Is there a good way to de-foil cards? There are a few cheap cards (like the promo Qasali Pridemage, which sells for about $3) that only come in foil. However, I really don't like foil cards. Certainly, I'd never de-foil an expensive card, but I think I'd be happier playing the card with cooler art in non-foil if it's cheap. Does anyone here have any first-hand experience with de-foiling?Edit: of course, I want these cards to remain tournament legal, etc.

What AGO said.Wouldn't be tournament legal (probably, can't say i'm 100% knowledgeable) but if you wanted to get complicated could you erase the art to an Alara nonfoil pridemage, and then print just the art of the fnm pridemage onto it? would also solve the problem of having the FNM watermark and DCI for an expansion set, which is by far the biggest problem if I were in your place. quote: Originally posted by ravidell: get the non foil, non promo kitty.

this exactly. a foil is 3 layers. Ink Foil Sheet Card Stock You literally cannot remove the foil sheet without taking the ink with it. I've done this, and you end up with a blank card. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."<@Anusien> Pretty sure New Zealanders are the sheep shaggers <KIP_NZ> Anusien: I'm a kiwi and I've shagged a sheep <KIP_NZ> we kiwi's like our sheep

acetone. leaves you with a blank foil card.

Older foils...bf the border change...you can use acetone to remove the ink but keeping the foil layer under it on the card stock. You then get the card frame and desired picture fit to size. Flip the image and print it on a certain paper(forget exact name) then using a spray adhesive glue the paper to the cardstock. This has been done to have a lot of altered art foils. I'm sure you could look it up on YouTube.

Quite a shame. I would love to have an old bordered, non-foil Noble Hierarch, Dark Confidant, Sword of Fire and Ice, or Sword of Light and Shadow.

Respectfully, I completely disagree. The attempt to de-foil cheap, only-available in foil cards, for me at least, is very similar to people wanting to do full art alters on cards. I completely agree that it is (in my opinion) foolish to do this with expensive or rarer cards (duals, JTMS, legacy/vintage staples) due to the extreme loss of value and market fluidity. However, full art altering cheap, common cards like lotus petals or brainstorms is a great alternative to customize your deck to your tastes. I would be very surprised if there were no other MTG players out there that would love non-foil versions of altered-art foil-only cards. Doing this to cheap, readily available cards would be simply another means of full-art altering to better fit my tastes. If, however, you say that it is foolish because I didn't realize the foil was unremovable (as be learned from the above posts), then I would argue that was simple ignorance to the card-printing process. As I said, that question has now been answered and it is impossible. Thanks for the replies.

You can wipe away just the ink on a non-foil with some kind of variety/combination of erasers and acetone. I don't really remember much about it __________________ Want Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, and other vampire females oddities (foreign foil crimp miscut misprint sign testprint alters etc)My Saleslist Wants
