I thought all artists are willing to sign cards with no monetary compensation. Are there any elusive artists that demand premium? What cards are examples. I'm just curious

In Barcelona last week John Avon wanted a €1/card premium for ever card over the 10 card limit. I only know of Amy Weber ($0.25) Otherwise: As long as you pay for the stamps and include return envelope with your address your fine. But please: Ask them (nicely) before sending them cards to sign. Not all artist do like to sign cards and might keep it. Check out Thanos'thread here in the forum for more info. __________________ Collecting signed cards. Melissa Benson charges $1 for each signing in person. If you send by mail you need to buy stuff from her.Edit: Markus, on John Avon: Really??? Even if you went back into the line after getting 10, or was that if you wanted more than 10 at a time?

Mike Suffin (the sensei's divining top guy) makes you buy an artist proof from him to sign by mail.

Benson may randomly steal from you. Long story, but ton of shivans I sent her went missing. She then stopped responding to my emails after I inquired about it. This was back during 4th edition, so its old news.

I actually doubt it was funny seeing as how Shivan was like $20+ when 4th was out. I remember, because I was about 11 lol.

Well, it would not be funny if it were someone other than the artist :P

You should always compensate artists for their time if you send them a lot of cards, send them cards all the time, or if you have a lot of cards for them to sign at a show.Buy a proof off of them, you put money in their pocket and get something unique out of it.

I go to GenCon every year. I have also been to Origins several times & most artists I have found don't mind signing a few cards for free. As many know that doing card art for Wizards may be their bread & butter. And often do it as a courtesy while there selling their prints, original work etc. Some I have found will sign only a few for free & then charge. Others will sign as many as you want. Others will sign with the purchase of something. It just varies by artist. For myself however, I usually buy at least something like an artist proof or print or something from each artist I am getting cards signed by. Just a preference thing for me. I know that the artists are there to make some money. So I like to support them when I am getting stuff signed. Especially if an artis is willing to do minor card alters at no charge. Most however will do card alters & play mat doodles/art but for a fee (depending on what you want done) For artists that are at Wizards events like prereleases, GP's, PT's etc. They are usually there sponsored by Wizards and card signing is usually free. Other services like card alters & playmat doodles/art they usually charge a fee. Sometimes not, if it is just a small simple doodle. Again it just depends on the artist. __________________ "Poole" Art Sage Owl count: 227 with 74 Signed and 6 Proofs Also trading for:Extinctions and IA/CS STP's Non Magic: Civillization (SNES), Old Hot Wheels Cars, Stargate SG1/SGA Figurines

Sorry, didn't see you there.. Yeah, he actually did that. Charming guy as always. People didn't requeue much since the lines were AWEFULLY long (waiting 1.5 hours)... __________________ Collecting signed cards. it was likely just to discourage having stacks of 100 land signed and to keep the line moving. Some of those artists like Alexander that do a ton of lands get large piles from individuals and make the line stop moving.

It was exactly the same at GP Dallas. There was a ten (10) card limit. The line was easily 1.5 hours long. John was both charming and friendly.

When you asked if the cards get a premium I thought you ment that they are worth more on the trade tables. My answer to that is no. I will value signed cards less that regulars. Maybe its just me but I cant stand it. Got into a huge fight with someone on Ebay when I bought a playet of Thoughtsieze last year from him and they were all signed. No where was it in the discription and he was like "Well they are worth more signed". Not to me!!!

My experince is that some people value signed cards more, some people value them at less, and a few I've met even consider them automatically to be in "poor" condition but I've never experienced a trade where a signed card demanded a huge value increase in the card(s) being traded on either side.I like signed stuff, but I prefer to get my signed stuff directly from the artist and not in trades. I personally value signed cards in trades at the same value as non-signed cards unless it is an artist whose signature is impossible to get and even then I'm not willing to give a huge premium for it. Cards that I'm collecting as sets I don't want signed at all so I value those less. *EDIT* I have to agree with the "buy something from them" sentiment. If the artist is being nice enough to sign I always buy a few proofs or a print or something from them to show my appreciation.

All the artists I've met in person have been willing to sign cards for free. Some of them even have been willing to alter my play mat for free too. If they don't charge anything for alters I still tip them anyway. __________________ Most References in Massachusetts 85th All-timeSupport my friend's store: http://www.tabletoparena.com
