So I just got this phone call from a dude claiming to be "Daniel Brown". He calls me, asks me if I'm interested in buying magic cards, and then proceeds to tell me that he usually sells bulk rares for .20 cents each, but he's got 10,000 that he's wanting to sell at .10 cents each and if I buy all of them, he'll throw in an unlimited Black Lotus (lol). When I tell him sure, I'll pay him as soon as I receive the merchandise, he tells me that he's "not paying the $100 for shipping before getting paid". I of course proceed to tell him that shipping in 2 large flat rate boxes would only cost him 30 bucks, and that I've got the references to back up my request, but he of course refuses saying that he's not going to risk losing out on his shipping money if I scam him (oh... the irony lol). Apparently he got my phone number from eBay by bidding on one of my items, then requesting seller information (didn't know that could be done... seems like quite a loophole). Anyway, I'm obviously not following up with this likely scammer because I'm just not stupid enough to fall for stuff like this, but I'm just curious if others have been contacted in a similar fashion before. He spoke English of course, but sounded like an Asian guy (in case he goes by other names too, just trying to be descriptive). The phone number he called me from was 727-748-9770. Just my curiosity and a public service announcement I suppose....

It is a Florida area code, so it's probably him. He must really be getting desperate.

I just tried calling the number and a female voice picked up. After I asked, "Is this the residence of Daniel Brown?" she hung up. It seems to be a mobile phone, because when I called again it rang once, went to voicemail, and it said please leave a message for (phone number).

Wow this guy is busy. Sadly, if he put as much effort into being a legitimate trader as he did into scamming people, he would probably be making some serious bank.

ROFL! I clicked on it and up pops this old white guy. I know you can't tell everything with just a phone conversation, but he definitely wasn't an old white guy =P That link was comedic gold though.

You list the fake stuff and sell it on your ebay account. You send him half the money. He never sends the buyer anything. Buyer files claim against you and gets all their money back. He still has half the money...

But if you follow ths:quote: (You do not have to pay me until I have shipped the mtg beta booster boxes to the buyer. You do not pay me until they have the item in hand.)
How will he get the money? If you stay with it and send him nothing until you have positive feedback or confirmation the buyer received it sounds like he would get nothing, you would get a refund request. :-/

Actually it says you only pay him when tey receive, so it does confuse me how he profits off of this. Unless he has an ebay account where he could buy it himself, say he received, and then recant and file a claim?

That's what I'm getting at. If you follow his instructions the only scenario which I can think of where you are at risk is the one posted by baldr but even in that case I think you could take measures to protect yourself and possibly come out winning.edit: spelling

Is it really even worth the risk? The guy is indisputably a dishonest scamming crapweasel. I suspect that the scam involves shipping to himself, then after he receives payment, he'll file a claim that the contents were wrong or something along those lines. Since you're not the one doing the shipping, there is no way for you to properly protect yourself to ensure that you won't be hosed.__________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. That's the same information except for the name of the guy who was trying to scam me.I'm actually a bit surprised that he's not had this behaviour beaten out of him yet. Seems that's he's taken enough people that odds say he would've met a violent sucker already. Or at the very least been arrested.

I just had some fun with this nutball scammer. He's getting real desperate to even agree to meet but of course not show up. He calls me one morning and asks to do the job you're all familiar with. Little does he know I have a vast network of associates all over the country that could meet him and verify if he's legit and has the goods. He said he owns Fallout Comics store in Tallahassee FL and he can meet me there. He of course doesn't show up and goes on this broken record thing about just providing me his own pictures. I say no of course, we need to take pictures ourselves but to humor him, I say send me pics with our business name for ebay seller so can post it. I was surprised when he sent it to me. This moron probably thinks he's dealing with another moron like himself and sends me an Innistad Booster Box picture; not even close to the value of a Beta Booster Box. He kept insisting that it's legit and just to post it NOW. I said he can send it to me and I will pay when it gets here. He disagrees and said why would he send it without getting paid first? Well, there goes the flaw in his thinking because it would have been the same thing: His instruction in his website is to sell it in ebay, buyer pays and I don't have to send him any money until I receive positive feeback which is indication of receipt. Now correct me if I'm wrong, isn't that the same thing as him sending it to me and I pay him once I verify the goods? At first I thought this guy is a criminal genius if he's been able to pull this off. Now after giving him the run around for the past two days and evaluating his frame of thought, this guy is an idiot. I was giving him too much credit initially. He counters saying he'll do it for $400. I mean $400 for a Beta Booster Box? Holy crap, I'll buy the whole lot (he says he has 3). Needless to say, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt because part of me was wishing this was real so I can make some good money reselling. I have buyers wiling to fly from New York to pick it up as well. Well, I offered to meet in person with a couple of buyers, cash in hand, including myself and he balked. Like anybody's surprised right. Anyways, here's his IP address if anybody wants to do anything with it: 98.138.90.252 His other phone number is 850-559-7194. Heck, I can even start another thread with just that phone number's history. Oh by the way, either he did it himself of found a sucker but I found an ebay auction with the same exact words he wanted me to use. It was taken down right after I called him out on his scam. I regret not taking a screenshot at first but total rookie work. User had zero reviews (scam alert 1), priced too low (scam alert 2), ebay ID was only made yesterday (scam alert 3), had no actual pictures, only generic stock pics (scam alert 4). And what is it with calling himself "Dr". That right there raised some flags with me. I have a lot of friends who are either medical doctors or has a doctorate degree and none of them introduces themselves as Dr. so-and-so. Well, just wanted to put info out there so I can assist in exposing this moron of a scam artist.
