Just a question: you can't use LED mana to cast spells in your hand, right?

ALMOST a perfect score. It's about time I won one of these.

Normally, no. The ability can only be used when you can play an instant, so you can't announce a spell in your hand, put it on the stack and use LED to pay for it. Part of the cost to use the ability requires you to discard your hand, so if you use the ability before you announce a spell (the only way you can use LED for spells), normally you can't use it to cast something like Demonic Tutor. However, you can use it to cast Arrogant Wurm. LED's ability is a mana ability and can add GGG to your mana pool by the time you would be able to cast Arrogant Wurm. That was the intended effect Numot wanted. He could play LED, sacrifice it and add WWW to your mana pool and cast Call to the Netherworld off of Madness and use the WWW to cast another spell after Call to the Netherworld resolves. Usually in constructed formats where people use it, they will have a spell on the stack, then use LED's ability before that spell resolves, but the spell on the stack isn't cast using LED's mana. So, you might play LED, a Swamp, Dark Ritual (from the B from the Swamp), then play Infernal Tutor using BB of the BBB from Dark Ritual. While Infernal Tutor is still on the stack, you can use LED's ability and add UUU to your mana pool and discard your hand. That will leave you with B UUU in your pool and when Infernal Tutor resolves, you can search for a card in your deck.

Because he's not casting *anything*. He's play LED, sacrificing it, discarding his hand and adding WWW to his mana pool. He uses WW for Chronosavant's ability to return it to the battlefield. So, he can beat Island x5 on the draw or play. He can't cast Loyal Retainers, but that was never his intention (I assume). I'm pretty sure his intended plan was to play LED, discard everything, cast Call to the Netherworld for Madness, get back Loyal Retainers and with WWW in his mana pool, cast Loyal Retainers, then sacrifice it to get back Iona. However, he unfortunately forgot that Call can't get Loyal Retainers, so the deck has three dead cards and only wins when someone can't stop him from casting LED, then getting Chronosavant back and winning with that.

Oh, I totally didn't see Chronosavant's ability in conjunction with the floating mana. Silly me.

I forget, can you play LED, sacrifice it, and respond to the discarding your hand by playing instants? For example, can I sac LED and play 3x Lightning Bolt with the RRR before losing my hand? __________________ 3rd most references in Kentucky; 3rd most posts in KentuckyBlackborder.com Grading Guide

No. Discarding your hand is a cost to play the ability. By the time you have priority to cast spells, your hand is in your graveyard.
