I have been trying to sort my
collection of close to 200k of cards to prepare
for a sale and it's been difficult to determine what is
worth selling separtely and what should be left as bulk.
I personally haven't played much in the past decade so
it's been really difficult for me to determine what is
playble and notable. Even with my limited memory of what
was good then may be completely different now. For
example, I found 28 copies of cabal therapies in one
of my uncommon boxes that I had considered bulk before.
On the other hand, I had plucked all the lightning bolts
and serra angels which are pretty much worthless now(on
a side note, are these worth selling still?).

Obviously, I'm trying to pick out anything of value
and to sell the rest for dirt cheap. But my question
is, without playing knowledge, what is a good way
I can use the data available to me to pick out what to
sell seperately?

Is there some sort of guideline I can go by?

What I have been doing is basically plucking all
the cards on the MOTL price guide worth >.50
and with 5 or more data points. If the card is worth
> $1 or has 10+ data points, I would consider plucking
it as well. Is my guideline too loose or too stringent?

Or am I going about this completely the wrong way?
I considered sorting all the cards and cataloging in
suitcase, but that would take way too much time and
cataloging bulk isn't my intention.

Please share any thoughts and any feedback would be appreciated.

I think it's a bit off.
I'd make the distinction between rarity.
Rares >$1
Uncommons >$0.25
Commons >$0.1

If you have time, of course, that would give you pretty much all the noncrap stuff. Then it might be a little away from sellable.

PS: Bolts are worth it, Serras not.

So regarding rarity and such.
I basically pulled all the rares and I figured even at
bulk prices, they could be sold at .12

Uncommons and commons is where I have more of the issue because almost all commons and uncommons are worth at least .25 on the price guide.

Oh, damn, I forgot that.
You'd have to know what's played and what's not, so that's a bit tricky. You can first pull out any sideboard card (Tin Street Hooligan, Ancient Grudge, Ravenous Trap, for example). There are other all-time goodies, like any kind of counterspell or blue drawing card. Then, atop of my head, others like Lightning bolt, Crop Rotation, are legacy playable.

If you don't know what's valuable it's not worth it for you to bulk commons/uncommons. Just let them sit there until you're interesting in playing again or something. That said, some stuff is obviously never going to be good, like 1W for 5 life and such.

It's especially tough, because even your card, 1W gain 5 life might be worth more with a newly printed 1 mana enchantment that says for every point of life you gain, your opponent looses that much life.

But in all seriousness if you have the place to store the cards just log them and tuck them away for another day.

When you do sell your cards let me know though, I'd love to pick up some bulk rares and older uncommons

I agree knowledge is key here, as with anything else, but
I guess I'm o.k with not squeezing every penny out of what I have. As long as I don't short change myself by
like 20% or more with the stuff I have limited knowledge
on, I'll be content. I seriously doubt I will get back
into the game once I sell my collection. Also, space is
becoming an issue now, selling most of the bulk off
just to create space is defintely worth something to me.

Let me give you guys a sampling of a random stack I
just "cherry picked". Please me know how much I missed,
would help greatly. Please keep in mind that there were
multiple copies of each card. In many cases over 20
copies, but I tried my best not to duplicate names.

Stuff I pulled
******************************
Goblin Offensive
Arcane Labratory
Order or Yawgmoth
Goblin Lackey
******************************

Stuff I left
******************************
skeletal scrying (particularly intersted in this one
as I could have sworn I have seen this as a playable
at some point. But at .65 with 3 data points I left it)

Childhood Horror
Rotting Giant
Chatic strike
Firebrand ranger

Order of Yawgmoth is bulk,
Goblin Lacky is way not bulk.
Goblin Offensive is maybe .50
Arcane Laboratory is maybe .50 but you may have to work to sell them at that.

it really depends on how hard you want to work/wait to sell something. Is selling uncommon for .25 worth it to you? or rares for .50?

bulk is generally considered the following

Rares $2 and under
commons/uncommons less than $1

The reason for this is because the time it takes to actually sort and price them all may not be cost efficient/profitable and the prices between many different sellers can vary greatly.

I'd pull
any rare over $1
any common/uncommon over .75

many of the smaller ones really won't be worth your time.

Urza's Saga Fog Bank can be sold for at least a $1. Not bulk.

Once you've picked out everything rare, uncommon, and common that's not bulk the bulk prices are usually around these prices.

Gold symbol rares .15 to .20 per rare
Non gold symbol rares .10 to .12 per rare
Common/uncommon mixed $4 to $6 per 1,000. Better to do this in person as shipping could be a killer.
