Check it out here!EDH is now being changed into a format called commander. The good thing is that Wizards is NOT taking total control over it, just promoting it. New decks are being made for commander by Wizards and is composed of five different hundred-card decks, with no card other than basic lands appearing more than once per deck. There are a total of 51 new Magic cards spread across them. And each deck comes with three foil oversized versions of legends that also appear as regular cards in the deck. The 51 new cards will be legal in Eternal formats (that's Vintage and Legacy), but they will not be legal in Standard, Extended, or Block Constructed. Dragonhighlander.net has also now become mtgcommander.net and it shows a spoiler of one of the new generals (possibly a replacement for Teneb Release Date: June 17, 2011 MSRP: $29.99 Languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish Design: Ken Nagle (Lead), Mark Gottlieb, Scott Larabee, Ryan Miller, Mark Purvis Development: Mark Globus (Lead), Peter Knudson, Erik Lauer, Ryan Miller, Lee Sharpe Launch Parties: June 17-19, 2011 (at participating WPN locations) Personally, I dislike the name change, but the decks will be kinda cool.
Oh, there is also an article that Aaron Forsythe wrote here EDIT: Just realized this is in the post for magic stuff, dang. Well, this explains it a little more. __________________ Quote: Do or do not, there is no try.

Yeah, I added that as an edit, didn't see it. At least this way the people who don't look at that will see this.

i like the commandeer idea but the fact that they are making cards just for the archtype, cards that have no purpose in standard or anything is just plain Stupid

Would you rather they printed cards that were useful in Standard or other formats, but only available as a 1-of in a $30 theme deck?

as an avid casual multiplayer lover.... I like it when they print ANY new cards. The fact that they are aimed towards EDH/Commander, just means that whoever thought of doing that at wizards is probably going to get a raise rofl.

learn to play vintage and legacy then. These cards they are printing are designed for a 40 life 100 card singleton multiplayer format. I don't think their power level or mana cost will be anything that sees constructed play any how.

I agree that cards that can't be used in any standard or format except Edh/commander is wrong in the regard of that is too much money for specialized cards. You want to specialize cards, replace the token with one of these cards, that to me sounds fair.To me 51 Cards does not equal $30.00

Sounds like some of you are confused about what 'standard' means. Standard is a constructed format that only uses cards from the last 2 expansion sets. These exclusive cards are not legal for Standard or Extended tournament play. They are, however, legal for Legacy and Vintage, and are obviously allowed for a casual format. Its just like getting cards in the Duel Decks. You cant play most of the Jace vs Chandra cards in standard, this isn't any different.

I doubt any of the new cards from Commander decks will be strong enough to see play in standard anyway. Aside from staples a lot of stuff doesn't see any looks in other formats. And I don't expect each deck is going to be filled with staples either. Maybe Duplicant or Lightning Greaves but nothing too otherworldly. __________________ 2nd Most References in Massachusetts (Moving pays off I guess.)My Blog: http://wings0298.blogspot.com/
