I have a couple vintage decks that are great at doing two things:

1) Beating your opponent quickly.
2) Collecting dust.

Nobody seems to play vintage anymore. Everybody around here plays standard and EDH, and don't get me wrong - those are both fun formats. I'll even admit that they're probably more fun than vintage - lets be honest, either I'm dead within the first few turns or my opponent is - but it kills me that these decks, by far the best I've ever made, they're worth thousands, they're packed with cards that were agonizingly difficult to attain, and they never see the light of day. I'm like Gollum, stroking the cards and muttering "my precioussssss."

I try to rationalize keeping them - I pretend to keep them as an investment plan for when P9, workshops, etc inevitably rise in value. But part of me worries that workshops might get restricted one day and drop in value.

What do we do with vintage decks? Keep them locked away? Sell them? Trade them for newer cards?

alot of those older cards are collectors items, like gold age comic books, but not to that level.

I keep my charbelcher deck together because it took me almost 6 years to get the money to buy the moxen for it... just have the lotus left to go maybe one of these days I will finally finish it.

Its alot of fun to take it to FNM once in awhile to show the younger kids what a real deck can do. Last time they thought the moxen were just cards I made up.

I'm with you. When I still had power, it sat in the safe for almost a year before I finally decided it was time to sell.

Vintage was dead in the area and I just didn't have the time to travel to the limited number of events in the region. I loved having the cards and enjoyed the chance to play with them, but I really could not justify keeping them after the value had more than tripled what I paid for them.

It also didn't hurt that this was around the time we were house hunting and the extra cash helped provide a buffer for those "new home" expenses. Instead of power, I now have nicely refinished hardwood floors. I guess that's better.

I used my power for highlander when it wasn't being used in vintage. Putting your decks away and playing other formats isn't a bad thing. Every time I lose interest in magic I sell my cards and a year later when I pick it back up again all the cards I sold are worth way more. I'll never own A/B duals ever again because of this.

I would be happy to do this but power is not allowed in EDH, except for timetwister - which should hardly even be considered power. I had a workshop in my arcum dagsson deck but took it out since it didn't really do much. What I'd really like to put in arcum is time vault but that's banned too.

Sold my lotus already. The moxes, ancestral, walk, and time vault are next (I've got CE for my cube). I'll hang onto the twister since I can play it in EDH. Also looking at selling off half my playset of drains. It all just sits around in boxes. Might as well let it pay some of my bills.

Sad thing is, I've got several cards worth more then power that I don't even consider parting with. Seal, beta seas, etc all can be used in EDH.

Its neat to have to say you own it, but I've found I'm okay with saying I've owned it too.

I've never had a desire to buy power since most of the vintage tournaments were 9 proxy tournaments but I was never in a strong vintage playing area to begin with either. My only vintage deck is almost completely foil to the point where it's impossible to foil out the cards because they were never made as foils.

I hold onto mine... I've never been dissapointed in holding onto cards, many times I've been dissapointed selling things though, so unless I somehow get in debt to the mob I doubt I'd part with much of my Vintage collection.

I don't get to play it too much, a few times a year something pops up where people want to play Type 1 and it's always a blast.

I have a fully powered Tez deck sitting on the shelf, haven't played it for over a year now.

(It probably needs tuning)

That's not because of a lack of places to play, just that the events always coincide with me working unfortunately.

I think I still have my "Suicide Black" deck put together(minus the Lotus and Jet) somewhere from back in the day. I made top 8 in a vintage tournament at Gencon. Best finish I ever had so I kept it sleeved up and in a deck box.

I have tons of Vintage tourneys by me, so my Vintage deck gets used just as much as Standard and EDH some weeks.

I am yet another person with the blues that has tried to cheer others and myself up with trying to run weekend legacy // vintage tournaments at our small town store for prizes like old dual lands or booster boxes. While there has been little turn out, I figured that someone had to get these started around the area after SCG stopped doing Roanoke Power 9 and Duel for Duals tournaments. The idea that made me think about the blues was from the whole "if you build it, they will come" scene from field of dreams. Well.... starting small with only a few people and advertising on open, public forums for free is better than doing nothing at all to boost the local vintage // legacy scene.

It can happen. Myself and 3 other guys started playing 1 dollar highlander every monday night. 3 years later there is a solid 16-20 players every week with decent prizes. (duals etc..) It doesnt happen overnight.

I play vintage and I'm actively trying to buy/trade for more vintage cards, especially alpha and beta playables. The vintage scene around here is pretty much non-existent, but I don't play enough MTG to really notice. My enjoyment is mostly driven by nostalgia, but I do find the occasional pick-up game at a local store (I provide the decks). It's funny how many new players have never seen a mox.
