Is Derevi, Empyrial Tactician actually banned as a commander? I've been reading online that him and Zur were banned but only found this ban list.https://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Resources.aspx?x=magic/rules/100cardsingleton-commander

Believe it's the difference with French commander list. French commander list bans derevi, Edric, and Zur only in 1v1

Okay. Is the French ban list the list that most events will use? I want to build an EDH deck but I've never played the format and don't want to go to an event and be DQ'ed because of an illegal deck.

The french list is used for 1v1. The common one is used for multiplayer.

Commander is the format Wizards made, basically identical to EDH. French banlist is for 1v1, a competitive format with the banlist made by the players and not Wizards (so, any tournaments would be player run as well). Commander has a different list but many overlap, and is generally designed around multiplayer and casual.

The EDH/commander ban list is also player made. The rules committee is not controlled by wizards. As for the OP, any event that uses the 1v1 rules would likely advertise it clearly. Look for mentions of either the 1v1 or the French list. 1v1 is not very common in the states at this point. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles.
