Newly-edited, as the fresh post was (rightly) called out:I wrote a web app to help you choose the right lands for your deck when you specify your Commander's color identity: duals, lands with special abilities, man lands, and so forth. See it here: http://mcgees.org/magic-land-chooser/ I've incorporated a bunch of suggestions from people, and more feedback would be awesome. This will always be free. Enjoy! Original: I've found, now that I'm playing EDH, that I'm considering running many of the second- and third-tier duals/fetches that I never have before. I don't necessarily know their names or availability off the top of my head, though.Soooo -- from the common programming motive of "write what you need, then share it", I wrote some scripts to help identify such lands, provide useful links and images, etc. It's a self-link, of course, but the web app is here: http://mcgees.org/dual-land-chooser/ I'd love feedback. If I'm missing any cards, or if you think I should change the names of categories, the links I provide, or have any other comments or ideas please let me know. Ideally I'll get more people than just me using it.

@AlmostGrown: Yeah, sure did. Thanks -- exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.I fixed it. Everything is generated from a data file, and I had the wrong Mutiverse number in the cell. Is it working for you now? __________________ Help dispel the myth! Chronicles, Anthologies, Beatdown, Deckmasters, and Battle Royale are tournament-legal.

my suggestion would be to maybe have it display the best duals first or the tier one cards , then two and three as you call them.

@Timmyhill: Good idea. I think there would be a little disagreement about ordering in the middle section, but the beginning and end should be pretty clear.... :^)__________________ Help dispel the myth! Chronicles, Anthologies, Beatdown, Deckmasters, and Battle Royale are tournament-legal.

UW and WU are missing Nimbus Maze. This is a great idea, thanks for making it.__________________ Ebay problems? File a claim, leave a neg, buy on MOTL.

I know there are quite many, but maybe adding all the non-basics that would fit into each color schemes also. It looks great so far, and I'm sure many many people will appreciate it.

You're missing the badfilters from Odyssey. And the Shadowmoor goodfilters.

Perhaps you could also put in a spot for artifacts, and include the mirrodin talismans and guildpact signets?__________________ send ref checks, paypal payment or any questions to the email in my profile! Serra Angel Count: 235 Nightmare Count: 95

@sammyt125 @'Slinga @Volcanon @zfeldmeier: Thanks, added. Can anyone think of others I'm missing?@farsk8dutch: Yep, that is already slated as the next project. @AlmostGrown: I'm not sure this is something I'd like to do -- but if an enterprising soul wants to do it, I'll probably use it.... And in general: Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I must admit a part of me feared I'd post this alpha software (you can tell it's alpha software because it has very round corners, you see) and get responses of "zOMG this suxx!!1!" Needlessly, it turns out. Thanks for being classy. __________________ Help dispel the myth! Chronicles, Anthologies, Beatdown, Deckmasters, and Battle Royale are tournament-legal.

I can't code, but if you want I could make a list of the aforementioned artifacts. And I second the Ravnica Karoo lands, they're an auto include IMO.__________________ send ref checks, paypal payment or any questions to the email in my profile! Serra Angel Count: 235 Nightmare Count: 95

@zfeldmeier: Whoops, regression error. Nice catch. Fixed. @Havoc_Demon @AlmostGrown: Yeah, they're auto-includes for me, too. The way I was searching Oracle hid them from me, and I (strangely) forgot about them. @AlmostGrown: Thanks for the offer. If you can put the data into a spreadsheet template (Excel/OpenOffice/whatever) that I give you, I'll do the artifacts. Contact me by email if you are willing to do that, please.I've been thinking more about the ranking-by-best, and I don't think that's realistic. For one thing we'd never agree, and for another it (naturally) depends on the kind of deck one is playing. I mean, Savannah is always better than Veldt -- but, say, is life loss a big deal in your deck? Do you have a lot of use for colorless mana, or no use? Are you playing the right creature type for a tribal land? And so on. Thoughts? __________________ Research the right dual lands for your deck: http://mcgees.org/dual-land-chooser/

Possible to implement something similar to Apathy House card fight and determine rankings from that.__________________ Collecting Time Sieve. If you know who has the original art please let me know.

Oh, by the way, I have a couple of other script packages I've developed.First is one that takes Apprentice .dec format files (EssentialMagic can output these) for one or more decks and turns them into want lists for MOTL. Like, if you have this: code:
// Creatures 1 Spincrusher 1 Steel Hellkite 1 Assault Zeppelid 1 Birds of Paradise
... and in another .dec file, this ... code:
// Creatures 1 Coiling Oracle 1 Birds of Paradise 1 Cold-Eyed Selkie 1 Llanowar Elves 1 Dormant Gomazoa 1 Elvish Piper
It will turn it into this: code:
1x Assault Zeppelid (DIS[C]) 2x Birds of Paradise (10E[R];2ED[R];3ED[R];4ED[R];5ED[R];6ED[R];7ED[R];8ED[R];LEA[R];LEB[R];M10[R];M11[R];PRO[R];RAV[R]) 1x Coiling Oracle (DIS[C]) 1x Cold-Eyed Selkie (EVE[R]) 1x Dormant Gomazoa (ROE[R]) 1x Elvish Piper (10E[R];7ED[R];8ED[R];9ED[R];M10[R];UDS[R]) 1x Llanowar Elves (10E[C];2ED[C];3ED[C];4ED[C];5ED[C];6ED[C];7ED[C];9ED[C];LEA[C];LEB[C];M10[C];M11[C];PRO[R]) 1x Spincrusher (DST[U]) 1x Steel Hellkite (SOM[R])
It can output fields in different order (like putting 'x1' on the end instead of '1x' at the beginning), leave out rarity information, spell out whole set names, or group by set -- that sort of thing. It will do the output above for all available sets, and if there are editions you won't consider, you delete those entries (like to take out the ugly '3ED[R]' Birds....) Second, I have a script that can take a number of wants and optimize a shopping basket on CardShark across multiple sellers such that you pay the least including shipping. This one took some reading of hard-core math research papers to write and optimize, by the way. Would there be any interest in either of these? The former I could turn into another web app where you just had to cut-and-paste stuff into a text field. Or I could give it to MOTL to host? {waves @The Gunslinga} The latter I couldn't host, due to the combinatorial explosion -- calculating for six cards can take 45 minutes, even with my optimizations -- but for one set of six cards it found a cart 40% cheaper (!) than what I had been able to do by hand. Maybe I could package that one into a redistributable binary (a .exe or equivalent) so people could use their own clock cycles.... Mountain Valley shows up for "WR"BTW, you might want to expand to tri-color lands and 5-color lands.

Fixed, thanks. One thing I was thinking about that would address both @farsk8dutch's and @Volcanon's ideas would be to have a multiselect wherein you CTRL-click to choose what combination of the five colors you are using, then it would show all the lands that produced a subset of those. Would that be too unwieldy? Thoughts? __________________ Research the right dual lands for your deck: http://mcgees.org/dual-land-chooser/

That's what I was really hoping for when I checked out the site due to the fact my EDH uses Tetsuo Umezawa. Other then that you got something good going on here. Also what about River of Tears I don"t see that one.

Tetsuo is a cool idea for a commander! Twiddle and icy effects, plus other assassins? Nifty. OK, I'll work on the multiselect idea. I'll try to have a demo today. Should I include lands that only produce colorless in every color combination (Desert, Library, etc.), leave them out, or make one select "Colorless" as an option in the multiselect to display them? I'm leaning towards the last. __________________ Research the right dual lands for your deck: http://mcgees.org/dual-land-chooser/

Last option, in my opinion. __________________ #1 in posts from Brazil!#3 in Refs from Brazil; Got any Portuguese Foils? Post on my list or email me at valter.cid@gmail.com !

Yeah the multiselect idea is great. You could go as far as to seperate the colorless ones that don't produce mana like Library and maze of ith. Also maybe categories for man-lands and such.__________________ Counter Power ART
