Hey, I was thinking about how sometimes people buy from the LGS shop even when there are locals in the store who'd sell for much less just b/c the store takes credit and they don't have cash on them. Got me thinking about those mobile CC readers likehttp://store.apple.com/us/product/H8332LL/B/square-credit-card-reader & http://payments.intuit.com/mobile-credit-card-processing/ Anyone have any experiences with these? Thoughts?

I've seen square and paypal used... pretty sure the only real consideration is whether you think the 3% fee is worth it. I don't think taking business away from the LGS is necessarily a worthy goal, in any case, though...

our store uses Square to run credit cards. Its fairly convenient... I just have a terrible old phone. Soon as I get around to getting something reasonable I'll pick up square or the paypal equivalent. They sell the readers at walmart for like $5. Square used to send the first one out for free, but they stopped doing that. They're fairly sweet either way.

I have seen the square ones everywhere. Dealers have it and PayPal by mobile app. Also seen it at wine and beer festivals, conventions, etc... easy and convient and for someone like me that doesn't carry cash, I have bought some things I shouldnt have due to convience.

Square is a solid company, I was at their HQ a month ago for a party.

Yeah, in general I try and support my LGS, but on some things the gap between ebay prices and SCG prices is too wide. If I can get a goyf on ebay for like $105 and the shop is selling for $150 I don't feel bad about selling someone a goyf in the store for $105. I've told my LGS that on stuff like that they should consider being more accomodating.

I use a square and I am very happy with how it works. The 2.95% fee is very fair for the service you are getting. As long as the transaction takes place before 6pm est, it is deposited in your back account the next day. Weekend transactions are in your bank account Monday morning. You do need internet for it to work, but who does not have that on their phone. I own a store and if you did that in my store you would be banned. I have no problem if friends have a card another needs and it sells, or if I am out of stock of a card, and someone has it, that they sell it. But if you are gonna open up shop in the back of my shop and undercut me, GTFO. Jason

The gap is almost always very close to 33%... it only looks like a larger gap in the case of higher value cards. No real difference between someone buying 1 shockland for $12 when eBay has them for $8 vs. them buying 10 shocklands for $120 when eBay has them for $80 total. The only time I'd feel it's justified to undercut a store and take business from them is if the store itself is shady as hell. Stores need to make money, they probably buylisted the Goyf at something like $80-90 and for them to sell it at $105 does not exactly go well towards being profitable... In any case that's a different discussion, though I think your question re: Square/Paypal has probably been answered

Yeah, not disagreeing with you or Bagbokk. I do have things my local shop doesn't have (they don't have a great selection) and I see using this as a good option in cases like that. My local shop doesn't have cards prior to innistrad for the most part (that's when they started doing MTG). I have unopened boxes of scars, mirrodin besieged, fallen empires, some foreign boxes, and some other stuff. Also, if I'm selling cards on facebook to local people this would help.

Yep, I've sold cards and boosters and such with Square, worked like a charm. As long as you're accounting for the very small percentage that they take, it's well worth it.__________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. PayPal has there own version of this. It is also free through PayPal and the fee is 2.70% instead of the 2.75% of Square

I actually picked up the PayPal Here thing for this reason. Turns out, locally, (1) most people don't buy much to begin with anyway, (2) most people make fairly impulsive decisions, and (3) most people have cash when they make such decisions. I haven't used it even once.
