So i was about to order 280 dollars worth of cards... untill they wanted to charge 48 dollars for shipping!

wth?

its 4 cards. shipped for 48 dollars.

any other major store thats more reasonable?

They offer shipping options based on the total value. If you split the order into more parts, you'll get cheaper options. Yes, it sounds stupid, but you can get better price if you place several separate orders. Just note that there won't be any tracking with the basic USPS shipping.

I am rather shocked at that amount unless you bought separate high-value // large size lots.

I usually have found that shipping with insurance + international registered mail has run me about $13.00 - $20.00 at the post office even on large card, high-value sales ~~ IE mailing to someone living in Germany around $750.00 worth of Magic cards. I can only guess that they are not aware of USPS offering relatively affordable international shipping costs with tracking // insurance.

I may be only a small-store magic dealer that occasionally shows up now on MOTL due to running a business, but even I know that $48.00 for shipping to Europe better include having those sent to you in a card box made of silver or gold.


As I live about 1 hour away from them, even getting smaller things shipped to my house have some really inflated charges (I was charged $4.95 shipping for delivery confirmation in a regular envelope when I bought 8 Cryptic Commands pre-ordered for $3.49 each!). For that reason, unless I am absolutely desperate, I tend to avoid buying from them, as most stores & dealers on sites like Ebay tend to have reasonable shipping charges + the cards cost about 70-85% of the SCG price with shipping + VA state taxes included in that figure.

I would suggest just get somebody in USA (like Jazaray) to buy them for you and then ship them.

Yeah Lemon, that might be the best way to go.

for the curious, im buying something quite rare (foregin) that i cant find anywhere else. (and scg is having a sale on foregin items).

its not on magiccardmarket, not even 1. and I need 4.

Assuming they probably require to add for registered mail plus shipping pretty much anything in a bubble mailer internationally is now anywhere from $8-10 I can see that the shipping cost for SCG would actually be about half so $24 shipping would not be unreasonable at all but I don't know where they came up with $48 shipping unless they sent priority.

I went to a starcity event in Birmingham last year and traded in a bunch of bulk for store credit. Before I left for the event, I checked to see if they had the card in stock. When I got to the venue, they hadn't brought the card with them. Long story short, I ended up having to pay $9 and change for them (the absolute cheapest option they had) to ship me a card worth a little over a hundred dollars. Their shipping charges are insane.

I'm a big fan of Starcity in a lot of ways, but I have definitely abandoned several $300+ orders when I got to the shipping page.

http://trollandtoad.com/ Free international shipping on orders over $200 that come via UPS 3 day. I ordered in the Tuesday evening in NZ and was able to pick up from UPS depot on the Thursday evening.

Strikezoneonline also has cheap shipping ($1 if you don't need expedited service) and is a good reliable company.

Troll and Toad is to Starcity as gas station burritos are to Mazatlan. It's always cheaper, but eventually it'll catch up to you. They once sent me $100 worth of cards in a team bag, loose in a cardboard box with a plush toy. The package rattled when shaken.
