Topic: Buy a box ?

I was going to buy a box in standard . From a value perspective ( getting back into game and want to get a trade binder going ) what box would you guys rec? I understand generally this isn't the best way to get cards but it's also going to be used to draft with friends . Thanks!

Umm I would wager the new set dragons. It's got a decent number of good mythics as well as decent rares people seem to still be looking for. Also. Collected Company.

If you can wait a month preorder Magic Origins right away to guarantee a buy-a-box promo. Card values will be inflated for a week or so after the release so it'll be a good time to trade away new cards for established staples.

I was looking at khans but it seems the fetches are the only thing worth anything, not even mythics have value , unless I missed something ?

If you're into fetches but don't like the rest of the set they are in then Fate reforged so that might be your best bet. Most boxes have at least 1 sometimes 2 fetches in the land slot of each booster pack but rares/mythics are better than khans and you might even pull an ugin.

From a long-term value proposition I think Khans is where you want to be because of the fetches.Shorter term Dragons is going to give you better value at the moment and will be in standard six months after Khans and Fate rotate out. Fate is a very poor compromise between the two. Even with your extra $10-20 in value from bonus fetches the cards will probably be worth less than a box of Dragons or Khans. http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mm/metamorphosis quote:

Origins seems like a turbocharged core set. May be worth it.Dragons has terrible EV but it has a few gems. The best set to buy a box of now is Khans.
