Figured we could use a post to talk about Vintage Masters limited strategy (or maybe just to brag about pulling that foil Black Lotus ).I've had the most luck with aggressive R/B decks, there is just so much good removal/burn. Shadow creatures, 2/2s for 1 and sometimes lots of Goblins. The other deck I like is U/G (or B/G) madness decks. Lots of way to discard into good stuff. Wild Mongrel for example is pretty good. What to take here? https://www.flickr.com/photos/45329373@N03/14398679206/

I would advocate sealed instead since we keep what we open. It would be so painful to pass a dual land, since they are not first-pick worthy.

I haven't drafted yet, but I love the sealed. You get to do some sick things. I just opened 2 Yawgmoth's Will and Tendrils in the same sealed pool. I never thought in a million years I would Tendrils for 14 in a sealed event.Wizards definitely made this environment awesome. I've been destroyed by some busted Goblin decks, I've gotten to abuse Recurring Nightmare, and I killed myself with Necropotence by accidentally triggering it too many times. Loving every second.

Totally, so much more powerful and fun than the standard crap sealeds.

I'm 6-0 in draft....I'm 3-1 in sealed.Draft, to me, is VERY easy. I've drafted twice so far, and will draft again, and probably won't lose considering NOBODY has went UG tempo like me. My last draft I got lucky and opened 2x Force of Will but here were the other contents of my deck... 2x Wild Mongrel 3x Arrogant Wurm 2x Circular Logic 2x Deep Analysis 1x Man o' War 1x Yavimaya Elder 1x Basking Rootwalla 1x Simian Grunts 2x Aether Mutation 2x Repel 1x Fyndhorn Elf 1x Rescind 1x Elephant Guid 1x Aven(forget name 2/3 w Cycling) 1x Krosan Vorean(sp? 3/2 w provoke) 1x U/G CIPT pain from Tempest 1x Strip Mine 7x Forest 7x Island The only hard pick I made all draft was deciding between Arrogant Wurm #3 or Roar of the Wurm #1. I choose Arrogant Wurm. Still don't know if that's right...
The draft before wasn't nearly as broken of a UG tempo/madness deck....but I do remember having 3x Wild Mongrel, 2x Arrogant Wurm, 2x Roar of the Wurm and 3x Man o' War along with the usual Logic/Mutation/Repel/Rescind package of about one each, and subtract the 2x FoW for 3x Counterspell.
Wild Mongrel is common......Arrogant Wurm is common.....Circular Logic is uncommon.....pretty much the entire package of UG madness exists with other broken tempo cards. You won't get me to draft anything else...ESPECIALLY when people insist passing Wild Mongrel 7th pick in pack 1.
EDIT: my sealed pool wasn't UG madness tempo oriented but it was a U/G deck with multiple counterspells and a lot of tempo cards. I only lost to a completely broken Naya Deck in sealed that I played where games 1 and 3 on the play my opponent played turn 1 Mana Crypt AND Mana Vault. Those aren't fun games...almost won one of them too....I only call it NAYA because he played RGW but it was a broken ramp deck with just about every good spell you could have.

I prefer to not play the seal one. Although the value is in it, twice I have to go into the 3rd color (not just splashing) because none of the colors were deep enough for me to make a decent deck. My strongest dual color were black/white and it has a total of only 10 creatures. Update, darn. I just passed my 1st money card, a bazaar of baghdad

Hopefully this set won't devalue all of the T1 staples I've been sitting on from the master's edition sets and old set re-releases.

depends, they seem to be cycling through reprints often enough to keep them semi low. Cards will creep back up and when they start to get expensive I'd start to get worried... see dual lands.

Yes...FOW and LED were solid 100 tix not too long ago, this set now has them @ 20-25 range. Duals got whacked for about 60-70% of their value. Sea's going from upwards of 45 down to 18-20. The only cards that are worth it right now are the power pieces, yet IDK exactly how long they are gonna have this stuff for draft/sealed on Modo. Also depends how many times they bring it back like they do with older draft formats. I wouldn't sell any power if I opened it, I'd wait for a while and the prices will go up whenever this format becomes unavailable. However, I would sell it at some point sooner rather than later. If they DO plan on making Vintage a real thing on Modo I would imagine that you will see this set brought back a LOT. They'll have to to keep Vintage running.

White just seems so bad, anyone have any luck with white?Battle Screech and Swords to Plow are the only things that really have me wanting to go white (unless I open like Parallax Wave). Still having a lot of luck with decks like the one Daner posted or aggressive decks. I've opened around 20 packs and so far 19 junk rares and that one Recall. Guy last night played a Foil Emerald against me. Imagine if this set was redeemable

Did three drafts so far. My initial impression is that UG is great on the back of 2x or 3x Counterspells. The tempo is so good and to back it up with a hard counter for two mana is amazing. That said, the one draft I actually won was RG Fires.

I didn't open a foil black lotus but I did open a foil mox pearl. I traded it for a mox jet and a mox emerald. As for the draft, I did ok but it is very strange because I won two out of my three matches and two of them are due to my opponent timing out and the 3rd one, he almost timed out

Best thing I've opened is Tundra, Matt. I would be happy with Timetwister.Played another draft tonight. My deck was a black/white aggro deck. Battle Screech was excellent and as usual Benevolent Bodyguard straight up wins games with an extra 3-4 unblockable damage. Lost against Goblin Trenches games one and three-- game two was Battle Screech heaven. I am trying to mete out my winnings to prolong the draft. Sucks it's 4 tickets instead of 2.

I opened a sol ring, which would have been awesome but for the fact that they released the commander decks online.Went 2-1, losing to a goblins deck that got the god draw three games in a row.

This is what keeps me away from drafting VM, the whole "premium" thing. $7 packs and 4 tix to draft is rather steep. Of course, I have no interest in a digital collection so I may be in the minority.

Yeah its expensive. I set aside $200 to draft and if I hadn't opened that Recall (which I sold for 100 tix), I'd be done by now. And yeah those Goblins decks can be insane. Warchief seems like one of the key cards there. Also I've lost twice now to that Black 1B vote card, where you lose 4 life. So look out for that.

I played a few sealed over the weekend, don't think I will play sealed again unless I have a bunch of packs to open.Ended up going 2-2 thrice, 3-1 once and 1-3 once. The best deck was a GBr. Most pools have been crap. Best thing I opened, Bayou. Got 4 packs left, so will draft that. Think after that I will be buying some stuff for an eternal deck/collection. Might draft again later.

Goblins are completely busted in this format. Got hit for 25 in two turns from an empty battlefield. Ridiculous.

Yup, though it looks like a somewhat hard deck to pull off. It's an okay format, gets boring fast and costs too much. I got a few duals and money rares, so I'll just let them sit until they get expensive now.

This format is getting boring quickly. It's too aggro-oriented for me.I also remember now why I stopped playing MTGO; the shuffler hoses me at least one game in every match. No joke. __________________ There is a difference between you and me. We both looked into the abyss. But when it looked back at us...you blinked.
