When I got back into MTG, one of the things I was casually collecting was stuff related to Grim Lavamancer since I used to do well with him in extended. My girlfriend keeps asking me what I want for my birthday/xmas. That got me thinking about things that would be neat to have but that I wouldn't buy myself. Any idea what the status is of the original Grim Lavamancer art and what it would fetch if for sell? What about Obstinate Familiar (here's why) or later Grim Lavamancer artwork? Thanks, Chris Edit: B/c of WOTC hosing their archived link here it is fixed http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/arcana/grim-lavamancers-friend-2011-07-26

I recall someone has it on here:http://www.originalmagicart.com/ You can try contacting them. I wouldn't sell it for less than $3000-4000. Edit: here. http://www.originalmagicart.com/member-galleries/original-magic-art/?album=1&gallery=71

If you are able to talk the person into selling it, it should be valued in the 1500-2500 range depending on its size. Problem is, most folks who have original artwork like myself, don't want to part with it. So even if its worth say 1500, the seller may not budge unless you offer much more.

The thing about Artwork is the value is what you will pay for it. We had a dicussion over the original vindicate art, people were valuing it at $2,000 but the new artwork for Thoughtseize had just sold for $2100+ so i couldn't see Vindicate going for less than $4,000 __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario and Canada 8th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

I'm the owner of the original Grim Lavamancer artwork, and it's not going anywhere unless you can trade me a piece I want more. Email me if you're interested in hunting down other pieces.

Balla indeed. I'm 2 hours south of you, maybe next time I'm in Chicago (was just there 2x last month) I can just come stare at it for a while.

You (or anyone else) happen to have any artist proofs of Grim Lavamancer? I got 3 off ebay. Kinda makes me want to have a 4th :-P Edit: Anyone have an account here to see how much THIS sold for? http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/mtg-grim-lavamancer-artist-proof-468803603

Well, I think I've tracked down who has the Obstinate Familiar artwork but he is a black hole type who never sells pieces even though he just got it in a lot of 5 things off ebay.I've only got guesses as to who has the Sutfin m12 Grim Lavamancer art and they might not be good guesses. Anyone know?

Good luck dealing with the art scene! Imagine if you got the artwork. Would you be inclined to sell it? Some of these people take each piece personally, if anything so that it can remain unframed and collect dust somewhere in their closet. It's sort of the nature of the beast with us magic collectors. Dan Frazier hit the nail on the head with the Mox Dragon. Many of us are just plain hoarders of this "treasure".

Ya, I get it when it's a specific piece you want. But just having it all in a warehouse to feel good that you own it is disappointing. I'd be getting it to take this collection up a notch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySPC9vK1m-s I've got those, plus some incoming, plus 2 sealed F&L decks, plus 15 obstinate familiar artist proofs Edit: Check out: https://www.youtube.com/user/LandDestroyer/videos First lavamancer video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFmlIKKCA5o 2nd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySPC9vK1m-s 3rd..ish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuZEzVvip0k A 4th exciting one is coming in March when I get more cards in :-P Am currently missing: My updated want list for Grim Lavamancers: S-Chinese: 2 Foil Torment Portuguese: 1 M12 Foil Plus special ones: Artist proofs Miscut Misprint The Fire & Lightning Ink error on the back that is pretty common Graded copies etc

Also, I finally found the original art for Mike Sutfin's M12 original art of Grim Lavamancer. What do you figure that's worth now? It's not for sale but guy said i could make an offerEdit: Nevermind. He wanted the same as jaco wanted for the torment art. I'm just going to have to stay away from original art. Edit2: It in fact sold a while back and I didn't update this.
