I sold my collection of MTG around a year ago and it included a beta illusionary mask and 4x candelabra of tawnos and at the time the illusionary mask went for around 70ish I believe and the candelabras sold for around $35-40. I just looked up the price they're going for on Ebay and most people are selling them for $200+. What caused the drastic price increase??

I believe it was a new deck in Legacy, one that wins with high tide and untap lands abilities to kill with a huge Blue sun's zenith

Yep, it was High Tide that did it.

it just seems like that wouldn't affect it that much because high tide has been around forever...and that blue sun zenith crap is just new version of every other X card draw card ever.

High Tide wasn't a deck in Legacy until Time Spiral got unbanned.

so since the new card is an instant and can target other players....candelabra of tawnos more than tripled in value?

Don't ever sell your collection if there is ANY chance you'll want to play again. But yes, Time Spiral got unbanned in legacy, and it needs candelabra x4 to be good enough. Big demand spike. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? one reason I always end up selling my stuff is because everyone around where i live only plays like T2 and booster drafts and I really just hate new magic cards for the most part. I can't believe they made that stupid new card that is better than phyrexian negator and juzam djinn. They've always made cards that kind of resembled an older godly card but weren't quite as good. they've gone too far. I think richard garfield should give the rights to MTG to someone who won't ruin it and make it for 12 year olds.

lol. i guess everything i the world is like that...good bands will eventually make bad cds...video games that are around for long enough get crappy expansions...and now mtg changed the rules/card artwork to be more suitable for young children. stupid. kids are scared of mana burn.

there exists no guesture forceful enough I can make in response to this. Facepalm is nowhere near strong enough. __________________ "I never got any respect at all. My family moved a lot when I was a kid, but I always found them." -- Rodney Dangerfield

I know how you feel, I felt like that when they announced the new card template for the front. I love the way old cards look. With time, you just accept inevitable truths.

Just to elaborate: it was a deck (called Solidarity--I know you know, it's just for the benefit of others), and it was a storm combo deck that aimed to mill the opponent with Brain Freeze and force them to draw cards with Stroke of Genius, thereby losing the game. Unfortunately, its biggest opponent was itself: the player would go through 1029283420 shenanigans, contort his deck into all kinds of knots (brilliantly, I might add), and ultimately fizzle (after about 15 minutes of solo play). If the player wasn't particularly good or familiar with the deck, s/he would fizzle earlier. And then Candelabra and Time Spiral were unbanned, and Blue Sun's Zenith were printed, and all of a sudden the deck became consistent and largely stopped beating itself. Candelabra replaces Reset, which makes a big difference (for one thing, the deck no longer needs to go off during its opponent's turn). __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I agree current magic is a travesty, but I still love my vintage cards enough to never sell out, I learned that years ago... __________________ Most References in West Virginia.
