Webster's Dictionary defines an "award" as something awarded or granted, as for merit.
Webster's Dictionary defines a "cliché" as starting an awards presentation with Webster's Dictionary defines...
And, with that bit of silliness and attempted funny out of the way, it's time for yours truly to grant some props to some folks who merit them. The votes have been counted, the people have spoken, the post hasn't been typed (doing that now, duh), and MOTL is once again prepared to celebrate its discussion forum's standout posters!

This year's presentation, like this year's voting process, will see some small changes. After the introduction and some quick banter about each award, I'll do the following:
1) List all the nominees again.
2) Mention any write-ins.
3) Name the runner-up.
4) Crown the award's champion.
5) Probably take a sip of water and go refresh werewolf or change the song playing on my computer.
Not that you needed to know all of that, but hey, now you know what to expect.

After I've done this a couple of dozen times, I'll then move on to some concluding remarks about the awards this year, some potential stuff for next year, some thanks, and a long nap.
With every keystroke bringing me closer to said nap, let's get awarding!

The Mimi Bobeck Award
The award handed out to MOTL's biggest forum troll this year saw an interesting dynamic: The return of pyr0ma5ta to the scene after being banned most of last year, a defending champion in Ml490, and relative newcomer to trolling in skizzikmonger.
I use the word relative because skizzikmonger was actually the runner-up for this award, proving that even a new troll can be good at it.
However, skizzik was no match for the bigger troll under the bridge that is MOTL's GD, as pyr0ma5ta captured better than half of the vote to assert himself above the others--I'll repeat to give him credit, he was banned for it once.
Congratulations, pyr0!

The Real Estate Award
I've been wondering ever since I typed the original awards post if it would be funny to make a Simpsons reference in this preamble and say to stay off the west side.
Then, I decided that referencing this thought would likely pass for flavor text, and let my train of thought keep on rolling.
This award goes to the mod most revered for closing posts.
The nominees for this award were nderdog, Jazaray & The Gunslinga.
As with the last few years, this award presented a pretty tight race that went down to the wire.
And, as with the last few years, Tha Gunslinga is the runner-up.
And, as with the last two years in particular, squeaking it out by just two votes. nderdog wins the Real Estate Award for 2008!
As you've done every time I've said this after presenting you the award, nder, keep up the good work next year, MOTL recognizes you for it!

The Stronghold Award
The former WEOAMP award is awarded annually for the MOTLer most likely to be or having been on the wrong end of a massive pwnage. This year, all three nominees are believed by the committee to have been on the wrong end, and continue being on the wrong end of said massive pwnage, as opposed to one highlighted post. Selvaxri, skizzikmonger and ch3ckm4t3 were all up for this award.
However, a number of write-in votes were actually addressed for MAB_Rapper, as many in fact as the last place nominee. I'll leave it to any of those voters to explain why.
The runner-up for the award, possessing a little less than a third of the overall vote, was skizzikmonger. Troll on the wrong end of a massive pwnage, perhaps?
But, skizzik was no match for the winner in this category, ch3ckm4t3. I won't make extensive reference to any reasons why, but MOTL certainly says watch out to checkmate in '09.

The Proton Award
Thankfully, this board attracts nerd types, else I'd have to be much more clever to stew up a name for the award going to the member who MOTLers feel to put forth the most positive contribution. All kinds of positive input are recognized in the list of this year's nominees; PlasteredDragon's long and thought out posts give him a mention, BoltBait's tireless work as a mod and help with various site features has him nominated yet again, and iccarus' friendly demeanor and help with rules violations get his name on the ballot.
And, in the first of many dead heats on the slate, I have to announce that both non-winning nominees got their hands on about ¼ of the vote; thanks go out to PlasteredDragon & iccarus for all that they do.
Which, of course, leaves BoltBait to an unprecedented fifth consecutive Proton award. Congratulations, Bolty, you've now won this award so many times running that it's gettin' Boron!
Eh? 'Cause that's the atom that has five protons! Eh? Eh!
Seriously though, thanks again for all that you do.

The Big Bird Award
The annual award for the friendliest MOTLer sees a handful of great characters this year; the nominees were Jazaray, MeddlingMage & ronandaggy.
There was a write-in vote for Tranderas for The Big Bird.
And, much like the award before it, this award sees two of the nominees being tied for either second or last--congratulations to MeddlingMage & ronandaggy!
Which paves the way for the re-capturing of her rightfully yellow & feathered crown. Congratulations Jazaray! In one of the biggest landslides of the vote, MOTL shows that it appreciates the return of the most missed member of 2007.

The Marlboro Award
This award goes out to the member voted by MOTLers to have the best sig. This year saw a battle of functionality against humor against clever, as BoltBait looked to defend his title against the wit contained in Jazaray's sig and the humor from Liq's.
The runner-up for the best sig of 2008 is Liq. Congratulations Liq--I lol'd.
But of course, in the end, MOTLers (as most) will choose function over form, practicality over reading the same joke every post. So, for the third year now, congratulations to BoltBait, the recipient of the Marlboro award!

The Trnothr Award
I wonder sometimes if this award should be renamed for the sake of relevance--I know it's a nice thought to remember a guy who was known for blowing up posts with controversy, but at the same time, maybe something fresh.
Then again, I was like 18 before I knew that Nobel was actually a person and not just five letters randomly strung together.
Ah well.
This year's nominees for the most electric member were three year champion Goaswerfraiejen, recently-returned former multi-champion PlasteredDragon, and JoshSherman.
Sorry Josh, your history doesn't lend quite as well to adjectives, haha.
The only write-in in this category was GottaLoveElves.
Which is interesting, because last I checked, elves didn't like electricity: it usually does three damage to them, and then they die.
In any case, the current champion has been dethroned in 2008, as Goaswerfraiejen is the runner-up in this category.
But here's a plot twist: neither Josh nor PlasteredDragon nabbed third place, because they each snatched a bit better than a third of the vote to share the award this year!
Congratulations guys, keep lighting up the threads in '09!

The Radiance Award
Like the archangel, or the light bulb, or any luminous body in between; this award is intended for MOTL's brightest member in 2008.
Yes, I'm reusing the same line from the nomination post, because I'm trying to prove that I suck at original thought and that you guys were crazy for nominating me.
But does self-reference make that clever instead?
Agh, less talk, more present.
The nominees in addition to myself (GottaLoveElves, in case you really aren't paying attention), were defending champion yakusoku & electric poster PlasteredDragon.
And, unlike with the Trnothr award, PlasteredDragon does not win, but is a very close runner-up. Great posting, Chuck!
However, like the Trnothr award, two of us will be sharing the award with slightly better than a third of the vote. Congratulations go out to yakusoku, and a slightly confused, but greatly appreciative thanks comes out from me, as we're your Radiance award winners for 2008.
Guess all that school is good for something.

The Homer Simpson Award
"Ohhhh. I have three kids and no money. I wish I had no kids and three money!"
If you didn't laugh at that, it's probably because the nature of constant repetition on the internet makes things less funny rapidly.
But, you'll have to take my word for it that it's hilarious, much like the three nominated MOTLers--ronandaggy, JoshSherman & Our_Benefactors.
In another superclose one vote race (as were refreshingly common this year), Our_Benefactors is the close runner-up who proved that he could really bring the lulz.
However, being the father of a baby girl who may or may not be named Maggie* is always a head start in these awards, so congratulations to ronandaggy, who managed to retain his crown!
* = Actually, in this case it's may not, but who's counting?

The Mike Bullard Award
Whether it be for their inability to bring the lulz, pointless repetition of internet memes, or use of the word "lulz" in the first place, these guys, in contrast to ron, do not bring the funny, and are in fact, quite unfunny in the eyes of MOTLers.
This years nominees were Selvaxri, speechjew, and Bernek77.
I've spoken already about the close nature and number of firsts that we've seen in these awards, and this one brings no exception. With each nominee receiving exactly 33.3333% of the vote, they're all not hilarious.
So, although this is going to leave an interesting dynamic next year when defending champions are auto-nominated, I am nonetheless relegated to crowning all three of Selvaxri, speechjew & Bernek77 as Mike Bullards!
Speaking of unfunny, can we get a seer in here to break the tie in voting?
With credit to nderdog for that joke. I swear.

The Chronicle Award
Anyone want to call out the moderators on extortion?
How about want to give up a kidney to meet a celebrity?
Or, just being an asshat?
If so, punch your application now for The Chronicle Award '09!
The nominees for stupidest banned member were EliteMike, jonathondreamrz & egnecro13777.
The runner-up was jonathondreamrz... who was probably just Danny Cheung anyways.
However, with another one of the biggest victory margins of the awards, EliteMike wins the title as the dumbest MOTLer to face the banhammer in '08, and for good reason. Come on, you knew when I was giving the Coles notes version of why these guys were banned that it'd be the kidney one who won.
Or, at least, I knew.

The Hit & Miss Award
This award doesn't describe people that you like sometimes, nor does it describe sporadic archery talent. It's for the most missed MOTLer of 2008.
The nominees were rockondon, Goaswerfraiejen & flaminio.
There was a write-in for Valmtg in this category, and the voter did leave me wondering how she wasn't mentioned.
However, the voters showed that they missed all of the nominees, first evident in the fact that the runners-up are in fact co-runners up; we miss you Don! We miss you Goaws... Gaos... Michel!
Which leaves only one: with a bit better than ½ of the ballots bearing his name, numismatist flaminio is missed by the most voters!
Congratulations are in order, but we'd settle for you coming back, Bob!

Okay, so, I lied. It's been like, two days since I typed the intro, and I've had at least two night's sleep and a nap since.
Consider this your intermission/transition material from the bulk of the awards to the two groups of awards.

The ________ In The ________ Awards
These awards are goofy awards with statements about your fellow MOTLers, meant for a bit of fun.
Not too much though.
Nope.
As always, I'll keep interstitial commentary and congratulatory remarks to a minimum on this one; the post is long as it is and the statements speak for themselves.

The first blank deals with modship of dear ol' MOTL, and the members most likely to attain said modship.
The nominees were PlasteredDragon, GottaLoveElves & iccarus.
There was a write-in for MeddlingMage.
2) "And your newest mod for MOTL is iccarus!"
1) "And your newest mod for MOTL is GottaLoveElves!"
I appreciate the recognition of my character muchly guys, thanks!
Even if this is like, the fourth time. haha

The second blank deals with MOTLers who excel at the M part of MOTL: Magic.
The nominees were wrshp666, MAB_Rapper & JoshSherman.
2) “Wow, look, coolio is playing on the Magic pro tour!”
1) “Wow, look, MAB_Rapper is playing on the Magic pro tour!”
The system works! The panel accidentally snubs a great player, and MOTL speaks up and gives him ¼ of the vote for a recognition. Sorry coolio, and congratulations MAB!

The third blank could be called the most interesting MOTLer award; it's intended for the MOTLer you'd most like to watch on TV.
The nominees here were Tha Gunslinga, implode & GottaLoveElves.
There were write-in votes for both Selvaxri & pyr0ma5ta here. And honestly MOTL, does either Mimi Bobeck or Mike Bullard need to be back on TV?
T2) “Hey, implode has his own TV show!”
T2) “Hey, GottaLoveElves has his own TV show!”
1) “Hey, Tha Gunslinga has his own TV show!”
Apparently, violence sells. Or, at least, guns do.
Congrats Gunslinga!

The fourth blank is the cliché that I had to indulge in when I created these awards. 'Nuff said.
The nominees here were Ml490, puregoblinboy47 & pyr0ma5ta.
2) “Hello, I’m Ml490 and I’m an alcoholic.”
1) “Hello, I’m pyr0ma5ta and I’m an alcoholic.”
In soviet MOTL, drunk troll accidentally you!
Yeah, I got nothing. Stay off the sauce, pyr0!

The fifth blank could perhaps equate to angriest MOTLer, if we're going to keep going with allegories (which we will, since I'm the one writing).
The nominees for this blank were Tha Gunslinga, Selvaxri and speechjew.
There were two write-ins here as well; skizzikmonger & pyr0ma5ta.
2) “Welcome back to Channel 6 news, I’m Kent Brockman. In local news, police have finally gunned down speechjew from his murderous rampage.”
1) “Welcome back to Channel 6 news, I’m Kent Brockman. In local news, police have finally gunned down Selvaxri from his murderous rampage.”
I said it last year, and I'll say it again this year; him & Slinga really are trading that award from year to year. Good job on not shooting anyone yet guys!

The sixth blank is simply the MOTLer considered both likely to next face the banhammer.
The nominees were speechjew, pyr0ma5ta & Ml490.
There were write-ins here for ch3ckm4t3 & Leshrac.
2) “OMGWTFLOLBBQ, pyr0ma5ta just got bant good!”
1) “OMGWTFLOLBBQ, speechjew just got bant good!”
Perhaps this win will coindice with the fifth blank? Either way, with two self-votes, it seems that speechjew knows his possible fate.
...
HE'S A WITCH! BURN HIM!

The Spool Awards
This is the section for MOTLers who are prominent in certain threads.

The first spool is for Captain N, the UBB Gamer among us.
I will note that Jazaray's daughter Amala is not a MOTLer & is therefore ineligible to win. I say that mostly because her werewolf-radar would make her a guaranteed winner and I don't want to leave members out.
Maybe when she's older!
The nominees for this spool were GottaLoveElves, MeddlingMage & Liq.
I'm officially the only MOTLer to place fourth in a category with three nominees, as BoltBait had a write-in on this one due to his V3CB prowess, and I got shut out.
I lol'd.
This is another of those wildly close votes I spoke of earlier--with a single vote less than 50%, this year's runner up is last year's Captain N. Well played, MeddlingMage!
And, with that, breaking MOTL's incarnation of mafia has officially earned Liq the title of Captain N. Great job, Liq!

The second spool is for the MVP, MOTL's most knowledgable sports guy.
The nominees here were speechjew, daner & JoshSherman.
There was a write-in spool for nderdog.
The runner up for this year's MVP spool was JoshSherman, who distanced himself well from third place.
...But was distanced from this year's new reigning MVP daner! Congrats Dane; you had my vote on account of my not seeing a sports thread for anything yet without you in it! Keep gambling in '09!

The third spool is for Judge Judy, the MOTLer most effective at giving rulings for Magic: The Gathering.
The nominees here were orcishartillery, JoshSherman, caquaa & WestWycke. You did read that right; we decided that to exclude any of these folks would be a slap in the face, so we included all four and broke pace a little.
If you didn't notice, then mission accomplished!
In yet another one-vote race in the awards, Judge Judy's runner up was JoshSherman.
Like last year, the winner this year is last year's runner-up. If you can pick the logical implications out of that sentence, you might be WestWycke, MOTL's '08 Judge Judy!

The fourth spool is for Siskel &/or Ebert, the member who best knows his/her movies.
The nominees were revenger, PlasteredDragon & BoltBait.
In like the 873rd one-vote, down-to-the-wire race, your runner up (which, IMO, would be Roeper!) was BoltBait.
And, coming in out of a dead heat is revenger, MOTL's movie buff for '08!
I was going to try and come up with a movie quote to say congratulations, but I'll leave that to someone who actually knows movies, I think. haha

The fifth spool is for MOTL's Rolling Stone of 2008. Not the oldest member who should probably have retired 20 years ago, mind you, but the music know-it-all.
The nominees for this category were potm, GottaLoveElves & cerberus.
And, without the boon of posting a few thousand word essay on the best albums of last year, GottaLoveElves (AKA me) will be the Rolling Stone runner up this year.
Paving way for yet another split award; both potm and cerberus roll into sharing this award for 2008, and well deserved too, says I.
Congratulations guys!

The Kings/Queens of MOTL
This is the part we've all waited for: you guys want to know who gets MOTL's crown as favorite poster of 2008.
And, I know that sometimes in awards ceremonies (such as this one), the presenter will build both speculation and anticipation by making some mention of the fact that there's a new champion, or a surprise ahead.
But I wouldn't do a thing like that.
The MOTLers who received votes, but not enough to runner-up were (in ascending order): Bugger, RoddyVR, Thanos, Ml490, super324, coolio, *Tedman*, Our_Benefactors, iccarus, speechjew, Woolly Spider, JoshSherman, WeedIan, Tha Gunslinga, puregoblinboy47 & closest of all, last year's king/queen, ronandaggy.
Since the theme of the '08 MOTL Awards thus far seems to have been closeness in voting, let's do some more of that. Tied for sixth on this list were both pyr0ma5ta & MeddlingMage!
In fifth is MOTL's favorite toothless, married old guy--I can say that because he already did--here's PlasteredDragon!
Next up, we'll do another tie. Together in third place we have MOTL's dynamic duo of mod kickassery--BoltBait & nderdog! Great job on your posting as well as your contributions and moderating, guys!
All alone in second place is the first MOTLer since nderdog's victory in '05 to see a name grace better than half of the ballots. Go me! GottaLoveElves is your kinger-up this year for MOTL's crowning posting achievement, and is, as always, very grateful for the recognition!
However, I have to ramble about this year's winner. Speaking of numbercrunching and percentages, I remember that I marvelled in the very first MOTL Awards at the fact that HanSolo6385 got his name onto 74% of ballots, thinking that it was unlikely that anyone would eclipse that. The last few years have increasingly supported that hypothesis, as I mentioned that I'm the first one in three years to break 50% in the Kings category.
But, if this lengthy introduction of your winner hasn't quite hinted to you that things have changed, I don't know what will.
With an astonishing 79% of ballots bearing her name, we have MOTL's first queen to win this award... proof that we meant it when we said we missed her in '07! Congratulations, Jazaray!

Annnnnd, that's that. Another year in the books, and if I do say so myself, it was a good year both in terms of the content/progression of the discussion forums, and for the closeness and spirit of these awards. I noted that voter turnout was up--it still hasn't reached the levels that it hit in the first year or two, but it certainly marked a turnaround.
For that, I definitely at least partially credit the nomination panel/process, and you can rest assured that it will stay in the future. It was a huge help to me, as well as to most voters.
A note on next year, you've no worries; the panel discussion on nominees will definitely have much more notice and be much better moderated/better flowing. It was a real freewheeling kind of thing this year, where I gave myself an hour's notice and honestly only used half of that to make notes. We'll do a moderated chat next year where I promise to keep on task.
Maybe.
But yes, it will be held together with much better consideration than the gum & popsicle sticks that I ended up using this year.

Also, my apologies for the use and overuse of italics. You only get 10 smileys per post, and anyone who reads my non-WW posting or chats with me knows that that's a ridiculous expectation. So I have to point out my jokes and emphasis somehow. Don't I?

Feel free to discuss some new award ideas here as well. I know that a Rising Star-type award was considered for a poster who just came onto the scene in '08, but we really didn't have that much time to patch it together. That idea, among others, will be gladly considered.

This makes 7 years that I've done these awards, and although it's harder than it once was to find the time, I still really enjoy every aspect of it. I'll close this post the same way that I always do; I want to offer my thanks to the following:
BoltBait, nderdog, Jazaray, MeddlingMage, MAB_Rapper, JoshSherman, Woolly_Spider, implode, Liq, puregoblinboy47 & pyr0ma5ta for showing up to discuss the deservers of these awards in #motl. And two thanks to anyone I might've left off that list, both for showing up and a pre-emptive thanks for not cursing my name into the dirt for the crappiness of my memory.
JoshSherman a second time; his contribution and helpful link-saving have a direct correlation to the Chronicle Award being possible, considering that after the nomination chat, it had been decided to be scrapped.
coolio, for being my secret santa target, and not yelling at me for accidentally snubbing him in the nominations for his Magic: The Gathering prowess.
Leshrac, for his initial (and presumably continued) monies, energies and other words ending in -ies to keep MOTL kicking. The mods and inca for their time, as well.
Anyone who's ever clicked the Paypal donate button here (or anywhere else) for supporting a cause of sorts.
Anyone who reads this post and has said kind words about the efforts of the whole thing, because although I do take intrinsic enjoyment from organizing this thing and in writing it up, I also do revel in the few days of thanks and attention that it spawns. Nice to be able to look back and say "Hey, I gave a few strangers on the internet something to read, and made some of them feel good about themselves." Seriously!
Everyone ever, because I doubt there's a person in existence who hasn't been snubbed for a thanks that they deserved at one point or another--so here's a free one! No strings attached, honest! Take it!

Congratulations again to all the winners, best of luck to you all in 2009, and you know where I'll be next year this time!
Thanks for reading!

Wow a write in for Mod?
Runner up to Liq was expected in Capt N, seeing as I DM'ed games instead of played them.
Big Bird and King votes.
Thanks to all who voted/wrote for me.
Thanks Tony for a job well done!

so i'm 1/3 unfunny (can we get a playoff system!?!?!?!?!), 2nd most likely to get shot down after I murder the unfunny likes of Wanda Sykes, Ray Romano, Bernek, and Carlos Mencia, most likely to get banned for defending free speech and calling mods fascist, the bronze in the MVP, and the Dennis Kucinich of the King/Queen awards.

Not a bad haul.

GLE, thanks for all the effort you put into this, that was a fun read.

Those of you who voted me for the trnothr award, thanks! Those who didn't, die in a fire. (Sorry, just being controversial.)

And being a fifth place King (or Queen) makes me like what, the guy in charge of the royal stables? I'll take it. Thanks everybody!

Special congrats to Jazzy Jaz--hereby promoted from MOTL's Mom to the Queen Mother of MOTL. So, as they say, "To the Queen!"

MAB_Rapper was completely owned by MeddlingMage here. Continual pwnage of skizzikmonger and ch3ckm4t3 is old hat. No single pwnage really stands up to my link. But hey, what do I know? I only own half a Trnothr Award. On a side note- how does one pronounce Ari's screen name? I always went with "Trothnor" even though I knew it was wrong.

Congrats, PD. You've mellowed a bit since your return, which is why I suspect I was able to encroach on half your territory

Tony- is that short for Antonio?- I must say, you did a great job again. It was fun to read

speechjew should have been almost unamimous for Mike Bullard. That "manly" or whatever the hell it was was total bull****. That's unfunny. selvaxri is downright pathetic at times. And Bernak77 is an amateur comparatively speaking.

All in all, I'd say I had a banner year, and I'm looking forward to kicking most of your asses again this year

Big thanks to GLE for his hard work on this.

I was hoping for a mention this year with the sig since I quoted nder in #motl. Apparently the Server being Overloaded has to do with me when it comes to MOTL.

I've been trying ever year for UBB Gamer since my first nomination for the Award for my greatest game in Mafia. I'm really glad to have won it this year. I'll try harder to win more V3CB tournaments in the coming year.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the votes.

It really means a lot for me to win the Proton Award. Hopefully, next year I'll add even more!

And, thanks for all the King votes. You guys/gals are the best! "You really like me!" (tears up)

I'll be doing nothing but watching movies in 2009 in preparation for next year's vote. PD and revenger I'm going to give you a fight next year!

Thanks again, all!

FAKE EDIT: My sig would also like to thank you for all the votes. He's just trying to be helpful... so, that means a lot to him.

oh, I wasn't nominated b/c of that, I don't think.

but my banning nomination, that was clearly b/c of that.

Congrats to everyone on their awards.

Congrats, PD. You've mellowed a bit since your return, which is why I suspect I was able to encroach on half your territory

Tony- is that short for Antonio?- I must say, you did a great job again. It was fun to read

All in all, I'd say I had a banner year, and I'm looking forward to kicking most of your asses again this year

I laugh at that every single time.

For future builds of the awards. I think we need to give some other awards out. I said it before - like a newcomer/rookie of the year award. The person who has made their presence felt while being relatively new type of deal.
That or I just want to be nominated for something, like biggest meathead or something. My problem is, I read all the threads, and start typing up a response, but then decide against it, as I feel it is stupid. Eh, guess I gotta start making input as output...(bad joke).

Another award idea: Craziest Thread Topic. There have been some crazy threads over the past year. You know, you get the ones about 11th edition, post for stuff, etc. but I'm talking the "Holy S*** did they just create that topic" type deal.

I know Jaz would stick up for me on the post I created about my girlfriend and I's relationship. I wonder if that is archived. I just remember it being almost impossible to discuss the situation using completely non-provacative language. Made for an interesting thread.

The Man-Law thread was also one that could be nominated.

Um... okay. Mostly all I've done is scream at people in the politics threads...

Anyways, Congratulations to the twenty or so tied (or three-way tied) champions of these awards, even the champions of awards that are less accolades and more insults. Congratulations especially to ch3ckm4t3 for winning the Stronghold; it takes effort to snatch it from Skizzikmonger like you did.

To start, I'd like to thank GLE for running these awards. I can honestly say that I start looking forward to these around every October. The time and effort you put into it really shines and is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for the split music award along with potm. I can't remember if I've actually won a category before (I don't think I have). I like the fact that I can share it with someone who has recommended SO MUCH music to me, whether he knows it or not. A big thank you to all of you who continue to post on the music threads. I can't tell you how much just the "Song in Your Head" thread has broadened my musical interest over the years.

Thanks again, and good luck to all in 2009.

dunno about that.. I did play fae for block with a huge air of cockiness, but that's only because I can pilot that list while completely unconscious. will say though, not day 2'ing at denver with the 3 rd bye i won fri night did suck majorly.. (last time i listen to my friend and up the land count from 24 to 25, somehow, 1 more land destroyed the consistent non screwed draws, go fig that one) we'll c if I can make day 2 at LA.. one step at a time.. or rather.. 1 rd at a time.. aim is to x-2 for day 2.. then x-1 rd by rd for the t16 for honolulu Q

©

edit: on a side note GLE, do I auto win for '09 if I manage to Q and go to a PT this yr?

would it be that shocking? we have members here that played on the PT, and did fairly well too.

I will also say it was fun to sit in with some pros (Nassif, Sadin, Finkel, Parke who came in 2nd, and a few others) when they were going over 5cc's boarding options on the eve of the standard portion. props to them for not outright dismissing my boarding choices with fae vs 5cc as my local friends did.. saying "that's stupid, you cant win if you board like that" (which in reality, i think were right) but actually listening to reasons and weighing them (and agreeing!!)

AWESOME Job GLE! I too start looking forward to this around October. Thanks everyone for all the votes!!! I mean, I knew I had a pretty good chance at Big Bird, but I never thought I'd actually win the King/Queen award!!! Wow!

I'm also glad that people like my specially made PD Original Limerick enough that I got nominated!

Amala was also VERY happy to be mentioned , although it's now making her more anxious than ever to be allowed on MOTL!

speechjew: This IS the "playoffs"..

Heh, I almost miss The Idiot Chronicles thread. Soooo many idiots, and they can only be recognized once a year.

Perhaps a "Gone, but not forgotten" type of thread, for the most missed banned member would be interesting. I, myself miss Iabtu and Iakae.

Anyways, thanks again GLE for all the effort and dedication you put into this.

Thanks,
Queen Jazaray (heh heh )

Can't believe I forgot to thank you for doing this in my previous post, GLE. I'll personally give you a round of e-applause for all your hard work.

And no, I'm not trying to get the Mike Bullard award next year, although 'e-applause' is admittedly a really, really, really bad joke.

Revenger's's Acceptance Speech for the Best Series of Special Effects Passing as a Story Motl Movie Buff award:

Thank you! Oh! Thank you! I can hardly conjugate verbs! I feel so horny! And this statue - it's so shiny! Oh, thank you again! I just want everyone to read in the tabloids that even in my wildest hallucinations, I never would have frantically prayed that this could ever validate my mediocrity. And to the other super-amazing nominees, I want each of you to know how totally wonderful your lackluster applause makes me feel right now!

You know when they first told me I was nominated, I just had to take a Xanax and obsess about how generous my experiences have been. I guess it all just makes me feel kinda special

You know, there are so many blood-sucking stalkers to thank! First off though, I want to pay off the glorified prostitutes, who looked deep within their Magic 8-Balls before giving me this fantastic award! Also, I want to thank Charleton Heston, for being such a powerful force in my loins. And to the hooker with the heart of gold, who taught me to take life by the fifth of bourbon. And finally, to all the illegitimate children I sired - I couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you Motl, and good night!

----------------

In all seriousiness, I am truly thankful for the nomination and award. GLE, not sure if I had reminded you via email or not that this would have happened!

I managed to fish up an old iteration using the wayback machine once, so I could nab the old code no problem.
The reason I'm not sold on the return is that it was alot less funny when I saw it recently than it was when I used to write it. I'm sure that has something to do with the fact that I'm a little more mature, but I'd still like to/be willing to reinstate it if there was interest in having it.

I think that's how he won his.

QFT^30. That's why I've really pushed for the linking-to-every-song thing as of late, I think it'd encourage more people to broaden like we have.
That, and I'm lazy and it's easier if I just have to click it rather than GrooveShark it.

You were the only '08 registration we could think of for the Rising Star type award I mentioned earlier. Sure, you yell at people in the politics thread, but some people do like people who do that, ya know.

I often do the same. I hate debates where there really isn't a right answer (read: most debates), and I also hate arguing on the internet when it can be avoided, so I find myself excluding myself from some of MOTL's posts sometimes because I don't feel it worth it to chime in my 2ø.
Also in response to you, new award suggestions are always welcome. There hasn't been an award added in two years, but the first 5 or 6 iterations all saw something new or changed every year. If we get a discussion going about that and get a definition that seems fun and/or votable, I'm game.
