Got this little number today: We recently changed our pricing so that all PayPal customers can receive money from friends and family within the US/CA for free. PayPal merchants receiving money as payment for a purchase, continue to incur fees. We’re not sure if you are aware of this, but we noticed that some of your customers are sending you personal payments for purchases of items or services. Unfortunately, this violates our rules, and we need your help correcting this. Please don’t ask or allow your customers to use personal payments to pay for their purchases. If we continue to see such activity , we may have to disable your ability to receive personal payments, and then you will pay fees for all money received through PayPal. You can find more information about payment types and fees in sections 4.2 and 8 of our User Agreement – just click “Legal Agreements” at the bottom of any PayPal page. If you have any questions, concerns, or think we may have made a mistake, please contact us at P2P@paypal.com. Thank you for helping us resolves this matter. Anyone know if it's just scare tactics and if not what I can do to prevent it from coming up any more?

No, it's not just scare tactics, and if you continue to abuse personal payments, PayPal will make it so that you are unable to receive them and you'll be charged on every transaction. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Tell them not to leave any comments when sending the money. MTDetermine made a big thread about this a while back, search for his name.

How about just paying for the service instead of ruining it for people who use personal payments legitimately? And no, I've never used paypal for a personal payment for any reason.

Personal payment is free within your own country. Outside your country, personal payment actually costs 0.5% to 1.0%, depending on the distance. Germany costs 2.0%

You may want to read this thread: http://classic.magictraders.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/024850.html 1) is more likely, 2) is possible 1) Your buyers, when sending you personal payments, probably write something like "$100 for 11 Misty Rainforest". Anyone who can read will know it is a purchase! For me, whenever I meet dim-witted buyers who give me such a payment, I will immediately refund them with the comments "Sorry, this is a mistake. I never sell you anything. You probably send payment to the wrong paypal account". 2) Paypal sent an email to one of your ex-customers, saying that they suspect a personal payment made to you is not proper, and that he will not qualify for buyer protection. Paypal will then pretend to be helpful to ask what nature is that payment, for what goods......etc.......Again, if your buyer is stupid enough to think Paypal is helpful here and reply accordingly, you get ****. For me, I just ignore these paypal emails.
Paypal is never serious about giving buyer's protection. They are more concern about earning fees.
If you want buyer's protection, go and buy on ebay. If not, even if you choose the "payment for goods and services" route, Paypal will only refund you whatever is left in the seller's account. So if a seller scam you and withdraw all his money, Paypal will give you $0.

My suggestion is, create 1-2 backup paypal accounts using your parents' name, with their permission of course. Each month, you use 1 account to do 4-5 transactions. And always reject all those payments that come with "$100 for xxx". If your paypal account only accept a few payments once in a while, you are fine. Paypal's detection system will not find you (at least, based on their current expertise). For those active sellers, I will recommend you have 2 accounts. 1 account to receive small purchases from random people. 1 account to receive big personal payment purchases from a few regulars, or that once in a blue moon big sales. If you have 1 account that receives 10+ personal payment a month, you will get nailed pretty fast.

MTDetermine, please stop telling people how to cheat paypal and encouraging them to do so. You joined their program, and you need to follow the TOS. I know nder posted on the thread you had up before, telling you to knock it off, I noticed that it's now gone, but I will let nder deal with that one. I had better not see you doing this again.People, PLEASE don't take his advice. You want their service, you need to PAY FOR IT. Would you give your cards away for free? I don't think so. Following his mistaken advice is a sure way to lose your Paypal account. It's people like him that are driving the price of using it up. Thanks, Jazaray
