5-Card Blind (5CB) is a very unique game. The rules are as follows: * Your deck is composed of 5 cards, all of which start in your hand. * You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing). * Random effects always go against the owner of the card. * You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play. * You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card. * You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second. * For each win, you score 3. * For each draw, you score 1. * For each loss, you get nothing. * A subgame played with the card Shahrazad where neither player has any means to win the subgame will result in an incomplete game and both players will receive ZERO points for that game, since the main game cannot be resumed. Neither player loses or draws, so neither player earns any points. * Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC! Remember, it is important for your deck to include a way to cast your cards! (Lands, artifact mana, pitch cards, etc.) If you want to play PM me a message in this format. Subject should include "Vanishing 5-Card Blind" (Just click on the little PM icon above my post and it should work out that way.) Card #1 Card #2 Card #3 Card #4 Card #5 Be sure you really are happy with your deck before you submit. Once you send in a deck, there is no changing it except in the case of an illegal entry. Please make every effort to spell your card names correctly. It makes it easier for everyone. Thanks. The "Vanishing" part is the twist. To start off with, only Unglued, Unhinged and Ante cards are banned. After each round, the 5 cards in the winning deck plus any cards in more than 1/3 of the decks played will be banned for all future rounds. Any lands that only provide mana are exempted from the banning rules.NO MISE DECKS! Any deck submitted MUST have some win condition. Any deck that can do no better than a draw against any possible deck will be rejected. A deck that can't win any game is mathematically eliminated from winning the round, and thus would just be taking a chance to win away from someone who could actually have a shot. ALL players will assist in judging. The way this will work is that after the submission period is over, After all decks are revealed, judge your own deck against every other deck (going first and going second). Post your findings here in this thread. They will be reviewed by everyone for accuracy. Once a winner is determined the winners deck will be added to the banned list and the next round will begin. The decklists have been posted.PLEASE make sure you use the proper deck number for your deck. Replace the '?' on the bottom line with the number next to your name on the decklist. Scoring: Play your deck against each other deck twice, once with you going first, once with them going first. Always remember that each deck is to be played perfectly. For each of the 2 games, score 3 points if your deck wins or 1 point if the game is a draw, with no points for a loss. Some examples: 2 wins (WW) is 6 points. A win and a draw (WD) is 4 points. 1. yakusoku WW On the play, I lead off with Unmask, taking Mox Sapphire. I can continue with my plan unimpeded. On the draw, he drops down Show and Tell into Form of the Dragon while I play Dark Depths. I steal his Echoing Truth, drop Urborg, then play Vampire Hexmage, making a 20/20 thing. I kill him next turn. 2. LemonMeringue DD On the play, I Unmask away the Anurid Scavenger. We then stare at each other; whoever makes the first move loses. On the draw, he gets his Thorn down before I unmask away his Anurid Scavenger and we stare some more. 3. Myy WW On the play, I steal his Mox Sapphire and go along with my plan unimpeded. On the draw, he flashes in the Woodfall Primus, which destroys his Mox Sapphire or plays the Epochrasite. On my turn, I Unmask the whatever is left and procede with 20/20 beats. 4. Magic1264 LL Wasteland beats me senseless. 5. SageShadows XX 6. Numotflame96 WL I Unmask for the Thopter Foundry on the play, and easily win. On the draw, he gets his Thopter Foundry out, unmolested. I unmask away his Sword of the Meek. On his turn, he needs to Thopter away his Mox Sapphire to get a Thopter and the Sword of the Meek out. I get my Marit Lage token out, and he makes a second Thopter on his turn. I lose by slow and certain 1/1 beatdown. Oh the irony… 7. DerFisch LL Burning Inquiry is an auto lose. 8. 9. WCFmo LL Too much hand disruption. 10. coinmagic45 DL On the play, I nab a Burning Inquiry. The correct play is to Cabal Therapy himself for the Nether Spirit. On my turn, I cast a Vampire Hexmage. After his Nether Spirit returns, we face off; neither of us can break through, and if he Chain of Vapors my Vampire Hexmage, I can sacrifice it for Marit Lage. On the draw, a Burning Inquiry burns any hopes of me winning as I need 3 cards to do anything.

Thanks to leyline and its protection from unmask, inquiry wins this on the draw as well. DarkDepths Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth Vampire Hexmage Unmask Innocent Blood 6. Numotflame96 WL 3 - On the play, inquiry is a win. On the draw, he is able to play swamp, mox, thopter foundry. I play out my hand. N: tap mox, sac, bring sword. tap swamp, sac sword, bring back sword. D: Concede. I cant race 1 new guy per turn, which can block my one of my bloodghasts without dying and gains him a life. On the play. I cast inquiry which makes him discard spirit among 2 other cards, but my two bloodghasts are good enough to race his 1 netherspirit. because blocking does neither of us any good, since both of our creatures come back. (You shoulda used undiscovered paradise!) On the draw: I begin with leyline in play, making it so he cant cast cabal therapy on me. So he either has to chain my leyline, or cast inquiry. Chaining my leyline allows me to play out my hand, and we are in the same situation as me on the play. Casting burning inquiry makes me discard 2 bloodghasts and burning inquiry since * Random effects always go against the owner of the card. * and in this case, he is the owner of burning inquiry. So in option 1, I play out my hand then play two bloodghasts the following turn, or in option 2 I get to play my land returning my bloodghasts to play yet again and we are back to where we started yet again, where my two bloodghasts easily race his one netherspirit. fail logic is fail /edit/ City of Brass Chain of Vapor Cabal Therapy Burning Inquiry Nether Spirit code:

The nice thing about combo decks is I generally don't have to think to score. I go WL against everyone with the following exceptions:Myy - WD here. With me on the draw, he plays his land and passes. If I ever go for the combo, he flashes in the primus to kill sneak attack and blocks. If he ever does anything else, I kill him on my next turn (since colossus comes back each turn, so just blocking with primus once isn't good enough if he doesnt kill the sneak attack) Numotflame96 - WW here. Quick side question: Is Tolarian Academy really banned? It's a land that just makes mana (and isn't even that great without mana crypt). Or does this fit into the same category as the workshop ban?

It's really banned. The spirit of the rule, which I'm actually trying to follow as much as, if not more than, the letter of the rule is to allow lands like Fountain of Cho to remain legal forever, so we don't run out of lands to play spells besides one and two-drops. So, the idea was that Remote Farm won't be banned, but other lands could be. You should be able to play with Eternal Dragon, if it's still legal, and not be hindered by the fact that there's no way in the format to produce enough mana to cast him. I've made an exception for City of Traitors because, quite frankly, it's just not powerful enough to really warrant a ban. At its worst, last tournament, it was maybe 30-40% of the metagame, and only one or two of those decks were threatening to win it. I'll consider banning it if it's a problem or enough people think it's not fun, but I don't see any reason to keep non-basics that tap for more than two mana that don't require doing nothing for three turns legal in the format. The storage lands, depletion counter lands, and basics have all proven to be neutered enough that they're not degenerate.
