Walking through Books-a-Million with my son and saw a generic 'retail' pack of magic cards. The cards were in a see through blister with a cardboard backer. the cards were back facing toward me so I couldn't see what they were.

30 cards, 2.99. I figured, ok, I gotta know what this is. Figured it wouldn't be anything special, but my curiosity got the best of me.

Opened it up and all crap generics. One card was badly bent, but I did get a big laugh. There was NM revised Lance in the pack of common lowryn, guildpact, dissension, innistrad stuff.

Now, has anyone ever seen a generic pack like this and bought one?

Yes, they sell them at Walmart and Target as well. I haven't bought a 2.99 one but have bought a 9.99 one.

I opened one a couple years ago, best card I got was a silence. Was 3 packs worth of cards. Looked like they were produced by a secondary company to dump bad cards. From Target.

My wife picked up a few of these from the Dollar store and they had like 8 cards in each and they were all crap.

I remember getting something similar after buying 5 of these at wal-mart for $3 each, only to get no rares or foils inside. Surprisingly, Wal-Mart was willing to give me a full refund after I explained that the packs normally contain at least 1 rare or foil and the packs I got were defective (until I realized months later that someone in some shady corner of Magic Land has been making these junk packs with worthless cards and often no rares to sell through big stores for a steep mark up!). Bottom line, I refuse to buy these and would suggest that the buyer beware.

I have to admit that I am usually a sucker for these, but the ones I normally go for have a sealed booster pack, 20-30 loose cards, and a "bonus card" of some sort (usually a random foil).

One time, I got a three-booster set with said bonus card (back-facing, of course) and it turned out to be a Fire/Lightning version of Figure of Destiny. I went back the next weekend and bout another, and got a Fire/Lightning Barbarian Ring, lol. So, they seem to be pretty random.

I bought one of those dealies that had 2 decks in them and one was the entire Fire & Lightning sealed pack portion. It was just missing the "display" cards from the deck.

The other deck was crap but I was satisfied with the results for only $10-ish

Yeah, I picked up one of those a while back that had the same sealed F&I, plus the other side was a Commander deck minus the oversized cards. I usually avoid the repack things, but as soon as I saw the Commander deck, I couldn't pass that one up, the F&I was just a nice bonus.
