Had the same issue and I just aired it out for 2-3 days.

I washed a playmat in the washer on the gentle cycle with a lil Tide, let it airdry, it came out fine.

Similar note, does anyone have any experience cleaning the felt spell ground mats? I have one that had a slight food stain on it, I used just some water on a sponge and rubbed it and it came out. I later noticed that the part that got wet left a ring on it. I assume its just dirt that migrated into the ring while it was wet and I might soak it and let it dry hanging next time instead of flat, but its the 1998 world champ mat so it has lettering and such on it so I don't want to damage it.
