I could be completely insane here, but I thought that I heard of an equipment that lets you search for a 1/1 creature and put that creature into play.

But I am thinking about it and it just sounds broken... am I crazy?

You are on crack. That card would be WAY TOO GOOD unless it cost a fortune to cast. If it didn't it would just cost a fortune to buy instead.

Yeah... I think the card I am thinking of was citanul flute
but its not what I thought it was...

Ramosian Sergeant, Cateran Persuader. They are like equipment but can also attack and have stats. And Sergeant cannot be Saltblasted!

the closest to that is skullclamp and it's pretty much banned everywhere.
