So Ive been reminiscing recently about "the good ol days" of magic and heres what I remember:I remember sealed boxes for $20. I remember selling Pete Hoeffling 4x Giant Growths at a PTQ in Charlotte BEFORE there ever was a Star City Games. I remember playing on top of comic book boxes at Daddy Jims Comics. I remember talking about magic, vegas, blackjack, and pretty much anything else with Daddy Jim at his tournaments. I remember(and survived) Necro Summer. I remember the Dojo. I remember buying a collection consisting of a mixed(but complete) Alpha/Beta set, 4x legends/arabian nights/antiquities/and every set through Urzas block for $14000 and at the time thinking i overpaid. I remember $20 beta moxen and loti. i remember when Balduvian Hordes, Kaysa, Lake of the Dead, and Arcane Denial were all worth more than Force of Will. I remember piling 12 people into a van to go to GP Columbus and it being the best road trip ever. I remember wearing a t-shirt saying "so many christians, so few lions" through the middle of a baptist convention at Gp Columbus. I remember the Guru program, and arena league, and top 8 PTQ pins. These are but a few of the things i remember. Chime in and add your own.

I remember DCI membership cards that looked like credit cardsI remember Duelist Issue #1 I remember the term "Mr. Suitcase" I remember Vanguard I remember a time when card sleeves were unheard of I remember people (myself included) who would get upset when their rare was a (dual) land. I remember my first three packs of The Dark and the Maze of Ith in one of them (I still have it). I rememeber Phil & Kaja Foglio's fun art. I remember Serra Angels being a super hot trade item along with Craw Giants and Killer Bees (before Chronicles). I remember a 9 person, 10 hour game we had with our decks having way more than 60 cards - we used to build decks by tossing in all the cards we owned in the colors we played, before we knew about the 4 card limit.

This was me when I started playing. I also just happen to start during onslaught... I traded away multiple fetchlands for nothing... I remember... - Playing Magic at lunch during highschool. - Being terrified of a Trained Orgg when I first saw it hit the table. (I didn't know they made creatures that big). - Going out to purchase the 7th ed starting pack so I could get my hands on not one, but two trained orgg, 2 vizzerdrix, and the almighty thorn elemental. - Trading big for a set of Jackal Pups. - The first deck I designed myself (Mono Black rolling with an average CMC of 6----> and "fixing" that problem with a playset of dark rituals. I can't believe i was so bad at magic... EDIT: I also remember when damage went on the stack... I was very sad coming back after a few years to find out my Thrashing Wampus was handicapped.

(started playing around Mirrodin)I remember trying to buy one of those super cool theme decks that my cousin, who had taught me to play, had - preferably a green one. Went to the card store, all I saw were these theme deck box-thingies but they didn't have any dots on top! So my first purchase was a tournament pack. Open it up, hoping to get super-awesome equipment... and stared in disbelief and disappointment at what I had pulled. A card that only added one mana to your mana pool, AND you had to exile something from your hand to do so? God, what good was a Chrome Mox? And the other one wasn't any better - what if my opponent had a deck with a whole bunch of different converted mana costs? Chalice of the Void would only help against realistically like a fifth of their deck! Did the double X's mean I could set two different values? Maybe then it would be mildly useful. Aaaah, noob days... I miss 'em. __________________ It is a known fact that more Americans watch the television than any other appliance.

I remember when our decks were, literally, three tiers big.I remember drain powering my friend for 99 to cast a stream of life for 168. I remember when we didn't understand how "tap" worked, and conservator was the BEST CARD EVER! Pay three as many times as you can and then tap it to protect the next xx points in damage! sweet! I remember keeping all my cards in a huge blue duffle bag, loose. Except the decks, they were rubber banded together and kept in cookie tins, unsleeved of course. I remember playing Magic on the 4th floor at CCRI - Warwick. I remember the campus ministry lady always coming by to preach to us how we're going to kill each other, because we're pretending to cast spells at each other. I remember my friends nicknaming her "The Holy Roller" because she was in a wheelchair. I remember that, every time she rolled on by, we'd shout out the most evil card we could think of. "DEMONIC TUTOR!" "WRATH OF GOD!" I remember my friends cringing when I'd slam my duffle on a table. They tried so hard to get me to use sleeves. I remember my friend getting upset, screaming at my (at the time)boyfriend and storming out of my bf's house, all because I'd copied his deck, only with cheaper cards (IE: Dragon Welps instead of Shivan's, Clones instead of Dopplegangers) and won. I remember that same friend's girlfriend calling my boyfriend and asking how he could stand to be with me and calling me all sorts of names, all because of the game. There's so very much I remember, so many things that happened because of this simple game. I made some really great friends because of it, still have them too. Thanks, Jazaray

I remember tournaments when: The person who went first also got to draw. There was only one mulligan and only if you had all or no lands (still got to draw 7 though). The magazine articles where they never could figure out if the Benalish Hero was able to get the Holy Armor on and survive the opponent's Lightning Bolt. Trading a Mirror Universe for 2 Mana Batteries just after Legends came out and thinking I did OK. Reading and laughing hysterically at the Duelist article "You know you've been playing too much Magic when:"

Friend: As a fast effect I Counterspell your Tidal KrakenMe: As a faster effect I Counterspell your Counterspell Friend: You can't do that, my Counterspell is faster Me: What? Friend: My Counterspell is an interrupt (Mirage or something) and yours is an instant (MM). Interrupts are faster than instants Me: Really? But they are both Counterspells Friend: That's how it works, let's ask Roger Roger: He's right, interrupts are faster than instants Me: Well that's stupid, I am taking these out of my deck and I want to trade you for your Counterspells later

I remember getting Arena and Mana Crypt in the mail and thinking Mana Crypt was the worst card ever printed.I remember when Kird Ape was banned. I remember when Birds of Paradise with an Instill Energy on it meant the game was about to get really boring. I remember sleeping in a run down trailor with no power in the freezing cold just so I could get to the JSS on time (that was devotion to the game).

Yep, and I remember that Orcish Spy was soooo super awesome cause you could look at the top three cards of the different stacks of your deck to help you decide which one you wanted to draw from next.

I remember Black Vise being restricted. I remember cloud of faeries, etc. being erata'd. I remember my first card - Plague Rats, circa 1995.

Cool thread...I remember Inquest and cownose. I remember having so much Alliances that I used to GIVE my friends my extra Force of Wills so we all would have a playset. I remember Shivan Dragon and Royal Assassin being the ****. I remember my 1st Revised booster (my first booster ever) containg a Volcanic Island. I remember my Green/White Ernham-geddon deck that was awesome. I remember my Necropotence deck that was even better. I remember when we thought walls could attack. I remember when we thought a circle of protection: white protected our creatures from Wrath of God, and if I ever got those 2 crds together it was usually good game. I'm sure I can remember more, but I'll have to add later. ~MM __________________ Blah, blah, blah werewolf. Smackity-smack not a werewolf. Suspicious of this fruit loop. I remember:My first pack ever was sixth edition - Soul Syphon had cool art! My second pack ever had Masticore - I had no idea... Trading said masticore for a 5th edition colossus of sardia + Dawrven Lieutenant. The guy told me they were "so old" they didn't have rarity indicators! Learning how to build decks by reading some of the old books written about tempest block standard... I think the deck was Tradewind Riders or something. Trading based on Scrye Playing in the library at school during lunch, to the point that the lunch people would come remind us to get lunch Getting super peeved when one of the older kids played a prank on us - making an announcement during the morning that magic was banned at school due to its violent nature Type 1 Having the uber conservative mom of a friend I loaned a deck to steal my cards because they were demonic - i never did get them back. Selling my entire collection to the LGS because I needed gas money - when wastelands were $5 and duals were $25 Getting back into magic in 2010, and being here to stay!

Flametongue rules. I remember reaching my first (and only ) Top 8 with my R/G Zoo deck. I remember playing Shandalar on the computer at the point of addiction. I remember cursing PC's as they became faster so I couldn't play Shandalar anymore. I remember my first prerelease (Torment) beating my brother-in-law And I remember being dragged by my brother-in-law to GP Amsterdam years ago, playing shotgun against the pro's which ended up netting me 1 Beta Booster and him nothing. I remember trying to skim the pack but never succeeding, only opening it in the end to find a Mox Sapphire. I remember having a hard time trying to solve the puzzles in the Duelist I remember having good times. Still do! EDIT: I remember getting ripped by HolyAce (Ace Spader) on MTGNews.com for approx. 1000 USD before I came to this site I remember seeing the light when I started trading here. MOTL rules!

Haha yeah. We would cut to the left and reveal the top three cards from the cut. The deck's owner would put one in the ante pile and the other two on the bottom of their deck. Ah the awesome multi-player days during revised.

LOL. I remember trading a Finkel for two Bayou. 3 Anurid Brushhopper for 3 Taiga (all revised). I sent 3 Urza's Rage for Final Fantasy 3 for SNES (FF6). I remember spending my lunch money to get like Pit Scorpions for my deck. Won a vintage tournament with my Chimera deck by goldfishing a turn 4 lethal Kaervek's Torch twice in a row. Got $15 in store credit and proceeded to use it on some crappy dragons for my dragon collection instead of the $10 a piece Revised duals in the display case. I remember my first draft was 7th, Fallen Empires, Fallen Empires because the store owner cracked all the new packs... Made a 60 card RW deck like a total n00b and lost badly. First trade I did on here was some stuff for an Urza's Incubator (for the Chimera deck). Dude sent me a beat up Rejuvenation Chamber without a sleeve instead! I remember picking up a Mishra's Workshop for like 3 Seedtime . Then selling it for like $45 before it skyrocketed.

Crappy dragons was way cooler than duals or moxens. If it wasn't for the internet, it would still be. I remember trading a morphling for a pit spawn and felt like Donald Trump because of how hard I just ripped that guy off
