Has anyone had this come up for them where there is a 25% import charge added to an item.I just purchased a couple items http://www.ebay.ca/itm/230895663767?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 When i go to checkout there is an $8.18 import charge. This was obviously hidden from me partially or i wouldn't have bid.

Never seen that before. And I can't seem to find anything on the bid page that says anything about potential import charges. Has Canada enacted any new trade policy changes recently?

Pretty sure free trade with the US still stands. I sent a message to the seller asking what was up. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

When? It's free to send from Canada to the US. I don't recall it ever being free from US to Canada.

It actually says "import charge" on the ebay checkout form? It's not the currency conversion fee?

Yes it does, the buyer got back to me asking how much extra the shipping is. Considering i'm already willing to pay the $15 for registered I don't feel i should have to pay about $12-14 for hidden "fees" __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

I looked online and found nothing. If you ask on the ebay discussion boards under "Packaging and Shipping" you'll get an answer within 5 minutes. Random people live on those boards answering questions 24 hours a day. It sounds like PST or VAT or whatever it's called in Canada, but I've never heard of it being charged at checkout.

If it was tax it would show as tax I've bought new items from a Canadian seller before and the tax is shown as specifically tax. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 12000+ posts 1st in posts in Ontario 2nd in posts in Canada 10th in posts on MOTL 5th in Refs in Ontario Pushing to get to top 100 in MOTL Refs

http://pages.ebay.ca/shipping/globalshipping/buyer-tnc.htmlThe relevant portion seems to be something like: quote:
The following additional Global Shipping Program Buyer Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) apply to your purchase of items on eBay.ca through the Global Shipping Program (“Program”): 1.Nature of the Program. Your seller (“Seller”) has chosen to make certain items, which your Seller has listed on eBay.com, available for delivery to Canada (among other locations outside of the United States) through the Program (“GSP Item(s)”), along with certain parcel processing, domestic and international shipping, and customs clearance services (collectively, the “Services”) that are being offered to you by a third party global technology and shipping provider, Pitney Bowes Inc. (“Pitney Bowes”). The pricing that is displayed to you at checkout is inclusive of all shipping and import charges associated with these Services, as described further below. a.Description of the Services. By purchasing a GSP Item from your Seller, you will be entering into a binding contract with your Seller for the purchase of the GSP Item. You will also be entering into an agreement directly with Pitney Bowes on the terms set forth in these Terms for the provision of the following Services in connection with your order: i.Parcel processing service. Your Seller shall, upon receipt of your cleared payment, ship the GSP Item to a parcel processing facility located in the United States (“U.S. Shipping Center”), which is managed by Pitney Bowes and operated by a third party logistics provider. Pitney Bowes will oversee the sorting and processing of the GSP Item at the U.S. Shipping Center in preparation for international shipment. ii.International shipping and tracking service. Pitney Bowes will arrange for the international shipment of your order from the U.S. Shipping Center by a third party shipping carrier (or carriers) to the delivery address designated by you. You and your Seller will be able to track the international shipment of your order from the United States to the designated delivery address within My eBay. iii.Customs service. Based on information provided by your Seller and obtained during the processing of your order, Pitney Bowes will manage the exportation and, through third party customs brokers, the importation clearance of GSP Items that you have purchased including, as applicable, remitting your payment of import charges to applicable customs and tax authorities, preparing required documentation, making necessary filings, and providing customs authorities with information needed to clear the shipment through customs.
On the auction page it also has "Import charges: to be provided at checkout" What it sounds like is a third-party service through Pitney Bowes to ensure tracking to international countries. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to charge the $8 and the $13 though, it looks like double-charging for shipping to me, though I don't really know what's going on with that program. I don't know anything about it, TBH, other than the 5 minutes of research I just did.
