Hey all,I need some wisdom on a card. I have what I think is an Unlimited German Volcanic Island. I've compared it to my English revised Volcanics, and it's much darker. The people who have seen it all say it's unlimited. Here's the issue: the date on the bottom says "1995". Unlimited cards in English say 1994. Is there a difference in the date because the card is foreign? Anyone with expertise - help?

No such thing as unlimited foreign wb. It's FWB, they just have a little darker ink. Unlimited cards don't have copyright dates. Who are all the guys giving you this info? They have no internet?

surefire way to tell the difference between unlimited and revised:Check the border. You have your outer layer (black or white) and the inner layer before faceplate. There is a thin second border between these two. In revised, there is a single line. In unlimited, there are two lines.

you're very much mistaken. Firstly, as pointed out, unlimited was not printed in non-English languages. Beyond that, Unlimited cards do not have 1994 printed on them.

FWB comes in only FWB, Unlimited is english only, revised english has the 1994 date on it, unlimited doesn't. FWB editions were there own print run seperate from both english unlimited and english revised.

wrong answer 7 times then ................ lolthe reason might be... its in Italian and not german... I just checked my few Italian Revised FWB duals and the ALL have a 1995 date ... next interresting fact about them : Italian WHITE duals have the nowadays (or at the time probably 4th edition) plains symbol instead of their original Alpha,Beta,Unlimited,Revised FBB and Revised plains symbol ...

Actually, your answer is not completely correct. This is probably why there is so much confusion. This is correct: "Unlimited cards don't have copyright dates". The cards from the 1993 core set printing are indeed Unlimited and say so on the booster pack. Another poster correctly points out that this version is English only. This is, however, incorrect: "No such thing as unlimited foreign wb". Look at this link: http://www.dacardworld.com/gaming/magic-the-gathering-german-unlimited-booster-pack It's in German, but the translation is not that hard: Unlimitierte Auflage --> Unlimited Edition Booster Packung --> Booster Pack So, how can the above two seemingly exclusive assertions be resolved? Wizards began translating cards into other languages in 1994, too late for the Unlimited edition. But they translated the Revised core set into Italian, French and German. The correct name for these versions are printed on the booster packs: Edizione Italiana Edition Limitee Limitierte Auflage These are commonly known as Foreign Black Border (FBB), Foreign Beta, etc. Close, but not totally correct. For French and German, at least, the correct name is French Limited and German Limited. Then, in 1995, Wizards was getting swamped with versions and released two core sets in Italian, French and German back-to-back. Revised was translated again into the 3 languages and released as (see above for proof): Seconda Edizione Tirage Non Limite Unlimitierte Auflage These are commonly known as Foreign White Border (FWB). Close, but not completely correct. For French and German, at least, the correct name is French Unlimited and German Unlimited.
The second set in 1995? Fourth edition was translated into Italian, French, German and 5 other languages. The first 3 were released in white border, the last 5 in black border. There were no duals in this set. So, to answer the OP correctly, here's how you should have replied: If the German Volcanic Island is black-bordered and copyright 1994, it is German Limited. If the German Volcanic Island is white-bordered and copyright 1995, it is German Unlimited. Hope this helps, tryst

And you are wrong. Unlimited is an actual Magic set just like Avacyn Restored or M13. Unlimited was a reprint of Alpha/Beta in white bordered cards and contained 302 cards including Black Lotus, Ancestral, Time Walk, ect. It was printed in English only. There is NO German Unlimited. The first set printed in German was REVISED. There is a Limited Edition of German Revised and an Unlimited Edition of German Revised. If you want to say the FWB dual is German Unlimited Revised or German Revised Unlimited Edition that would be correct. To say it is German Unlimited is not. The OPs question was Revised or Unlimited. The correct answer is Revised. http://www.magiclibrarities.net/sets-unlimited-edition.html http://www.magiclibrarities.net/sets-revised-edition.html

Beware the 1994 date, this signifies Edgar/Summer. A lot more valuable than ordinary Revised.
