Does anyone here collect artist proof cards?

If I'm interested in artist proofs for particular recent cards that I like, what's the best way to get them? If they're not on eBay, do you think I'd have any luck just emailing the artists directly and asking about them? Or is there some big site out there that buys up all of them for resale that I should look at first?

Email the artists to buy them, most are more than happy to sell them to you.

If you need help locating a particular artist, PM me and I'll help you out.

And to answer your question, yes, there are quite a few members here, including myself, that collect proofs.

thanks for the reply Thanos.

Also, do you know how much people typically pay to get artist proofs directly from artists when they have to mail it to you too? e.g., is it usually like $5-$10 each, $20-$50 each, $100-$200 each, etc?

$5-$10 each.

Some artists don't sell them, but quite a few of them do. Good luck in your quest - AP's are one of my favorite MtG collectibles

Take it easy,
Jared

It really depends on the artist.

Most are $5 each plus shipping costs, but some charge more.

Others start out at $5 and raise the prices as they start to run out of them.

Artists can price their artist proofs whatever they want.

By the way, when was the foreign language artist proofs ceased?

Another good way to obtain proofs is to attend (or find a friend who is attending) conventions and/or major tournaments. Often the MtG artists that attend those events will bring proofs for sale.

I love proofs, and what is great is you can often get artists to draw on the back of them for you...definately worth the money to have that done if you are buying 3 or 4 proofs in the first place.

Just to confirm. Was FBB Japanese after Ice Age? I only ask because I have a set of them from Jeff Menges and I could have sworn those were out before Ice Age.

I know of FBB Japanese ( which is 4th?), what was first IA or 4th, whichever is, the other would be the last foreign languaged proofs.

Ice age was 1995.
Japanese 4th edition was 1996.
There is no Japanese Ice Age except for CS reprints and four cards released as a promo years later by Takara Tomy.

Hey implode,

Love those sketches, especially Donato's stuff - very nice. I have some of mine shown here...

Thulnanth's sketched AP's

As I said, one of my favorite MtG collectibles

Take it easy,
Jared

For the kids out there that have ever peered into the doorway and saw a room of men sitting around in tieless suits, puffing on cigars, sipping scotch and wondered "what sort of collection do they have?"; this ^
