Hey guys, The real reason I want to ask this question is I was looking over ebay and found some of these. I got some from a seller and was just recently looking for some more on ebay. (I know their history in that there are not that many ever made) I found the same seller selling them and got curious. Look at their sell history:]http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=fashi onposse&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true My question is, how on earth did this person get so many? Just wanted to hear some opinions.

He probably brought/traded for them while they where somewhat cheaper? He was a tournament/FNM cordinator or shop employee with access to extras? Any number of reasons to have (15); which is not that many. __________________ Bargain is not to powerful for EDH, EDH is to weak for Bargain!

More than 15, I think some were given away at some event at Nationals in the US or something like that.

I understand that there was more than 15 printed. I thought roughly 1,000. But this single person has 15 + more. I messaged her and she said that her boss just tells her to put them on ebay as he gets them from someone at WoTC.

Easily over 15. I know I went to a PTQ in Chicago during Lorwyn Block Constructed and they gave one away to each of the top 8 people (I know, I made top 8). They also were going to do another Mutavault tourney a few weeks after that too IIRC. So, that, including the non-U.S. states/champs, there are quite a bit more than 15 floating around. It's probably hard to find because of the collectors :-\

I have no knowledge as to what the actual print run was for them, but if we assume your numbers are correct, that wouldn't surprise me. It's not at all uncommon for rarer cards to clump up in single collection, especially if it's a dealer.

He/she probably tried to grab as many as possible when they first came out. I'm impressed too, as I haven't even seen five of these in person, let alone 10-15+ __________________ Most References in Massachusetts 86th All-timeSupport my friend's store: http://www.tabletoparena.com

I remember someone on here saying ~180 of them were printed but have no idea if that claim is close to true.

They were intended for use at states. I'm sure a whole lot more then that were printed, just not handed out. There is likely some tucked away somewhere.

After rotating out of T2, there was a period of a few months where Mutavault were ~$10 each. In that period, I saw a few of this full art foil Mutavault put on sale on MOTL, but not many people were interested then. If you are a dealer/collector out to buy this full art foil Mutavault during that "lull period" for Mutavaults, I am sure you can easily buy 10-20 pieces cheaply (relative to today's price). Problem of MTG is, when a card price is falling or stagnant, on one wants to buy as everyone seems to think they will drop even further. When card prices are increasing, few want to sell as many seem to think prices will go up even further.

These Mutavaults were printed as States prizes before the decision that States would be cancelled in US. This suggests that there should be about as many of these printed as there are Niv Mizzets or Dorans. WotC just didn't hand them out, except in Europe and for some premier level TO's as additional prizes for other events. Originally few hundred (~400) were awarded to other countries State top 8's and maybe 100+ as additional prizes in US. So WotC still should have quite a pile of these left.I personally have declined to buy these for my promo collection yet, as I believe these will get the Crystalline Sliver treatment at some point. Of course I might be wrong and need to shell 200$ at some point, but I doubt that. Old promos always surface at some point.

difference being.. the slivers were an fnm promo, vs mutavaults, which were originally designated as a t8 states promo © __________________ Since it is obviously inconceivable that all religions can be right, the most reasonable conclusion is that they are all wrong. -Christopher HitchensReligion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. -Seneca the Younger

Not to mention most of the original fnm crystalline slivers were stolen property. That is why wizards decided to reprint them, since people on the secondary market were making 80 to 100 bucks on them at there peek.

That's actually wrong. I sold several extra copies I had or may not have had at $250 easily.
There were only 40 out there. So, they were pretty rare. Its like the first DCI Disenchant foil going for $1000s

Which US tournaments gave these Mutavault promos out as prizes? I thought these were only given out in Either Japan or England or both.
