I just started playing MTG about a month and a half ago, and went kinda crazy making decks. 9 at the most at one point. The guy who taught me said im making too many. So now im down to 4. What do you think? Too much spread out over 9 decks is bad? Focus on a smaller number or make as many as possible? Your opinions are appreciated!

Depends, really. I have two commander decks, but can build anything I want. There are people I know that have over 100 decks. It really depends.__________________ #2 in posts from British Columbia!Got any Portuguese Foils? Post on my list or email me at valter.cid@gmail.com !

I think build as many decks as your collection can support well. I have 65 atm, most decent, some crappy, but i won't make a new deck if an existing deck can benefit from the cards i'd use in the new one.

Maybe not relevant since I only play MTGO but on there, I have 29 decks: 18 Classic, 5 Tribal, 2 Legacy, 2 Modern, 1 Commander, and 1 Standard. Its a bit easier though on MTGO since one set of duals can go into every deck.

4 Legacy/1 Vintage/1 Commander. Can form a couple more of legacy decks. Used to have 2nd Commander deck but was dismantled.

All depends on the quality and quantity of your cards and what quality you want your decks to be. Some people just build decks w/ what they have laying around, others build a deck on paper then assemble that exact list and won't accept a substitution. I Build decks with exactly what I want in them. If I don't have the cards, I obtain them or don't build the deck.Right now I have 1 standard deck, 1 legacy deck, 2.5 EDH decks, and most of a vintage deck. The vintage deck gets cards borrowed from it a lot since no one here plays vintage. Its short like 3-5 cards right now that are "on loan" to other decks. Likely i should just take it apart. I say 2.5 EDH decks because I have 2 that I play and 1 more that I don't. Grand Arbiter is so bad that it sits in my bag and no one wants to play w/ it... even me. Its short like 2-3 cards as it doesn't really matter since it isn't being played. If it did matter I could just throw it back together fairly quickly.

Depends what type of player you are, If your a hardcore tourney palyer then your better off just focusing on one deck per format and becomming as proficant as playing it as you can, if you find out you don't like it or it's to weak, then sell and use to buy another one. If your more of a causual tourney player or just casual non-tourney, then as many as you can support and enjoy.

At one point in my casual career I maxed out at 9 decks.Right now I have 4: 2 "learner decks" for people I'm teaching the game to to play against each other, with the card types and abilities severely limited; 1 Niv-Mizzet EDH I'm planning to sell off because no one here plays that; and 1 Legacy deck (think Brad Nelson's deck from last year's US GP on steroids). It's better for a new player to focus on 1-3 decks to really learn the intricacies of it, then expand once they have a feel for it and start exploring their deck-building skills and understanding why some decks are good and some are bad, then go back down to 1-2 again once they become serious. It's really expensive to put together a tournament-quality deck regardless of the format (having to rotate cards every few months makes Standard more expensive than Legacy over the long-term, but because the cards are usually cheaper, it's cheaper in the short-term) and most people simply do not have the collection or cash to focus on more than a deck or two at a time.

2 commander, 2 standard, 2 vintage, and about a dozen legacy decks. I suppose that's a lot. I'll start selling some one of these days. Edit: actually 2 of those legacy decks are vintage, not legacy. __________________ |My Angels~My P9 l""|"\__, |~~My #1 Angel~~l'_|'_|_|) |(@)(@)""***|(@)(@)**|(@)

4 Legacy (NO BUG, Big Zoo, Aggro-Elves, and Pox), 4 Casual (UW Pride Parade, UR Elementals, UB Faeries, and Mono-black Zombies). I'm also currently most of the way to having built 3 new Legacy decks (Dredge, Merfolk, and Reanimator).__________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. If you just started, honestly, make a crap load of them, and see what you like. They don't need to be good, you just need to get familiar with the mechanics, synergy of cards, combat tricks, etc. I keep a bunch of garbage decks together to teach people the game, and I'll actually take them with me to GPs and other tournaments to play with friends between rounds, simply because it's refreshing to do so (woot, another save by Samite Healer!). Once you start getting serious though, usually about 2-5 decks that you focus on per format is normal. I only play Legacy anymore, and my wife and I have 3 serious/competitive decks, but probably about 10 others that are just for fun.

I generally build a deck, play it a few times to get it tuned, then throw it into my FNM rotation. I try to have 4 or 5 decks available every week so that I can keep people guessing about what I might be playing, and also so if someone is around but didn't bring a deck because they didn't plan on playing, I can loan them one. On Friday, my loaner deck won the event, while I went 1-2. Having too many decks means you won't be as skilled with them (and prone to do stupid things like forgetting that it's a bad idea to equip your Phantasmal Image with an Argentum Armor) but sticking to only one or two decks means that you don't get to experience the variety available. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. I've got somewhere close to 50, but not quite 50. I think it's 30 some decks or so. Not all of them are complete either. I'd say 2/3 of them are complete.__________________ Looks or gender never play into it(my mindset in losing a game). I build decks around fun ideas or new sets. Then I store them in boxes of 6, and keep them where the weekly playgroup can borrow a box as needed for an evening.I have 38 of the 6-deck boxes, plus 10 EDH (5 Commander prebuilt and 5 home-brews). So that would make 238 at the moment. But I expect to finish filling #39 before weeks end. __________________ "If you're right 90% of the time, why quibble about the other 3% ?""I intend to live forever. So far, so good."

I have 5 legacy decks, an EDH deck, a vintage deck, a modern deck, a standard deck and about 100 casual/old standard-extended decks.I usually can't bring myself to take decks apart, I still have Wildfire, Fruity Pebbles, Counter-Rebel, Fires, Necro, Ponza... any deck that was fun in standard I kept intact.
