After a loooong sabbatical, I've started to get back into MtG since my son had started playing recently. To give you an idea how long it's been, the last Block I collected was Mercadian Masques. Anyway, can someone give me the quick and dirty of some of the major changes that might have taken place? I read up on some of the powers and abilities that were added and I think I have a good grasp on them. I also know that most decks are dual color now as opposed to the mono-colored when I played. What are some of the current popular T2 decks? The cheaper the better I guess since my geek money is split between this and Hero Clix currently (deck doesn't have to be great, just half-way competitive). I enjoy playing Green the most with the big honkin' creatures. I know there was a pre-construct deck I recently played that intrigues me. It was based around creatures that got +1/+1 counters on them if you cast a creature that had a greater power OR toughness than they did. I played it pretty badly, but it was fun. Anyway, thanks in advance for the help!

Honestly, just look at "decks of the week" on magicthegathering.com. It will give you an idea of what's seeing play in each format. It should be under the "daily activity" section. As to what's changed...there were some rules tweaks a few years ago on how combat damage works. The key part was that damage no longer goes on the stack, so you have to respond to it before it happens for creature buffs/regeneration. As for "cheap" T2 decks, anything competitive is going to run you a couple hundred dollars. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

checkout mtggoldfish.com and look at the meta section. This is progressive as the trends start online for those who net deck.__________________ Type and hit enter for quick TCG prices: www.echomage.com

Combat damage does not use the stack.Mana burn does not exist. If multiple legendary permanents are in play they all get sacrificed (back in masques the first one out got to stay). Planeswalker is a new card type that was added.

The first three I was not aware of. Good to know for sure. Thanks everyone, keep 'em coming.

A lot of wording has changed too. "Play" has been replaced with "cast", i.e. "As you play this spell" is now "As you cast this spell". "comes into play" is now "As/When this enters the battlefield". The difference between As and When is that you can usually respond to "When" effects after the permanent is already on the battlefield. The biggest example would be Iona, Shield of Emeria. Her EtB ability reads "As Iona, Shield of Emeria enters the battlefield, choose a color. Your opponents can't cast spells of the chosen color.", which essentially means that you can't doom blade her if your opponent names black, but you can doom blade something else he controls before she actually hits the field.
