BDM: Why make this announcement now? What do you hope people take away from this announcement and this interview?Scott: We don't want to get to the end of this season and say "surprise!" This is the first in a series of informational announcements we will be doing. We wanted to start making people aware that changes are coming and that this is more than just re-figuring the schedule for 2012. Our goal is to provide more opportunities to play at many levels. Because of the ambitious nature of this growth plan for global premier play, we also need time to train a larger group of professional tournament organizers and judge staff to ensure these events are run at the same level of quality players have come to expect at Wizards premier-play events. I love change

@caquaa I stronly agree. having to juggle time off work, the wife, kid -and money to go to grand prix, id like some fair warning.
since if there is a legacy grand prix in europe, i shall be going no matter where. and it gets quite expensive last-minute. (not to mention by boss bitching if take 2 days off work with no warning)

I'm pretty sure they aren't announcing the tournament dates until closer to the dates so that Star City can't plan around them.

that wouldn't even make sense tho. Star city is supporting their product... free advertising.. etc etc. Its all good for wizards.

I suspect that by not announcing the entire schedule ahead of time, they hope to bait more people into earlier GPs. For example, I live in the Chicago area. Supposing they announced a Legacy GP in May in Detroit, I'd be tempted to make the trip there. Then if they announce sometime in July that there will be another one in Chicago in November, I'll probably go to that too. But if I knew ahead of time the entire schedule for the year, I'd probably just stick at home and do the Chicago one only.

+1 SCG is a good thing for WotC/ MtG, they wouldn't try screwing them like that.

I'm sure that SCG will plan on being on the other side of the country of Wizards any given weekend.

I read this as the main organizers will no longer be running the side events allowing for the 'stores' to run their own. __________________ <Jazaray> LIQ! <Jazaray> you broke MOTL <Liq> totally <BoltBait> Don't make me kick you <Slinga> Have no fear, MOTL's janitor is here! <nderdog> So we're all agreed, it's Liq's fault, right? <Leshrac> let me deal with that * Liq has been banned

I read it as "Don't try to show up unless you're invited, cause you won't get in"

yah, but I live in Oregon. THe only one that would be impulse to go to would be Portland. Even Seattle or Cali bay area require planning well ahead of time. Those are 8 hour drives or a few hours flight, etc.
