Just busted a pack and want to see where opinions are (I've not been able to draft much Innistrad, so looking to see where my opinions are in relation to how others who may have actually drafted more may feel.

Ashmouth Hound
Woodland Sleuth
Thraben Purebloods
Orchard Spirit
Spidery Grasp
Brimstone Volley
Selhoff Occultist
Manor Skeleton
Abattoir Ghoul
Bramblecrush
Trepanation Blade
Stitched Drake
Grimoire of the Dead
Gatstaf Shepherd

I don't know how powerful (or not powerful) Grimoire is in limited, so barring any unforeseen brokenness with that card, I'm assuming the auto-pick here is Brimstone Volley? The best cards I see in this pack are:
Brimstone Volley
Stitched Drake
Gatstaf Shepherd
Abattoir Ghoul

Also, anyone have any opinions on Trepanation Blade? Playing against it in sealed felt like it was insane, how is it in draft?

Discuss

What about Man or Skeleton?

I like him he's very good, he regenerates and blocks things all day.

You take the burn spell here.

Either take and build around Grim or take the all around best card in Volley.

How would you go about building around Grimoire? Flashback cards and fatties? I mean, how would your priorities change with a potential bomb like this?

I would probably look to either build the Burning Vengeance deck or the more likely U/B zombie deck. Grim is a great enabler in that deck, and you won't have to draft the 1/4s as high.

Grimoire of the Dead is an absolute bomb in limited. There are not a lot of artifact destruction spells, and when it goes off it is pretty hard to come back from. It seams bad when you look at it, but after playing against it a few times, I would slam it 1st pick.

Gimor of the dead may take over the game, but there are a few problems with it.

A) it literally does nothing for 4 turns
B) in order to live long enough to draw it/activate it, you have to not lose, means you have a decent enough deck as is.

In sealed it gets better, because decks are generally less focused, and it can actually win a game or just be card #23. But in draft, slamming Volley.

Brimstone Volley is definately the best card in that pack, but I guess I could see stiched drake too.

Personally, I don't like to draft Red in this set. Brimestone Volley would be okay for me because I could splash it.

I would take the Volley pretty quickly. I've done quite a few drafts and always end up being Red/X. Red has fast creatures and plenty of removal, both which are needed in sealed.

I've found red really isn't that deep unless you get a strong pool. Volley is good, but nothing else is particularly amazing.

I've had pretty good success in red. I think the trick is to take bad creatures. Red has Night Revelers that often go late. It isn't a great card, but it is a respectable sized creature. I think the trick comes into the R/X part of the equation. I often win off the back of white fliers or black adding additional removal support and cards like Moan of the Unhallowed to grind the game out. White has to be one of the better colors in innistrad limited, but backing it up w/ red removal is a solid plan.

Every time I've played Grimoire of the Dead onto the table, it has won me the game. I'd take it over volley.

Once you get a Grimoire, just draft Forbidden Alchemy and the blue looter guy. If you are u/b or u/w (with a random swamp + traveller's amulet OR a random Isolated Chapel), it isn't hard to draft a generally defensive deck.

At least that has been my experience... I've had Grimoire in one draft and one sealed. (So far.)

Brimstone Volley.

It's not remotely close.

i personally would be torn on the volley and the gasthaf. i also noticed you asked a question and no one even tried to answer it so i shall. Trepanation blade is 100% luck based you have to hope to hit a non-land pocket of cards. i do not think 5 mana is worth the luck, i have swong with the blade 15 times total now and i have milled an awesome number of 20 cards total. i have hit land on first try 90% of time. i would think hard about thre grimoire and i wonder just how good it can be i have yet to play with or against it.

not sure why but i do not see my post, so ill repost it. i think gastaf and volley are the best cards here, i have no experience with grimoire and i may think about experimenting. on the issue of the trepenation blade, i think it is crap. i have attacked with it equipped 15 times and milled a grand total of 20 cards.

IMO, volley is a great splash but wouldn't be my first pick. out of that pack I would of taken stitched drake.

Grimoire I have tried in draft and I find it failed me more than anything. took too long and the discarding wasn't beneficial considering most people try to draft heavy creatures and I would need to keep up with the punishment. Volley is good, but 3 mana for 3 damage may not be worth it all the time. morbid isn't guarunteed. Stitched drake is a beauty, especially when complimented with a stitchers apprentice.

At least, that's my opinion and would of been my first. volley would of been second pick.

So you're telling me that you're committed to blue on the 1st pick? Volley is splashable and the drake is not so unless I'm already in blue, I wouldn't take the drake over the volley.
