I recently acquired a small magic card collection, (mostly in binders/card protectors) from a household with a LOT of cigarette smoke. Before I add them to my collection or even try to trade some of the better cards, is there a good way to cleanse the smoke smell? I've tried baking soda in a plastic bag with some of them, for days, and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. The binders are plastic and cloth materials, I figure I can run them through the dishwasher or washing machine. I soaked the plastic sleeves in hot water with dish soap, that fixed the smell on them, but drying them was next to impossible, so I tossed them. The cards themselves though seems to be the difficult part. Any suggestions?

you're really just going to have to air them out. toss the binders, not worth ruining an appliance for a $10 binder. if you can, set them up in an open area with an air filter device running to circulate the air. I would say outside, but obviously getting them rained on would be a bad thing too.

This. Activated charcoal from home depot/lowe's is pretty cheap. Throw it in a bag with the cards (but not physically touching the cards) and you should be good to go in a day or two.

Shouldn't your baking soda *not* be stuck in a plastic bag? So... either have it covering the cards (I don't think this would damage them, but you might want someone else's confirmation), or stick the cards in a enclosed/more or less airtight location with an open pot/bowl/etc. of baking soda (you might need a relatively large quantity).__________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I bought a deck from a guy who was an insane smoker. You could still smell it after I put it in new sleeves. It is better to just let the cards air out. An odor absorber might help, but I don't see it doing much if it is not physically rubbed on the cards.

I have had a lot of luck with dryer sheets. Take the cards out of sleeves and put them in a deck box/ white box with dryer sheets around them

I have the same thought about dryer sheets as well. I'm trying that method now.
