5-Card Blind (5CB) is a very unique game.
The rules are as follows:
* Your deck is composed of 5 cards, all of which start in your hand.
* You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
* Random effects always go against the owner of the card.
* You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
* You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
* You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
* For each win, you score 3.
* For each draw, you score 1.
* For each loss, you get nothing.
* A subgame played with the card Shahrazad where neither player has any means to win the subgame will result in an incomplete game and both players will receive ZERO points for that game, since the main game cannot be resumed. Neither player loses or draws, so neither player earns any points.
* Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!
Remember, it is important for your deck to include a way to cast your cards! (Lands, artifact mana, pitch cards, etc.)
If you want to play PM me or send me an e-mail in this format:
Subject should include "Vanishing 5-Card Blind" (Just click on the little PM icon above my post and it should work out that way.)
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3
Card #4
Card #5
Be sure you really are happy with your deck before you submit. Once you send in a deck, there is no changing it except in the case of an illegal entry.
Please make every effort to spell your card names correctly. It makes it easier for everyone. Thanks.
The "Vanishing" part is the twist. To start off with, only Unglued, Unhinged and Ante cards are banned. After each round, the 5 cards in the winning deck plus any cards in more than 1/3 of the decks played will be banned for all future rounds.

Any lands that only provide mana are exempted from the banning rules.

NO MISE DECKS!

Any deck submitted MUST have some win condition. Any deck that can do no better than a draw against any possible deck will be rejected. A deck that can't win any game is mathematically eliminated from winning the round, and thus would just be taking a chance to win away from someone who could actually have a shot.

ALL players will assist in judging. The way this will work is that after the submission period is over, After all decks are revealed, judge your own deck against every other deck (going first and going second). Post your findings here in this thread. They will be reviewed by everyone for accuracy. Once a winner is determined the winners deck will be added to the banned list and the next round will begin. Repeated failure to do your own scoring will result in suspensions!

Here's a brief primer for those who are not familiar with the format.

You can usually classify most of the decks into one of these categories (although there's lots of overlap):

1) Combo decks. A two, three, or more card combo that will win you the game. For example: Vampire Hexmage + Dark Depths. A 20/20 flying creature on turn two that attacks turn 3 is hard for many decks to deal with. These kinds of decks are easily disrupted by discard and counters, but usually beat other decks with no disruption. Sometimes these decks deal with disruption by running multiple copies or running some disruption themselves. The Vampire Hexmage Dark Depths deck that won was able to force through a win with two Vampire Hexmages, ensuring that even if one got countered or discarded, a second would likely resolve.

2) Control decks. You generally play one, slow win condition and spend the rest of the game trying to stop what your opponent does. You might run a counterspell to stop him from winning, discard to take a card away, or have some other spell or permanent that deals with creatures. Look at Round 14, where a deck that stalled out creature decks with Web of Inertia hoped to win many, many turns later with Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Force Spike and Disrupting Shoal also helped act as a way to stop combo, aggro, or even other control decks.

3) Aggro decks. You play out early threats and hope to win quickly, although often aggro decks incorporate some elements of control or combo to win, since an early creature may not get there on its own. Look at Round 13's winning deck:

Island
Tidal Warrior
Tidal Warrior
Mental Misstep
Daze

The deck played Tidal Warrior ASAP and hoped to stop opponents with Mental Misstep or Daze if they were fast decks and use Tidal Warrior to make a non-basic an island if it's a slow deck.

There's not an absolute divide and often an aggro-control, aggro-combo, or combo-control deck is really what wins, since you need a way to play a victory condition and stop your opponent from winning as well.

So, how do you choose a deck?

You can figure out a combo of two cards you want to play and some way to play those cards, or you can try to make your best guess as what will be popular and play a deck that looks good against those decks, or if you are so inclined, there have been previous rounds of V3CB and V4CB and many of those decks can be "upgraded" for five cards now.

Right now, Mesmeric Fiend and Nezumi Shortfang are still unbanned and ready to win a round, and there are still plenty of non-basic land hate cards like Magus of the Moon or Dwarven Miner, which can stop slower decks or some combo decks that don't win early. Rite of Flame still is legal, so you can play a deck with two or three of these and generate lots of red mana on turn 1 or 2 and win with something like Goblin Warrens. Sarcomancy and Tel-Jilad Stylus can make lots of Zombies for you. Bitterblossom and Sheltered Valley work well together.

Lodestone Golem by itself, if you can get it out turn one or two can be brutal to many decks that have exactly the amount of mana to play their spells.

Barbed Shocker or Shocker played Early can strip your opponent's entire hand.

Find a way to abuse Time Vault and Voltaic Key.

Two turns with Eater of Days is meaningless if your opponent still will die before you kill them with a huge creature.

Phyrexian Dreadnaught's downside can be negated in a few ways (Stife, Torpor Orb) and a turn 1 or 2 12/12 trampler can end the game very quickly.

Get a fatty into your graveyard and get it back with Exhume.

Play a nearly unkillable creature like Eternal Dragon (if you can stop your opponent cold, they aren't drawing new cards, so if it takes you five or fifty turns to kill them, you can sitll win)

Shah of Naar Isle's downside is pretty meaningless, so attack away with a huge creature.

Play land destruction.

Play lots of creatures.

Play one big creature.

Play a two-card combo.

Play discard.

Or play something none of us will see coming.

This is TRULY the format to be a rogue and win with YOUR deck.

The decklists have been posted.

You may use other formats as well, but this one is a must. Also PLEASE make sure you use the proper deck number for your deck. Replace the '?' on the bottom line with the number next to your name on the decklist.

Scoring:

Play your deck against each other deck twice, once with you going first, once with them going first.

Always remember that each deck is to be played perfectly.

For each of the 2 games, score 3 points if your deck wins or 1 point if the game is a draw, with no

points for a loss.

Some examples:
2 wins (WW) is 6 points.
A win and a draw (WD) is 4 points.
A win and a loss (WL) is 3 points.
2 draws (DD) is 2 points.
A draw and a loss (DL) is 1 point.
2 losses (LL) is 0 points.

Plug YOUR deck number into the ? below the ##, and your score against each deck into the other

slots.

Do not play your deck against itself. Just enter an 'x' in the chart under your deck number.

Please copy-and-paste the following code into your Message box in order to assist you with scoring:

code:

## 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 TOTAL

## 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 TOTAL
09 1 6 2 0 0 3 0 0 x 12

I never did the math against myy but i think i can tap the crafter to kill him before the faeries get me.

agaisnt magic, on the play i first turn lackey.
if he first turns the processor then he's gotta pay at least five i would guess
20-15
i hit for one and drop the crafter
20-14
he puts in a token
i tap and hit him for three
20-11
hits me for five, puts in another token
15-11
i hit for 3
15-8
he hits for ten, puts in a token
5-8
i poke for three and burn for 4, then cry.
on the draw a first turn lodestone seals it.

At least i came back in a big way. and Myy prolly beat me too.

1. yakusoku WL
On the play, I bring out my Phyrexian Obliterator. There’s no way he can deal 5 damage to my Obliterator at once, so I win the game
On the draw, it’s the same thing. Chrome Mox and Pyrokinesis just don’t work well together.

2. rainherring DD
Reverent Silence locks him out of the Helix win. On the play: Play obliterator. He casts his Magus of the Vineyard. I swing for 5. He casts Omnath with 1 floating (2/2) and swings in for 2. I swing for another 5. Omnath is up to 6 floating (7/7) and he pokes in for 2. (Me: 16, Him: 10). I swing for another 5 (Me: 16, Him 5). Omnath is a (12/12) now and he can only swing in for 14, so that means he needs to use Omnath to protect himself. In the end, it turns out to be a tie.
Same on the draw.

3. SageShadows XX

4. NiceFaceLOL LL
I can’t beat Innocent Blood and Inquisition.

5. Numotflame96 LL
A Dismember is game.

6. Myy WL
On the play, I get my stuff out fast enough. He just doesn’t have enough resources to take the Phyrexian Obliterator hits.
On the draw, Encroach is a blowout.

7. junichi LL
Trip Noose trips up Phyrexian Obliterator.

8. Magic1264 LL
On the play, I get my Phyrexian Obliterator out fast enough to avoid Lodestone disaster. He casts the Loadstone. I swing in for 5. He swings in for 5, plays the Phyrexian Processor for an arbitrary low number and wins despite my Obliterator.

9. mattw DD
On the play, Obliterator can block the Lackey and his board will be nuked. On the draw, the same thing happens. Since he can pyrokinesis away the Obliterator, it’s a draw.

On the play, I bring out my Phyrexian Obliterator. There’s no way he can deal 5 damage to my Obliterator at once, so I win the game
On the draw, it’s the same thing. Chrome Mox and Pyrokinesis just don’t work well together.

How do you play Phyrexian Obliterator on the draw? I play Magus of the Moon and you can't cast Phyrexian Obliterator off of Memnite and a Mountain.

1. yakusoku XX

Chrome Mox
Magus of the Moon
City of Traitors
Pyrokinesis
Words of War

2. rainherring WL On the play, Magus of the Moon makes Gaea's Cradle into a Mountain and my 2/2 beats his 1/1. On the draw, he can play Magus and I have to use Pyrokinesis, then he plays Memnite and I lose.

3. SageShadows WL On the play, Magus of the Moon turns Bayou into a Mountain, so he can't play Culling the Weak or Phyrexian Obliterator.

4. NiceFaceLOL WL On the play, his Undiscovered Paradise is a mountain and he can't play anything. On the draw, he plays Inquisition and takes my Chrome Mox.

5. Numotflame96 WL On the play, I resolve Words of War. On the draw, I lose Words of War to Blackmail and Magus ot Dismember (or he uses Noxious Revival to recover from Pyrokinesis)

6. Myy WL. On the play, I play Words of War, then Magus of the Moon and win. On the draw, he Encroaches my land and wins with Bitterblossom.

7. junichi WL On the play, he can't play anything. On the draw, Phyrexian Revoker names Chrome Mox.

8. Magic1264 LL. He can play Phyrexian Processor and race me.

9. mattw WD. On the play, I play Words of War and shoot his Lackey and then him. On the draw, I can't use Magus to block or Words to shoot the Lackey, so I use Pyro to kill his Lackey and we both can't do anything.

i think you win here. he has to cast memnite in order to cast magus he needs to already have out memnite already.

Actually, now that I think about it, I would draw here. I use Pyrokinesis to burn his two creatures and he can't play anything else, but I can't play Words or Magus to win.
