5-Card Blind (5CB) is a very unique game.
The rules are as follows:
* Your deck is composed of 5 cards, all of which start in your hand.
* You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
* Random effects always go against the owner of the card.
* You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
* You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
* You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
* For each win, you score 3.
* For each draw, you score 1.
* For each loss, you get nothing.
* A subgame played with the card Shahrazad where neither player has any means to win the subgame will result in an incomplete game and both players will receive ZERO points for that game, since the main game cannot be resumed. Neither player loses or draws, so neither player earns any points.
* Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!
Remember, it is important for your deck to include a way to cast your cards! (Lands, artifact mana, pitch cards, etc.)
If you want to play PM me or send me an e-mail in this format:
Subject should include "Vanishing 5-Card Blind" (Just click on the little PM icon above my post and it should work out that way.)
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3
Card #4
Card #5
Be sure you really are happy with your deck before you submit. Once you send in a deck, there is no changing it except in the case of an illegal entry.
Please make every effort to spell your card names correctly. It makes it easier for everyone. Thanks.
The "Vanishing" part is the twist. To start off with, only Unglued, Unhinged and Ante cards are banned. After each round, the 5 cards in the winning deck plus any cards in more than 1/3 of the decks played will be banned for all future rounds.

Any lands that only provide mana are exempted from the banning rules. Exceptions may be made for lands which are deemed too powerful for the environment such as Mishra's Workshop and Tolarian Academy.

NO MISE DECKS!

Any deck submitted MUST have some win condition. Any deck that can do no better than a draw against any possible deck will be rejected. A deck that can't win any game is mathematically eliminated from winning the round, and thus would just be taking a chance to win away from someone who could actually have a shot.

ALL players will assist in judging. The way this will work is that after the submission period is over, After all decks are revealed, judge your own deck against every other deck (going first and going second). Post your findings here in this thread. They will be reviewed by everyone for accuracy. Once a winner is determined the winners deck will be added to the banned list and the next round will begin. Repeated failure to do your own scoring will result in suspensions!

It seems I need to clarify something about the rules.

quote:
The Rules:

The list of rules is meant to supercede (overwrite) the normal rules of Magic. Normally, you have a deck of 60 cards for constructed; we are only playing with 5. Normally, you lose for not being able to draw; we are ignoring that. Normally, random effects are, well, random, but in order to make things consistent and indisputable, "random" => "worst possible outcome for the person controlling a spell or ability". Normally, you don't see your opponents hand and have to guess as to what they are playing. Everything here is known. Each player plays optimally, and that sometimes means playing to a draw. Normally, you play until one player wins two games. In this tournament, you play just two games, so if one or more games end in a draw, that is how the match is recorded.

Now, I am NOT going to add the following clarification to the V#CB rules, but I will explain it here once so we are all on the same page.

There was a questioned asked about the last rule:

quote:

* Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!

I don't mean that everything is played out like a game you would play in a real tournament. There is no time limit on games, so if you can take an infinite sequence of actions that benefits you, there is nothing to stop that. In a NORMAL tournament, you can't stall the match out forever to force a draw just for the sake of forcing a draw. In this tournament, this is possible (Round 23 featured a deck that could take infinite turns with Time Vault + Voltaic Key). I will not penalize anyone for stalling, nor force you to name a finite number of times you want to repeat an unbounded loop, execute it, then proceed as normal, and I will definitely not force a draw to turn into a loss because one person refuses to concede.

The phrase "everything is handled exactly like a real game of Magic" is meant to clarify that you still take your normal sequence of steps in each turn, untapping, getting an upkeep, draw (although you usually don't draw any cards), main phase, attack, second main phase, and end of turn. More importantly, this line is there to emphasize the fact that you must still generate mana as you normally would and cast your creatures and other spells.

This is NOT Type 4 ("infinite mana Magic"), where you can play with no lands and just cast everything for free. So, yes, that means some of your cards must be lands or other resources. Just like in a normal game of Magic.

This is NOT "mana drop", so you can only play one land per turn.

You can have multiple copies of the same card. This is not EDH or Highlander/Singleton.

Each of the cards are exactly what they are. This is not mental Magic.

You can have rares in your deck. This is not pauper.

You play your deck in a one-on-one duel against another person. We don't get everyone together to play one huge game. This is not multiplayer and this is not 2-headed giant.

Each person brings their own deck and plays against another person. This is not "big deck Magic" where we share the same library.

No outside cards are allowed and no one is opening booster packs. This is not booster draft, sealed, or pack wars.

This an alternate format to Standard, Extended, Block, Legacy, Vintage, and Modern, but you don't have 60 cards.

There are no judges here, no tables, and no one actually uses real Magic cards. We don't play games on MTGO or MWS. Look at previous rounds if you want to see how the matches are "played".

If there are any more questions about the rules that this post does not yet address, feel free to ask.

I came up with what I think is a rather elegant deck.

However, given my track record, I'm going to carefully read each card before I decide to submit a list.

The decklists have been posted.

You may use other formats as well, but this one is a must. Also PLEASE make sure you use the proper deck number for your deck. Replace the '?' on the bottom line with the number next to your name on the decklist.

Scoring:

Play your deck against each other deck twice, once with you going first, once with them going first.

Always remember that each deck is to be played perfectly.

For each of the 2 games, score 3 points if your deck wins or 1 point if the game is a draw, with no

points for a loss.

Some examples:
2 wins (WW) is 6 points.
A win and a draw (WD) is 4 points.
A win and a loss (WL) is 3 points.
2 draws (DD) is 2 points.
A draw and a loss (DL) is 1 point.
2 losses (LL) is 0 points.

Plug YOUR deck number into the ? below the ##, and your score against each deck into the other

slots.

Do not play your deck against itself. Just enter an 'x' in the chart under your deck number.

Please copy-and-paste the following code into your Message box in order to assist you with scoring:

code:

## 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 TOTAL

Feel free to post any discrepancies/corrections.

1. Yakusoku WL3 - Goodbye Duress, hello Encroach! Balancing Act strips his hand to one on the play while on the draw Encroach takes my Crystal Vein and I lose.

2. WeedIan WW6 - Balancing Act strips his hand to one on the play. He can't keep a land in hand and on the board to unearth Rats on the play thanks to Balancing Act.

3. Pringlesman WD4 - Balancing Act strips his hand to one on the play. On the draw, I can't disrupt his cycle once he suspends the 'Blooms. Edit: However, I had not considered the fact that he can't keep everything in hand. Pyrite Spellbomb kills Memnite and we stare.

4. Bugger LL0 - Kozilek's reshuffle gets me.

5. Numotflame96 WW6 - Balancing Act strips his hand to one on the play. On the draw, the same thing happens even if he commits anything to the board. I can Balancing Act in my first main and after any mana floated leaves his pool, I can safely play Memnite.

6. SageShadows WL3 - Balancing Act strips his hand to one on the play. On the draw, Magus prevents me from Balancing and proceeds to throw salt in the wound by entering the red zone.

7. stab107 XX - That's me!

8. Myy WL3 - Balancing Act strips his hand to one on the play. On the draw, Blackmail gets me.

9. Magic1264 WW6 - Balancing Act strips his hand to one on the play. No disruption on the draw leads to the the same result.

He has one card in hand, I have to discard some combination of my cards. If I keep bauble I am able to recycle the second sunrise for infinite mana but will be unable to play the pyrite spellbomb infinite times. The best I can do is keep the pyrite spellbomb in hand and we draw the game.
