I would like a common/uncommon cube that uses all new face cards (post 8th edition?) and for all the cards to be worth less than a dollar (so no top, vial, path or witness). So when I go to tournaments or something, I can play with people that I don't know and not have to worry about my cards getting stolen. Does someone else have a similar idea that may have started a list? I want the games to be fun, so how should I constructed it? aggro, mid range or all over the place? 360 cards would be ideal. thanks guys

I have a main cube with rares and mythics and expensive uncommons which is 400 cards, but I have a smaller cube fitting this exact same description for all the reasons you mention. Ideally, you should try to support aggro, mid range, and control, but that's much more difficult with a no-rare cube, since you lose a lot of big bombs and sweepers. So, it's naturally going to gravitate towards aggro much more. I think the main concern with the cube you're designing is to make sure all the colors are balanced, power-wise and that certain colors like blue, which are not normally geared towards aggro, can still support it in some fashion. I tend to include more creatures costing 3 or less in blue to shift its emphasis some, while still playing with cards like Volition Reins and Mind Control to support some control. I'll see if I can get you a list later.

Building what you want, might be a little easier if you go back to say Mercadian, then you could easily build a pauper cube and still support aggro, mid-range, and control in each color.__________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. "Lord Crovax"

if you really want to keep cost down you could also exclude all standard legal cards. It would make it a tad more interesting then a standard draft as you wouldn't see cards you've played with too recently. Cards should be all dirt cheap, just might be a pain to track down.

I don't follow the non rare part, many good rares are less than $1.00. You can also proxy cards. I know by me saying this there will be a bunch of people who will post to prove me wrong, but I don't think you are going to have much of an issue with people stealing your junk rares and proxies. The other think you can do is get played cards. Creased and Damaged cards are cheap, even gold bordered. Just something to think about.

Why not make a low-power cube? Then everything is dirt cheap. There's a lot of cool old cards that nobody ever plays anymore that would be playable; you'd generally have a "perfect" limited format instead of a "turbocharged" cube format. There's piles of good enchantments from Saga and Legends (Black pacifism!) and nearly every other set, slivers in three different blocks (if you throw them ALL in in a 360 draft somebody will be able to have a sliver deck). Rebels in two blocks, piles and piles of soldiers, zombies and elves, artifacts from two blocks and Antiquities and so on. Blessed Halo or whatever the "never dies" Holy Strength in Saga is a huge beating, for example. So is cessation. Everything mentioned above can be found for basically nothing except maybe demonic torment, which might be a dollar in nice condition (though, I doubt it).

I'm working on a simple common/uncommon cube, not sure how good it will be, or even fun for that matter, but should be interesting non the less.Basically going for simple effects, little keywords, and french vanilla creatures. __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. At one point in time, I kept a very low value cube. I settled on a tribal cube and it was a blast! For Blue I had Merfolk, White was Soldiers, Green was Elves, Red was Goblins and Black was Zombies... Suprisingly, it was very balanced... Also, I played several gold creatures that made it difficult for everyone to stay in one color. I had to cut Extinction and Tsabo's Decree because they were INSANE.

Yea I imagine so, then again any decent mass removal spell would be, as decks likely tend to be more aggro then anything else. __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. "Lord Crovax"

The non rare part is mainly to make things easier. For example austere command is very good and cheap, but so is hallow burial and if I keep going down this path, I will end up with a list that's basically a half-as sed cube and I don't want that. I was to play with cards that I have played with in drafts and you really don't come across the same rare too often quote: Originally posted by Volcanon: Why not make a low-power cube? I wanted to keep it new boarded because some old cards are annoying to read and I don't want to have to explain to anyone what an interrupt is. The more I think about it the more aggro I want to make the cube, since I will only be playing with people at events, I would rather have faster games and not have a stupid blue/white control deck that's sitting behind a wall of denial and a handful of counterspells.

That's an awful lot of fixing. Doesn't that kill off aggro since people can just play "good stuff" decks?Anyway, if you want new-face only I'd still go for cards that have synergy like tribes, slivers, and whatever. Since you have two artifact blocks available, you could stick in support cards or whatever like the 1U double birds guy from darksteel. Get enough artifacts and the affinity/metalcraft stuff gets playable.

That is definitely too much mana fixing. I am probably just gonna stick to just the ravnica lands and vivids, then have stuff like terramorphic expense and a few random manlands. I haven't played with loxodon warhammer but I remember behemoth sludge was nuts in shards draft. I do think the rest of your stuff is pretty good, thanks for posting
