I am going to the local store and they have a pretty big selection of booster to choose from and I was wondering what would be like the top three boosters to buy. Exluceding really expenseive ones Next question should I just buy a box of Scars or go aheads and buy different boosters. This is a pretty Noob like question and I realise that.

if you want to build a collection, play limited (sealed/draft). __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? [16:18] <@BrassMan> gush is unrestricted [19:01] <nderEvo> you can delete yourself

Who do you play with? Kitchen table or gaming store? Standard, extended, legacy, or unrestricted casual? Do you play in tournaments? If you're looking to get into the tournament scene, research different decks and buy the singles for it. When you're sick if it, trade off the pieces to make a new deck. If you just want lots of random cards for kicks, try to buy a collection off eBay, here, craigslist, or someone at your store. If you like to draft and have people to do so with at home, go ahead and buy a box. Buying random packs and opening them for kicks gets you boxes full of random cards that are useless to you and sit next to your bed collecting dust. It can be exciting, sure, but unless you're just substituting cracking packs for an existing scratch-off lottery habit, don't waste your money. __________________ seancperry on MTGO

Honestly, your best bet is eBay then. You can get tons of bulk cards for relatively cheap going that route. For example, I regularly sell giant boxes of 6000 bulk commons/uncommons with rares added in for less than the cost of 1 booster box. Others have similar deals. __________________ Ebay User ID: PortlisX (1100+ 100% pos Feedback) My Current Ebay Auctions

Maybe you should take that money and buy a revised or unlimited underground sea. Then trade it away here for type 2 cards at a premium.

Shop online for besiege boxes if you want, the going price for a pre-order should be around $85-$90 shipped. Anything more than $95 is overpaying.

The other nice side effect of playing in limited formats is that the more experienced players will often give you teh cards they don't need after the draft is over. You wont likely pick up too many rares but it is an easy way to not only get better but to start building up that collection.

I'd check to see if they have Worldwake and if they realize that the boxes have gone way up recently.

just think of all the money we all dumped into drafts, packs, singles over the years lolif we could get all that back and reinvest into magic we would all probly have full P9 sets and all the other goodies haha

I personally think drafting is a terrible way for a starter to build up a collection. Unless you're really talented and a really fast learner, you will not win any draft early on. You'll end up getting bulk rare picks that are worth a quarter each. Plus, it takes forever to build up a decent size collection with only drafts. The only reason you might want to draft is to learn at getting better in playing magic.

you're making the assumption that they redraft rares. We redraft rares on our friendly drafts that we hold on Tuesdays because we discount the entry, but for Fridays we have an increased entry cost and there is prize support so rares are not redrafted. Getting better at evaluating magic cards is a great reason to draft. Sometimes you get passed rares that are decent and it makes it worth while as well.

I'm tired of the same old, same old advice of "go draft!" or "buy a collection!". I have friends who like opening packs. I say: Let them do it.With that in mind, if you like opening packs, buy whatever you want. In terms of good/valuable rares, the Time Spiral block and Ravnica block have a good number of good cards, including a lot of fun casual cards. Original Mirrodin isn't bad, though not if you don't want a lot of mostly chaff artifact cards. Champions of Kamigawa was a decent set, but avoid Betrayers and Saviours as they are both full of bad. Avoid Lorwyn and Alara unless you really really like tribal. Same with Onslaught. Zendikar is OK. Worldwake has Jace2 in it and not much else. Rise of Eldrazi has a lot of fun cards, as does Scars. M11 has quite a few chase rares and has much better commons/uncommons than some of the older core sets (8th = ugh). I'd recommend waiting until the new set comes out in a couple weeks and buy that. It's got the best trade bait. In the end, just skim the card set lists and see if there's a good number of cards you want in those sets. If there is, get them.

My advice: Find sealed pre-releases and releases at a local store. And do drafts. I often dump all the cards I use after the draft to the store and let the kids that play T2 take the cards they need. I keep whatever is worth money and sell it myself. __________________ -Schmitty 5th in Refs [188] in OH-IO (Catching up to xion_black) 2nd in Posts [5494] in OH-IO (Have a long way to go to catch Val)

Boxes are $80 each, lands are $1 each. 36 lands != $80. Try again. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? [16:18] <@BrassMan> gush is unrestricted [19:01] <nderEvo> you can delete yourself

Silly kiddie... Unhinged lands are $2.00 a piece(swamps, mountains and islands can go for $3-4 sometimes ; foil can range from 5-12 depending on basic type.
Were do you get your $1.00 figure? Zendikar lands?
