere, and also you have to keep the bloody thing clean. I've seen people that cannot do this at home, let alone in a shop with the occassional self-centered jerk that doesn't care if his food boils up and all over the microwave. My LGS, Cerny Rytir, has their buylist on the website. This helps them control inventory and eliminates the distraction / unpredictability of whomever's on duty having to decide what the shop needs and what they're willing to give you. I know I'm in a well stocked shop if I see the following (in no particular order):Miniatures in various sizes, shapes, and companies both in plastic and some form of metal. Various individual bottles and sets of paints and miniature brushes, landscaping, other accessories. Deck boxes, sleeves, binders, and card sheets. Dice and tokens in many different forms, both in sets and individuals. Board games. When I mean board games it goes from the obscure to the most recent it just finally finished getting funded on Kickstarter and I have the first set available to sell. Card games. Card games galore! And it goes from the obscure Lunch Money to Cards Against Humanity, individual games, games that have expansions (like Munchkins), and then all your collectible and tradeable cards games. It wouldn't be a card store without Magic cards (duuuh!), an area where some guy is taking his time to painstakingly finish priming and painting his Warhammer figurines, some tables set up for gaming, a weekly flyer with lists of events happening every day of the week, bathroom that is questionable to use at best, giant selection of snacky foods and energy/caffeinated drinks, and the store mascot which is usually a cat or other 4-legged animal of some sort. __________________ ☆GøÐÐ맧☆ "The tin man says I'm doing fine"*Silver Jewelry* I'm a pluviophile.
