I'm going to be hosting a unique tournament in the weeks to come. Its going to be a sealed deck, non sanctioned tournament with standard 5-7 round bracket elimination. Each player will have 1 deck and the 1 booster pack from each set in that decks' block (example, Urza's Saga Deck, Urza's Legacy Booster, Urza's Destiny Booster) Each player will pick randomly a bag with the above, there will be 1 block each of everything from Ice Age up to Time Spiral, no core sets included, only expansions (Ice Age through Tempest Block will have additional booster pack because those starter decks only had 60 cards, starting with Urza's Saga, starter decks had 75) If its assumed everyone in the tournament was of near equal skill, which block SHOULD win? Thoughts?

But it's sealed, not draft.I'd hate that, because if you happen to have the bad luck to get a crappy block, you're just screwed by whoever got Urza. Now, if you put all the packs into a pile and -drafted- them, then you'd be cooking with fire.

Saga didn't really have a powerful limited format. The best non-rare card was pestilence. The creatures aren't anything like todays creatures. For limited, I think I would prefer something in the zendikar block or maybe even innistrad or something along those lines.

You're talking about a precon deck? The Urza's precons decks weren't that great, you'd have to get a crazy bomb from your pack. I might even hope for something infect if it comes to precons. Or Rat's Nest.

I'm not talking about precon (I don't think the other posters were either, but I don't know for sure), my tournament is going to be 15 players, each will get 1 actual starter deck (3 rares, 11 uncommons, 36 commons, 25 lands, rulebook), and 2 booster packs from the other 2 sets in the block of that deck. Each player will select their block blind (so nobody knows who got what set until they're all picked)
